    The distinction of Dry and Water fasting is necessary in these conversations especially in the context to the age sensitive aspect of muscle retention. Dry fasting is more potent in a shorter timeframe than water fasting and has an immensely diminished impact on muscle mass relative to water fasting which also takes longer.
    Autophagy and stem cell proliferation from extensive dry fasts are still the biggest part of my protocol doing 7 days 1-2 times a year. I'll be adding Dave Pascoe's plasmapheresis protocol later this month and seeing if I can afford a single HBOT session with the money I make from donating plasma to go even further.

    As always it comes down to your goals. I like 72hr+ fasts for autophagy but OMAD is great for managing calories. I noticed a pattern of binge eating after prolonged periods of restriction which ultimately undid my hard work, so I had to accept that it wasn't a good long term strategy for me as my weight was going up not down. I still love the benefits of fasting but I'm now back on carbs which makes fasting so much harder. I will do a few days Keto before the occassional short fast and then I go back to low fat, high protein eating, but it's not a lifestyle. My goal is fat loss and autophagy. Even OMAD is a challenge if you want milk in your morning brew because it triggers hunger. I'm guessing you drink black coffee or green tea until meal time Vince? If not you must have a lot of willpower.

      Hi Conniie, it's very good that you do your own thing, we are not all the same, what is good for Peter Attia may well not be good for you or me. We have to listen to our bodies. Yes, water, black coffee and green tea.

      @@MyLongevityExperiment your self discipline is admirable. I managed that routine for nine months but it's porridge and a brew ATM. As you say we're all individuals. That said, I'm still pro fasting.

      One really big meal?

    • @48peon
      @48peon 25 дней назад

      @@MyLongevityExperiment when I first started, I really did one really really really BIG meal, and would only got the AYCE spots, 66oz of lamb or steak at hotpot places. But, that actually made me feel really sick afterwards. So, stopped doing that. I now just eat until I'm not hungry, but I try to like a boat load of steamed veggies that does well with my body, and pour a good amount of real quality EVOO, and some salt and pepper, some crushed garlic, and a 6-8oz 100% grass fed ribeye (when I feel rich), otherwise, I rotate the protein with 100%grass fed ground beef patties,2 patties, or 2x 4oz pieces or 1x 6oz of frozen wild caught salmon. And polish off my dinner with a handful of black berries or raspberries or blueberries or some of the normal not so sweet organic strawberry. Oh, forgot, I add lots of nuts to my diet during most of my omad. Hawaiian nuts, walnut are my to go to. Hawaiian nuts when I'm feeling rich, walnuts when I feel I'm trying to save some money. Oh, and sardines with EVOO or VOO on the steam veggies surprisingly tastes good. Lastly, and honestly, if you don't eat that often, any thing taste good. I love grass fed butter too

      @@MyLongevityExperiment and after a long fast, I've learned to take it easy to get back to food. Start with some bone broth. Wait a little, and maybe add an egg a hour later. Wait a hour or two later, then have a small meal to round up my long fast.
