I've decided to try and complete the second nickel coin roll hunting series books to see how many bank boxes it takes to fill the entire Dansco Album for Nickels dated 1938-1998. There are 136 slots to fill in Series 2 Books and the mission is to BEAT the 167 boxes it took for Series 1.
This is part 132 of the series (Boxes127-128 for Series 2) and I do plan on updating it from each nickel box I hunt from this point forward until the nickel coin collection is completed!
We found a Liberty Head V Nickel, a Buffalo nickel and soem silver nickels to get the Trifecta, BUT can we find that elusive 1950 D Nickel?

FYI - The Dansco Album does not have spots for some coins but we'll be hunting these boxes of nickels for Silver Nickels, Buffalo Nickels, Proof coins, Old Jefferson Nickels (namely semi-key and key date nickels), Liberty V Nickels and 2009's for their low mintage.
Let's keep our fingers crossed and our eyes open for some valuable Nickels!

I haven't done any nickel hunts lately, but I've almost completed my nickel type set. I've got a type 1 and type 2 shield nickel, a type 2 V nickel, a type 1 and 2 buffalo nickel, a prewar Jefferson nickel, a war nickel, a postwar Jefferson, all four Lewis and Clark nickels, and a modern forward facing nickel

When I started going thru my late uncle’s collection book I was super excited to find four SWEET BU 1950D’s because I saw they were low mintage. But then I checked eBay and saw that uncirculated 50D’s were pretty thick on the ground and cheap. I guess collectors must have hoarded them right away, so not many made it into circulation.

Fun time watching. If I had never tasted candy as a boy I’d have a pretty nice collection. I’m 68 and we used to see Indian Head pennies, bison nickels😂, and Mercury dimes. My father-in-law would instruct his daughters before coming home from college for the holidays to pick up a bag of silver dollars from their local bank. He would sort through them to find the treasures among them. I keep them in my safety deposit box now, so I suppose I do have a coin collection. My father collected stamps as a child in NYC. He had many mentors who nurtured his genius and they helped him build a remarkable collection. He gave them to a nephew who sold them immediately. Ugh.

Hey Rob...I commented last week about finding 2 V nics recently...congrats of yours. This week's 2 box hunt yielded...2 43-p, 1 45-p...need the 45-d for my book, 78-s proof, 50-p...need the D, several other usual suspects and a 2021-p with a die crack. Truly enjoy your hunts!👍

I just got done hunting my first nickel box yesterday. I found 7 from the 50s, 10 from the 40s including a 1943 P war nickel, a 1939, 2017 gold plated nickel, a 2009 nickel, and last but not least a 1907 V nickel. Sadly I didn’t get any buffaloes but all and all not bad for one box I think. Thanks for getting me into this with your videos. I’m having fun. I still don’t know how to tell if a coin is a proof or NFIC. but I’ll figure it out sometime. See ya.
Killa nickel box hunt! That's the cool thing about nickel hunts: You can expect to see examples from all over Jefferson nickel history and then some! How many early 40's and 30's did you get in those boxes? Of course you also scored a buffalo and V nickel in your hunt! Know you're still looking for the 50-D, but I have an inkling that it's coming up in the next 10 boxes. Keep on living the dream!

Just bought a 2 rolls of nickels in Canada. Both customer wrapped. 6 silver US nickels from 1943 P. In one roll Other roll all 2022 Canadian.
I found a 1936 buffalo nickel, too, in my last box. Almost black from toning, but still a solid vf. First one for me this year. Of course, I don't go through nearly as many boxes as you do!
I found both a 1926 and a 1936 wheat pennies a 1957D nickel in the coin star today.

That 1950D is a key date at 2,630,030. PCGS says that it is one of the most saved coins. The estimated survival rate with full steps is less than 765000. The coin is valuable in G4 it's a good value @$3
always exciting.. never know what youll find box hunting... too bad the half dollar boxes cant produce silver hey haha.. cant find em if ya aint searching :)
