No, it does not make it cast longer. But it does make smoother retrieve and prevents wear. I am just fixing up where the manufactures have cut cost on …
hello. have you replaced the oem abu spool bearings with boca bearings? if so was the cast distance further and smoother? I ask because I have a morrum m5600c and would like to replace the stock/oem spool bearing with some boca abec7 if I can gain some distance and be smoother.
Hi I have replaced spool bearings of M3600C with ceramic hybrid bearings running dry. I would say the casting distance has improved but never measured as I am using it for light bottom jigging. One thing for sure was that the reel is a lot smoother.
thanks bud. what were the steps and how difficult of a job was it to remove the aluminum casing of the morrum reel due to no thumb screws like the 5500 c3 series?
Big Ed Not sure what reel you have. My Morrim m3600c has thumb screws to open up the side plate to get access to the spool. In fact all my Abu reels have them. Once removed the spool, the bearings are held by spring wire clips. Remove the spring and the bearing come off easily. Abu reels are the easiest reel to get to their parts.
sorry I misspoke, yes my morrum m5600c has thumb screws with a cross slot cut in the screw for a flathead screwdriver. guess I was thinking of the other side of the reel as that's how I took off that side and oiled the bearings of my 5500 c3's. I didn't open up the thumbscrew side of those reels so I wasn't sure exactly what would happen if opening from thumbscrew, handle, side as that's the only way to open up the morrum I guess.
Now got it. The easiest (and only) way to get to the spool bearings is to open up from thumb screw side. The whole gear part will come off like C3 and spool can be taken out. The bearings are attached to the spool so they are easy to oil.
If using on saltwater then big mistake, I changed back to bushing, just oiled them. Still smooth retrieves.
Yes if you use cheap chrome steel bearing. You have to use stainless steel bearings.
Sweet
Updating this does what to your reel ? Does it make it cast longer ?

Oh okay thank you
