    Great system and ideas - very helpful for my own coming system. There is one contingency I thought of which to my understanding is not covered: In case of grid failure (or just a fuse burnout on that part of the circuit) the celenoid valve will be on (as there is no power and it is a "normal open" type) and so tap water will flow into the barrels irrespective of their water level. This will further flow out of the system through the overflow mechanism thus just wasting all that water. This can potentially be costly if the power is out for a longer period. Have you thought of this scenario and how to solve for it?

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup Месяц назад

      Yes, you can put a second solenoid upstream, of the hose water coming from the house, connected to main power. It would switch off when the main power goes out. Also look into motorized quarter turn valves. Some of these will return to closed position on a power outage, and you could accomplish the same thing with one valve.

That engine is far better then the standard one and has more blowing power. Check into it.

    One clean dirt off. Two apply something that loosens oxidation, then use a soft brush and use a pressure washer, and do a good rinse., romse and romse again. when dry, you will be amazed at the color and shine. Exceptional video. Thank you. Our halogen puck lights are hard wired throughout the kitchen, into mouldings, ceiling, cabinets, etc. Is there any way to use the old AC wite to attach this to DC LEDs without us removing all the buried AC wires throughout the kitchen?

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup 5 месяцев назад

      Thank you. Good question. Obviously make sure it is totally disconnected from the AC source, but it should work. DC is also a 2-wire system. I’d consult with an electrician. They may have a very simple way to do it.

    • @aelbj
      @aelbj 5 месяцев назад

      @@dontscrewitup Wow - fast reply. I will certainly consult with an electrician on this. I assume that although it is also a 2 wire system and the gauge is different, hopefully this won't affect any electrical resistance as it would be a lower power going to the LED pucks. ON another note - love seeing the percussion instruments in your cabinet. There's nothing like a good old cabasa to keep the rythmn moving.

    • @dontscrewitup

    Good design, but I have a question: When the barrows get empty, the float switch triggers the solenoid which turns on the tap water to fill the barrows. What if it starts raining while the tap is on? This means both the tap and rain are filling up the barrows at the same time, doesn't it? Depending on how fast the tap is running, only a fraction of the barrows will be filled with rain water in this test case, won't it?

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, that is correct. It will fill with both rain water and hose water at the same time. However, the rainwater is massively more volume than the hose water, so it will fill largely with rain water as soon as it starts raining.

    Hello. Have you had issues with the float switch in barrel B shutting off the pump due to low water level, even when barrel A still has water? Ideally you’d want both barrels to be at the same level all the time. But depending on how much rain you get during the filling process, this isn’t always the case. I’m doing the same thing and I foresee this being a problem. Any advice?

    • @dontscrewitup
      @dontscrewitup 6 месяцев назад

      Good question. The Y-connection hoses at the bottom drains both barrels at the same time, so the water levels equalize as the pump is running. The way I have this set up, when filling, the first barrel fills completely then spills over and fills the second one. If you assume they both fill to the top, then the level drops equally until both are almost empty, then the float switch trips and starts the filling process.

    This is a neat little drone and quirky. Kindve a "retro" drone at this point but I like that. Somethung nobody is mentioning is this drone within the same model number uses 2 different batteries. I just brought one off Amazon (new but open box) and then went ahead and ordered extra batteries for it. Well the replacement batteries were too thick. Thats because they are 2S. It was the spec thats in the manual 7.4v 1200mah. What came with the drone? 3- 1S 3.7v 1000mah batteries came with the drone. It looks like the opening in the side of the drone originally allowed 2S batteries to be used and the design was modified with an insert or modified battery tray to be smaller for the 1S batteries. Anyhow, I bought this (mainly over the HS110G) partly because it was listed as a 2S drone whereas the HS110 runs 1S. Im pretty sure the HS110 is basically the same 1S batteries I recieved with this drone. I would like to return it to 2S 7.4v especially now that I got batteries ready to go in that size. But surprisely nobody has come across this issue. Batteries are same length, width, and pin location. So if that battery trey was swapped out or modified it may work provided the electronics are the same rating as before to handle 7.4v

Inside of firebox gets ash colored. Otherwise operating like new. Easy to clean, and very clean burning. Chimney is still like new. No creosote build up at all. We burn dry, seasoned hardwood. I out a small circulating fan behind it (4 inch pancake fan) on a variable speed controlled outlet. It really circulates the warm air on coldest days.

But it has a pretty small firebox and is more of an “accent” or supplemental heat source than a primary heat source; in my opinion.

    Hi Tom, thanks for your comprehensive review of the Stuv 30 C. It was very informative. I've just had one installed in our new house build in Australia and can't wait to see it in action... and now feel much better prepared to operate it, as recommended. Quick question, if you don't mind? I've been away traveling during the instal (still not home) and haven't had a chance to look in the box for what comes with the fireplace. Does the firescreen that you showed come as a standard inclusion or did you have to purchase it separately? If the latter, do you mind letting me know where, please? I can't find any reference to the fire screen anywhere online. Thanks, Tom.
