  • Roger Fisher Founder of the legendary Rock Band (Heart) 2013 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame talks with Eric Salas from Rock Thiz Magazine about his history in Rock! Go to www.RogerFisher.com for updates. As founding guitarist of the rock group Heart, these adventurous energies made themselves globally known through the sales of more than 23 million albums. Having left that group in 1979, a musical rebirth began that took ten years to reach fruition. The first album to emerge from those years of work in his recording studio was "Standing, Looking Up," an instrumental effort that portrays earthly birth and the subsequent reaching out to other worlds and wonders.

Roger Fisher is one of the most creative guitarist in rock music. Heart was never as good after he was gone.

Agreed 💯😎 The original lineup is still the best, by far. Howard, Roger, all of them made it creative and kick ass. And what eIse can you say about the Wilson sisters ? Ann has a set of pipes you never get tired of hearing and Nancy's guitar playing is stellar. I wish they could have stayed together, imagine what they could have done together, Crazy On You, Magic Man, Barracuda, Dreamboat Annie was fantastic. They would have done more & better things.

such a dear, dear man. so humbled listening to this "Icon" of Rock Music, his contribution, his supreme experience, his endearing spirit and soul. love this guy. what a selfless, sweet person. and the question about, 'what would he change".... (and we all know what the interviewer was leaning toward...) and you look at Roger, as he begins to answer that, thinking he's going to bring that up, and instead, you get a sweet smile, and he essentially says, "wouldn't change a thing"

It's obvious that the man was getting choked up when talking about learning through pain. My intuition tells me that he's talking about losing Nancy Wilson AND leaving Heart. That must have been extremely painful for such a sensitive spirit. His guitar musicianship has always touched me as the other greats like Beck, Page, Santana... have.

What a Great Guy. Good to see him vulnerable about his pain & learning lessons. It is painful to hurt the ones that we love. And, it’s even more painful to have that person who we love (who we hurt); hurt us back in the same way. It’s unfortunate that he snapped, was physically hurtful & was then voted out of the band. That must have been the most painful experience: being casted out of his own band. Yet, he said it was a relief at the same time (a relief to no longer be touring with Nancy who was sleeping with the drummer-that sounds excruciating).

Roger really gets choked up about the break up. I didn't expect him to be so emotional about it after all these years. And Nancy is still holding a big grudge or was. Forgive Roger, Nancy, he was young. Geez! Hopefully the reunion at RRHOF help mend some of those feelings. I just can't believe Nancy would still hold such hard feelings over their relationship after so much time has passed.

Roger Fisher is very wise and likable Guy! I always liked his playing and guitar sound! He’s right about Rock music! It needs new elements or its Dead. In the past, some group would show up with a new sound or angle and it would continue in popularity! Now it’s in trouble, because it’s just repeating the same old cliches over and over. And it’s all been done. But someone or something will show up again to change the game!

Roger is one of the main reasons that Heart became so successful (along with Ann’s voice, etc.). Their sound deteriorated after he left and the Wilson sisters fired the bassist & drummer. They only had a few more hits. Then their record company cancelled their recording contract. They should have not let the original members go. Biggest lesson here is not to get romantically involved with other band members.

Imagine the ideas Roger mentioned combined with the Wilson sisters great talents and songwriting. Heart would be cutting edge, instead of retreading the same old stuff they've been doing. If Ann and Nancy were involved with Roger's solo CD- "Evolution" it would've been maybe the best Heart CD since Dog and Butterfly or Bebe Le Strange. The stuff Rog is doing is fantastic and one listen to Evolution and you can hear what Heart misses so much these days.

    • @gastonflatulenza1276

Heart is still great because Ann and Nancy are still great. Roger is great also, and probably a better musician today than he was back in his Heart days. All that great stuff he came up with at such a young age is just incredible! Each one of us is so imperfect, and as Roger has said, learning from our mistakes is part of our own spiritual journey. Hell, Ann and Nancy have had their own issues between themselves involving the tour bus (physical) incident with Ann's husband and Nancy's twin teenage boys. And Ann and Nancy love each other (sisters)! So it's hard for everyone. The sad thing is Roger is no longer in Heart. I wish he could have left Heart and continued with the same critical and popular acclaim--he certainly is deserving of it. There is lots of great music inside Roger that we are waiting for him to share with us.

I know that Heart has been written off by some as being a Zep rip-off. Sure you can hear some Zep influence in some of the early stuff, some of it quite obvious. But if you listen to the songs collectively, you can hear that Heart really did have it's own sound. Your influences are going to come thru, no matter what, but you can still achieve your own sound if you're sny good. Heart did. Zep did. Rush did, as well. Unfortunately, those days are gone. Everything's pre-fab now, pathetic...
