I do love a good beer batter for fish and chips but I wanted to bring something alcohol-free to the table for those who want to make a great batter without the use of beer or vodka. Hope you all enjoy this one and Happy cooking!!

What?? No mushy peas?? 😅 Thanks for an alcohol-free version. I'm 14 years sober and won't use any alcohol in cooking. I know. They tell us the alcohol cooks away, but it's the flavor that could make me do something stupid. I have cod right now, along with everything else I need to accomplish this. Thanks! 👍

Completely agree! Beer batter is like what you'd get if you went somewhere fancy. Your classic Cod and Chips from the chippy would just be a plain batter.
Sonny I think You and Me were born of the same cloth...I make the a lot of the same food as you and love to do these recipes for my family. I've said this before but you are by far my favorite Chef/cook on the interwebs of life!

Hello from UK. Love your channel. best fish and chips in UK are fried in beef dripping. Salt, malt vinegar and ketchup thats it. Batter is just self raising and ice cold water and use straight away. Haddock i agree. Nice thick piece is hard to come by, but is worth seeking out. Sprinkle the batter bits (scraps) left in the pan all over the chips.
In the UK you often get Pollock in recent years but Cod is making a comeback. In West coast Canada they often use Halibut which is great for fish and chips. If you get to the right spots in Scotland you can pretty much choose whatever fresh fish you want off the menu

Those fish and chips are awesome man, and as a person who has been to the U.K. multiple times I can attest to what you're saying sonny about the English fish and chips wrapped in newspaper there is no other like it.
Those chips look incredible, that little snap had me heading for the potatoes. I'm English and either Cod or Haddock will do, but I personally prefer Haddock, it's more flavoursome if less 'meaty'. Edit: In my childhood we used to get Rock Salmon more, which is just a remarketing of Dogfish, ie Shark. You don't see it in as many chippies these days though.
I’m in the UK, I go for haddock at the chippy but if I’m doing it at home, some fresh pollock (SUPER abundant and easy to catch yourself) really similar to cod. Yum!
This is wonderful! I’ll have to make this one next. I followed your scallops with garlic scape pesto and cauliflower puree recipe the other day and it was delish! No wonder you licked the plate. 😍
I totally don’t mind long-version recipes but I do prefer the quicker methods. Just because life is so busy right now. Can’t wait to try this dish. I grew up with a Fish & Chip shop at the bottom of our street. We always bought halibut. The malt vinegar is perfect!
