With knives I find many folks start cheap, they buy a Mora, Hultafors, Cold Steel, Terava, Condor or that lovely Green River knife etc and enjoy the usage of a quality tool in the hand...then they buy something expensive, something in a fancy steel that looks killer only to find themselves using it "carefully" and enjoying the experience of knife usage less. Then after a while they realize that the "knife as a tool" philosophy is best served by those good cheap beater knives listed above so they buy the cheapy again and enjoy the tool in a carefree manner like in times gone by. That has been my experience of knife ownership and I noticed a trend among others out there. Beaters are the real keepers in my opinion. Nice channel mate...just found you.
Agreed! as with anything expensive, you get far more cautious and paranoid about beauting up your shiny new car or wahtever it is, its nice to haeva variety, but my main workhorses are the green river and kansbol.
a delight to see some of the thin bladed knives that work so well in the field and kitchen. Heavy thick blades have their place around the wood pile, but they're less than perfect for exact cuts and slices. Great selection!
This is the first review of yours that I have watched. I think it's great that you are eloquent without resorting to swear words or slang. High class of you. I also love Mora knives and have 3 of them, including the Kansbol. I like Esse and have 2 Esse 4 blades. My collection includes a couple of dozen fixed blade knives of varied makes. I will look for more of your videos.
Nice video. I like knives. After watching the review of Exodus Knife&Tool AdventureCraft Knife, I showed the video to my wife & she liked the knife too. I bought her one for her birthday/ Christmas. She loves using it but wants to make a leather sheath for it. I'm glad I watch your videos.
All Dope blades & LT’s are a go to but I think my favorite has to be the Snake Eater. U found a way to hybridize all those models into one. Good size scallops & nice stock. Like the blade shape on Proto 1 a bit better....More like the Green River. See ya on Ep. 2.👊🏼
Nice knives. I like the protype you showed here, I like the blade shape and the "Kansbol-grind". I also love the GNS. I got mine from back when they where still Blind Horse Knives (BHK) and introduced it as their monthly special in july 2013. Got a saber grind back then in O1, later got a scandi version from LT Wright in A2. Love them both. If memory serves the GNS was first made for "Self Reliance Illustrated" (SRI) magazine as "their knife" earlier that year (2013), and then later sold by BHK as the standard version without the SRI logo/stamp.
after I owned all 6 style of grinds now I will always prefer the Full Flat grind , best slicer shaver cutter , might take longer working with wood but result is same sometimes even better
Great Review James,,,, A much welcomed break from politics,,,,, I must Say,,, I Agree with You and other people commenting,,, I like the first(Original) Snake Eater prototype. Yes, we out here haven’t handled either. But ,, by looks and watching You. I vote for Prototype #1,,,!!!!! God Bless,,, Joshua
I’m twelve and my drink of choice is jack Daniels 😜. Love LT I have ther scandi in O1 tool steel and their large Notth American hunter in AEB-L both knives are great.
I’m a big fan of the Green River 4215 too, also got the Mora Kansbol and Garberg, awesome knives! I just got my first custom knife, a mini Hudson bay style pattern knife, 5” blade of 1/8” 80crv2 steel, full flat grind. You should try the Benchmade Puukko 200, one of my favorite knife, pretty sure you would love it too!
I can’t find it, but seems I remember somewhere you were saying you’re not so fond of the condor bushlore, I’m not either, can’t keep that steel sharp, I just ordered a kansobol though, I know I can’t go wrong with a mora💯
I Love the Finger guard feature on your Snake Eater II. That was my most worried part from your first prototype.. For the Mora Knives a Full Tang is Essential.
Your Snake Eater appears to combine the best aspects in three of my favorites: Kansbol, Jessmuk and GNS. To me, too, fixed blades around 5"-6" seem to be best for EDC. So my GNS, Genesis and Garberg get worn and used the most in my rotation*. Your video way back on the Kansbol convinced me to get one and it serves as backup in my Bug Out (Hidden Woodsman) Haversack. Enjoyed the video, James. Just added a very budget friendly *Old Hickory Hunting knife to my rotation. Same shape as their famous butcher knife. 1095, 5" and with a very decent leather sheath. Good tight fit. $20 #SMKW
Hey so i am just finishing up my tortilla`s the ones you show how to do. I copied your stuff and very good. But i didn't get the big bubbles like yours.... anyway your a pretty cool dude, i was in AF so been down in your area. Much love from the PNW!
I'm a blade junkie, so I have a lot of knives and it's kind of hard to choose a favorite. I do love the Mora Kansbol & Garberg: they're sharp, easy to handle & maintain, light weight, inexpensive and have the perfect grip. But I also love my Tops Knives Blue Otter, Tex Creek, Kukuri, Mini Scandi, & Delta 3 knives; my Cold Steel & Kabar knives. The Tops BOB knife is great but on the heavier side, same with the Esee 5; they need a little more TLC as well and are more expensive. But who am I kidding, I love them all, LOL. I don't have any LT Wright or Green River knives so don't have an opinion on those. I am liking the design of your Snake Eater Prototype 2 knife; I may have to add that to my collection. When & how will that be available for purchase?
i recamend the companion hd mora for starting out 20 bucks and 3 1/4 tang you wont break it and the hd is thicker steel and higgher grade of steel it's the best for a beginner or any body for that matter
I have a huge knife collection fixed folders etc all top quality steels companies and I’d trade ya for that 2nd snake eater blade or the flat ground genesis I’d send 1st and give u a list of knives to choose from depending on if i want a folder or fixed blade 👍🏻. I think 4v olds a better edge than 3v but is a more brittle though than 3v which still isn’t very brittle at all.
Cool! love it! I know ya do not like thick blades but check out SURVIVE! knives. Thickness depends on task and location but they are great knives regardless
I just found out the my mora companion is magnetic 🧲 at the end of the blade. I’ve never heard anyone mention that in any review. No way it’s picking up my nail clippers. I’m very new to knives and bush crafting so maybe all knives are magnetic 🤣
I've never heard of petrified pine. Petrified means it's turned to stone...I've tried to look it up but all I can find is pine turned to stone... did you make that up?
Yeah man I love the kansbol. I wish I had known this much much earlier. I could've saved so much money that I spended on fixed blades.... Out of my fixed blade collection (which are 5 or 6 knifes excluding the kansbol) I still would've bought maybe just one of them. And my favorite review that you did might be your hidden woodman haversack review, because I watched it several times before I chose to order a haversack for myself. BTW you might want to check out the Helikon-Tex Haversack. Or at least watvh the review of it made by the prepared wanderer. I personally like it. The only thing that bugs me is the buckle system. Annoying as heck. Why couldn't they just use the same buckle type like they use on the carrying strap? Other than that, my 2nd favorite review is of course the kansbol review 😁
I like your channel. The music especially. The editing and cinematic value is very good too. With that said... I think YOUR statement on sharpened pry bars and the BK2 is willfully ignorant. I understand intent. And I understand preferences. But when they come from a standpoint of ignorance...Well, I'll call it out. So the only indicators of how well a knife cuts is sharpness. And the edge angle it's at, that's it. The grind at which it is at wether a saber, scandi, flat or convex is really irrelevant. Or stock thickness. The secondary bevel behind the apex only indicates how much material will be pushed out of the way. That's why YOU bushcrafters love scandi grinds. But in reality is actually a horrible knife in soft material. And the fact after you sharpen it a lot they tend to blunt more readily. Due to the apex becoming thicker. It happens to all knives some to a lesser degree than others. Getting back to the sharpened pry bar statement. While I too think the Bk2 is a little excessive for a 5 inch blade. The weight is not a bad thing. But the Esee 5 and Bk2 with a proper apex with cutting in mind will be a good cutter in more than one medium. And!...When you do have to regrind it. You have more material to work with. And I'll be honest. I don't like the Esee 5 or Bk2 either. But I do like sharpened prybars. Case in point...ruclips.net/video/r4N2P6d66is/видео.html Here's probably the smartest guy that's ever talked about knives. If you can get past the fact he's a Canadian. He's a wonderful resource. I tell people that want to talk about knives. Less Ray Mears and Mors Kochanski...More Cliff Stamp. Try slicing and chopping Ice with your Woodlore. ruclips.net/video/f74FQCSzQs4/видео.html Or skinning out the side wall of a tire. ruclips.net/video/RWnL6s8Rbl8/видео.html Here's a retired SAR guy that used sharpened prybars for saving lives. ruclips.net/video/DhhijBQn0CI/видео.html
at the end of the day, it all comes down to preference, im not saying that thick knives are useless, im sure they have their plae, theyyre jsut no for me or the best tool for things i like to do.
After a point you sort of come to similar conclusions with knives. I use the Mora 2000 instead of the Kansbol, my Green River knife has a spear point blade but it's still a GR knife and I got a flat grind Enzo Trapper instead of the LT Wright. Was gifted a beautiful German made Boker and I never use it either!

I modded my Garber By putting a Kevlar mycarda wrap on the handle for comfort and maximum grip. Also gave it a slicey convex.. love it

thank you for watching!
I'm waiting to see the final version of the Snake Eater before choosing a favorite.
I like the first prototype of Snake Eater more than I like the second.
wait til you see the final design

And if would be "normal" price, how can i get it in Slovenia?

I'm up the road in Roswell. Love your desert bushcraft vids. Keep up the good work.
Great stuff James! Thanks! Love that snake eater
Glad you enjoyed it
Like your first design. Like the handle to blade transition just the size and look. I would have one
Thank you very much!
Great video everyone loves a fixed blade video 👍
You got that right!
Mora Garberg my favorite
The gen 2 snake eater is pretty cool, the junkyard fox logo is pretty sick on that knife.

i completely agree
That La Rocca Kumppani is nice! I really like that one.
Nice knives. I really like the LT knives. I only have 1 for now the Genesis in scandi.
Still love the prototype model :) You should have both available to purchase that way for the indecisive knife lover as myself can just buy both :)
we may just have to do that

I would choose the snake eater. Amazing
You should do a shelter video in the desert...How you build shelters, tarp or not etc.
A video like that is planned soon

I’m trading for a LT Wright GP knife, really looking forward to carrying it.
