Hi everyone and Welcome to Promethean Sewing Machines, where I am unashamedly rebelliously creative when it comes to taking old forgotten sewing machines and bringing them back to life in a beautiful way.
Meet my new project:
Putting the Franklin back together. Oh the trials and tribulations... but it ended up fine. I had to reuse the old motor because of shaft length issues, as you do. And I also had to use a grinder a hammer and a vise to make it work. Then finding a way to make the bobbin winder work and showing off my rubber welding skills. So much fun!
Hope you like it!
Marie

It's still a very beautiful machine
Thank you Marie! Quite a transformation. Thank you for taking her on!
You are so welcome! Enjoy! 😊
A girl with an attitude! LOL! Great job Marie, she sure gave you a time. Thank you for bringing us along for the ride! 👍💖
Thanks for your endurance!! She is beautiful!!
Amazing job, the ole gal is still kicking!
Though you ran into several hurdles along the way, it turned out to be a nice machine! Your dedication & attention to detail is wonderful.
looks great
Just rewatched this video. I had forgotten all the work you did to get that gal going. And what's up with the one decal???? She is gorgeous no matter. Thanks for showing all the ups and downs.
Oh Marie - what a great rescue mission this turned out to be. Cosmetically she improved incredibly - and so well protected for decades to come too. Best of all, she sews again - and really well too. Not many would have taken that on but it was so, so worth it. I'm sure her family is thrilled that her legacy gets to live on as so much more than a decorative paperweight. These videos of the work you've done on her become part of her 'provenance' now too - isn't that a lovely thought?. (Total aside here, I chuckled when you mentioned your box'o'bits - it reminded me of Bob's incredible 'collection'o'hardware'!) :-)
Thanks megan, did you noticed I mentioned you with the thread cutter? Haha I like the idea of provenance I've never thought of that before. Thank you so much 😊
@@prometheansewingmachines Yes I did notice - and thought you got the thread cutter looking pretty good too. I'm working on an old 1886 Singer 12K at the moment and it has no thread cutter. They have a square presser bar so these cutters won't fit on it. So to cut the threads when I check how it is sewing I firmly 'swipe' them across the slot in the screw that holds the presser foot on instead - and when I do that I always think of you and Bob! :-)
I wish I was able to do that. But my hands don't cooperate anymore
I don't know how you can wear rubber gloves to put together. A whole machit makes my hand sweat. I did mechanics for almost 40 years.
I could never wear rubber gloves then.
And I still can't.
I'm afraid for me it's a necessity, cuz I have to keep my hands clean for my sewing work. Even a little grease under my fingernails can mess up some satin. But I do change my gloves pretty often because they rip and my hands do sweat and need to air out.
