Thank you LGR. This game was from my childhood and one of those that I had the most fun playing. I forgot about it for years and never heard anyone mention it since. And here you are, with an entire video on it! Great work, your channel is awesome and I'm glad that I subscribed.
@@slitor Maybe today. In 1990 you could get Biggie fries, King Sized fries or Supersized fries for $1. Even if you got 5 of those a day at about 500 calories with tap water, you would only be out about $35 plus tax...
You can cheat in Jones by ripping off the pawnshop when inflation is high. The game is a no-brainer after you quickly discover the best route to success. If however you can get others to play it with the same skill, the race can get interesting as long as you make prohibitive rules on the pawnshop glitch.
There's actually something of a "spiritual successor" to this game in Life Quest 1 & 2 by Big Fish Games for Android and PC. It's certainly a lot more goal oriented
I had and played it with EGA graphics and PC speaker sound with my sisters. Blew my mind seeing it decades later with the full VGA graphics/colors, soundblaster audio, and voice acting.
Thank you so much, i forgot i played this game, but this video reminded me how much time i spent trying to figure out what's going on, my english was bad at that time.
Wow phreakindee, i have never seen a channel grow like yours :) I have been watching you since your sega cd reciew and you absolutely deserve every single subscriber you have, i'm very happy that you have almost gathered 100k subscribers, congratulations!
I remember this game from when I was a kid. English is not my native language, but this game along with kings quest, leisure suit larry and police quest, taught me basic, and somewhat advanced english at the age of 6. Thanks for the review LGR. Old Sierra will always be in my gaming-heart.
Phreakindee, you are doing such a wonderful job each time you upload something! You keep your videoes interessting, funny but still "to-the-point"! You are doing a great job, and you really deserve to reach 100k subs, which you are doing very soon! :D Good luck ahead! :) Greetings from Norway!
At first I kept saying to myself "i've never heard of this before". But the instant you showed the gameplay screen I remembered I used to play this game for HOURS on end. So fun as a kid. Thank you for the memories.
I still have this on cd. The cd has the voices which I love...I've tried copying the cd on to my computer to play with the voices (as the cd has skipping voices) but it doesn't work (I can still play but no voices :( ). I think my dad threw the box away shortly after buying, which is a shame. Someone put the game on to Android but it's got many bugs. I came across an online version some time ago where you can download it and play on dos box, but I can't remember where.
Oh man, I vaguely remember playing this as a kid at a family friend's house, but I didn't remember what it was called. Nice! I'll have to check this out sometime.
The song that plays at 5:15 vaguely reminds me of the game setup theme from Wily and Light's Rockboard for the Famicom, itself being a Megaman themed board-game styled game. What's funny is that Jones predates it by three years, so maybe there was a slight inspiration for the music.
Hey, I just looked at this old Sierra catalog and there was a screenshot for Jones in the Fast Lane that showed Monilith Burger being called Mc Dermits and had a guys faace with glasses and short black hair. Was this a prototype?
Hey LGR I just recently found this old game the Jungle book (DOS) and it was a lot of fun and very nostalgic to play. Do you think you'll review that sometime? Either way great video and keep up the good work.
I remember there being a lot of issues with compatibility with certain hardware in the past on certain games. When you do a review, do you have to spec a PC to something that will specifically run with that game or do you just have a general use system that you run everything on?
Hot dang! I just started buying some boxed pc games here and there, I have 6 so far :') haha gotta start somewhere :p Though I probably won't be able to amass SUCH a ridiculous amount of pc games haha. Thanks for sharing your collection with us, keep it up man.
I really want to be able to play the game with the best quality soundtrack and the voices. I believe that is the CD version. But i don't know how to get it to work. All the online ones have bad soundtracks or no voices.
It's a great game. I remember something about there being no real penalty for having your food spoil (other than losing the food), so it worked out cheaper to buy food in bulk even if it spoiled. When you have enough cash, you can buy a refrigerator to stop your food spoiling, oh the excitement.
So THAT'S the name of this game! I played this all the time in grade school! Great stuff, and great review as usual! Also, wohoo, someone else who knows about Careers! I actually own a first edition copy of it, my father's favorite that we played when I was a kid, and have inherited. Interesting fact: the original prototype was made by a college finance professor who wanted to teach his students a bit about what real life is like back in the 50s.
Speaking of early subscribers, do you have any more reviews on VHS to upload? I enjoy those more than I should, the quality video and audio quality takes me back.
I finally was able to buy the big box of this game on eBay. It was pretty rare for me to find it to where it's sold in the United States. Most are overseas and pretty expensive.
Thanks for another great video.. I'm a big fan of retro games too, but as a kid I couldn't afford to buy these games.. so I was wondering if there is any way (apart from ebay) where I could actually buy these games?
Hey Cry, cool to see you here. Made me think I'm still dreaming after just recently waking up. Shouldn't you be streaming usually around this time or what happend?
So you can't sit at home and get high all day without paying any bills and get thrown out of your house and leaving you living in a car with fast food bags all over it?
Anyone interested in playing this can check an internet browser version online. Just look up Jones in the Fast Lane on google and you should find it. It even has the voice acting and music.
How the hell did you manage to run this game?? I'm running it under PCEM, and while a lot other video game work just fine, like Duke3d, Doom2, Biomenace, BlackThorne etc, this one goes crazy about sound system failed to initialize.... Please help to solve this stupid error!
Most gamers: "I want to discover fantasy worlds full of opportunities."
Clint: "I want to get older, run a doomed business, go bankrupt, die alone."
Thank you for the heart 😍
Thank you LGR.
This game was from my childhood and one of those that I had the most fun playing.

How to win at life: eat $60 worth of fries each week.
It's amazing how little harm can come from this strategy. It really helps to save up money for other things early in the game.
Wait, isn't that earning money from working the fryer?
Next version of this game should have a Health factor.
@@somefreshbread 60 bucks seems right, remember its a week worth of fries.
@@slitor Maybe today. In 1990 you could get Biggie fries, King Sized fries or Supersized fries for $1. Even if you got 5 of those a day at about 500 calories with tap water, you would only be out about $35 plus tax...
Finally a game where you can win at life.
I'm a big LGR fan. Been watching his videos for over a year now. :]
But... Are you still watching them?
That was one of my very most favourite games from childhood.
He's gonna make all the money now.
Looking for this
Loved this game as a kid. I remember playing with hardware sound and the music was still awesome. The Monolith Burgers tune was the best!

tripdefect87 That's what I thought while watching this! I used to love the Life Quest games.
I remember this game. It was awesome. Liked to play it. Now, my life looks pretty the same... Work, work, work, buying stuff, work, work...
"If you can't lose, what's the point of winning?" Did.. did Westworld steal that line from LGR?
Only if it hadn't been said probably an innumerable amount of times in many different languages all throughout history
@@appalachianexploration5714 Highly doubt that, asshole.
Love it that Monolith Burgers in an easter egg from Space Quest 3.
One of the best games of my childhood I used to play every Friday at a friend's place.
This was one of my favourite games growing up. I used to play it all the time back in the day on my old PC. Thanks for doing a review on it!

I freaking love this channel! Being a teen in the 90's is shizz
Can you do a review of some older adventure games like Loom or Waxworks or Darkseed??
joey4track Do you still watch him today?
I use to love this game. So many hours of my life put into this game when I was a kid. Truly a pc game classic
This was one of my favorite games back in the early 90s!
So many years later, and I still say thank the computer gods for Sierra Entertainment games!
Awesome! I remember playing the game with my Roland MT-32. It simply sounded great!
Thank you so much, i forgot i played this game, but this video reminded me how much time i spent trying to figure out what's going on, my english was bad at that time.
Wow...does THIS bring back memories! I loved this game back then. It was different than anything else Sierra released back then. Great stuff!
Congrats on 100k subscribers!
Great game :-) played it on DosBox last night .
Haha used to play this in computer class if we got done early with our work. =)
Wow! Until this video I had totaly forgotten about this game, thanks LGR!
I loved this game as a kid. Completely forgot it existed until seeing this video. Thanks!

nostalgia! i remember playing this back in the day. early highschool. good memories
I remember always only having the free time in computer class to play this, and wishing I could play for as long as I wanted :(

@@bigboxx2077 He did a review of the same game.
I got in love with these reviews. Awesome work mr. LGR. Keep rocking.

Thank you so much for mentioning Little Computer People! I've been trying to find out the name of that game for years!
As always, a pleasure to view your review presentation. Look forward to this next.
Very nice review,
Sidenote- This game needs a revival!!!
That bit at the beginning, was that a reference to "The Thirteenth Floor"?
Good point on the relationship between failure/success. I agree.
OMFG I totally forgot I even had this game !! - its like you found an old dusty chest in the attic for me rofl
I had this when i was a kid, got it in 1993. Loved it so much, my cousin borrowed it, never saw it again :(
This game brings back memories, one of the 1st games I played in DOS.
Wait... you can work at Monolith Burgers!? Like in Space Quest IV! Oddly subdued nod to another Sierra game.
I hope there's an Astro-Chicken machine.
Love these, Man I am really surprised you haven't done Contraption Zack yet. That was a great game.
Thanks for reviewing it. I played this when I was little. I love it
Now I am even more amazed you have most of them boxed.
And I'm proud to be that 100,000. Awesome job LGR
I loved this game when it came out. Will have to dig it out and give it a go again!

Aw I remember this game! Totally forgot about it until finding this video, I honestly thought I had invented it in my head as a false memory 😅
What is that music from in the immediate intro? It's lovely!
It's music that plays in the game itself.
Flint Ironstag Ahh, I should have figured that. Thanks, man!
Love playing this game when I was young.
"Luscious pink box..." PHRASING! :)
I've been binging on LGR videos for 4 days now, only stopping to eat or play Manic Mansion. Please send help....
