The 6 camera is so great. But when I see this comparison, I don't really regret for having bought the Pixel 5 recently instead of 6 (because the 6 is a little too big for my preference). The 5 still holds up very well.

Yeah, it looks way better. Not sure why the pixel 6 doesn't just default to using the telephoto for portraits in the first place like most other phones with a telephoto lens. Maybe because it's 4x and they think people won't want to back up that much? Even though that would be a silly reason not to use it anyway. But this is WAY better than using the built in portrait mode that crops in 2x on the main sensor.
That 4x should be roughly a 104mm equivalent which is a damn fine port focal length. Nikon's magical 70-105mm is THE defacto port lens on their full frame devices. 👍🏼

This is such a good review, thank you. As a Pixel 5 user with nagging thoughts of upgrading to the Pixel 6, I admit I started listening to the review with pitchforks ready. However, I love that you have shown here that despite the pixel 6 being overall better, the predecessor is not really so bad in comparison. Given that I'm an artist, and I actually do want to use photos magnified, I can see myself upgrading nonetheless but for the average user, this is very reassuring for those of us who stay with the Pixel 5. Especially if the use case scenario is that of an average, everyday user.
Great video, Danny. What I've noticed that there's a huge flaring in night pictures from well lit objects on P6, some so huge that covers half of the picture.
Oh my gosh, I was just at Disneyland/Cali Adventures this past weekend. Didn't have my 6pro with me since it hadn't arrived yet, but it's cool to see the shots you got on that device there. It's the perfect place to test cameras. I did run into someone in line for the Buzz Lightyear ride who had a 6pro on hand though. Anyway, thanks for another great photo comparison!
look at how far we've come for people to say that the stabilization on the 5 is "terrible". it's very far from terrible, when no video recording device on the market could come close to that just 4-5 years ago
Bro man, you are THE DEFINITIVE EXPERT with camera comparisons! I always know I what I can expect when I come here. Going to get the 6 Pro as an upgrade from the 4a5g, your video helps to make that decision easier.
What's funny is I had this in my watch later feed... then I just watched Unlockr's Travel Vlog video test of the 6 vs 5 vs S21 vs i13 and I kept legit picking the Pixel 5 shots (just for stills, don't get me wrong) almost every time. It was so well dialed in. This is ok though in my book, because it gives me hope for what the 6 could be after it's had some time. I know Google had some serious pressure getting this thing out the door on time. It's only a brand new sensor, new-ish chipset design, substantial new OS update and lens configuration oh all the while during the biggest global pandemic and shortages in centuries. Pretty sure there's plenty of room for further improvement is what I'm saying.
Not at it's current prices.. And I don't think it was even on release. Should be about $300 USD based on it's specs and performance now.. The 6 isn't much more expensive.
9:22 Thanks for showing this, that's ridiculous. I really hate the long exposure time of previous Pixel phones like the Pixel 3a (often slightly blurry images due to an exposure time of 1/3s-1s per frame, total exposure time up to nearly 7 seconds) and I expected that they would make Night Sight much faster (and with a shorter exposure time per frame) because the 6 Pro captures nearly three times as much light per time as the Pixel 3! They should make Night Sight take as long as the HDR+ On mode of the Google Nexus 5x, which took up to 2 seconds. The HDR+ On mode of the Nexus 5x and in particular the HDR+ enhanced mode of the Pixel 3a were nothing else than fast Night Sight modes. HDR+ enhanced usually takes up to 3 seconds (if you don't zoom) and chooses an exposure time of up to 1/5s per frame, I never get blurry images with HDR+ enhanced, that's why I nearly never use Night Sight, but HDR+ enhanced (Pixel 4/5/6 don't have HDR+ enhanced).
Nice comparisons. In this comparison especially I can tell I'm not going to be blown away from pictures on my 6 vs my current 4a5g unless I use the zoom lens...which was the reason I wanted the 6 Pro the most (besides the new chip).
But when you compare the premium against it's competition it's not even close. The Pro costs less than the iPhone 13 Pro and $200 less than the Pro Max. And the S21 Ultra is a little more than that I believe.
thanks I'm going to cancel my p6pro that was set to arrive in December. I was going to upgrade from my 5 but other than the zoom, there's no real change IMO.
@@dannywinget I mean it is, but I'm not a big video shooter, I shoot video maybe less than 1% of the time so I was only looking at the still images as the deciding factor and at this point it was an easy decision to make. @@breadmaster-lee I bought an S21 Ultra a couple months ago and was afraid I'd regret not waiting... I don't. Don't get me wrong, I see the potential in these new pixels, but they aren't there yet. Battery life would be my biggest turn off with them. I'm hoping that Google sticks with it, and fulfills their potential by the time I'm ready to upgrade in a couple years.
I'm currently using the Pixel 4a 5g which in fact, It's my first pixel phone. The camera on this phone is great overall. I wanted to upgrade to the Pixel 6 Pro but unfortunately. It's not available. They said that there's a shortage globally. I've tried all of the Best Buys stores and it says that it's sold out.
What about the lens flare? It seems extremely pronounced on the Pixel 6 Pro. I'm so torn on whether to upgrade from my Pixel 5 because of this and other factors.
Everyone is reviewing the 6 Pro. I believe a lot of people would like to see a review of the 6, not just the 6 Pro. I've heard the 6 is a better all around deal.
I dont have conditions to buy any Pixel Series phones, but im a user of Google Camera Mod, and i love how the pictures is so excellent compared to my stock camera, i have Android 12 Custom ROM, and i have the Google Pixel Magic Eraser tool too, and i love this tool, im from the South of Brazil, the Pixel phones will never comes to our market, but im so glad that i have my warrior Xiaomi phone !! i will still with it for some years !!
I sent my 6p back within an hour of it being delivered, i was so hyped up for this phone. As I've always had pixels, and felt let down by the camera for pictures. I took some pictures of some figures i have the gave them a halo around them i also didnt like that the whole figure wasnt in focus when you looked at its legs, i took the same shots using a p2xl and 11 pro Max they both looked better. Obviously when I zoomed in close you could see the 6p had more details but nothing you would notice unless you zoomed in pixel peeping. I also took pictures of a post while the centre of the poster was sharp the writing at the bottom wasn't. Again the other phone kept the whole image Sharp. Then the 4x lens .. when does that kick in ?? As every time i selected the 4x option it was just cropping in on the main sensor i know this as i put my finger over the telephoto lens. It was very intermittent in getting it to work! I had seen enough after that and returned it. This could be the year i switched to iphone never thought id say that. Im gutted
I've seen other reviews - but this one was the best job at comparing with actual shots. I'm going to stick with the 5 because I just bought it last May. I mostly use it for photos - don't shoot a ton of video, either.
Very nice comparison. Very very little to choose between the two cameras apart from night video and extended zoom capability. Elsewhere, the marginal often minuscule differences are only apparent on close comparison inspection and would be meaningless in normal usage. Given the substantial price difference between the pro and pixel 5 and more so with the 5a, unless night video and the extra zoom are crucial, an upgrade to the 6 Pro doesn't make enormous sense and the regular 6 is likely to be a more logical option if at all. (Per Danny's last year comparison with the Galaxy s20fe, this phone's camera equals and sometimes exceeds the 5 in a range of areas, including optical zoom and video performance and has been radically reduced in price, so makes the most sense of all. )
Let's not forget that the pixel 6pro is gonna get some updates for the camera software and that will fix some of the bugs for sure.. I like that you keep comparing the pictures to the real world objects and colors cuz that gives me an idea of which phone is giving the real results...
WDW local here thinking of switching before my Disney Paris trip. The selfie cam is the main reason I may switch. 6 looks far better than 5 but not as wide as Pixel 3.
I've started doing a lot of things on the photography side. I had to have the pro. How it gets skin tones correct/more true to life saves time in post. Improvements are marginal evey year. Never huge, people expectations be unreal
Best depiction of the improvements for the pixel 6 cameras on RUclips! I really do think Google will still optimize for the new cameras and imagine when they keep the same sensors for another year or two how much more they will do with it. Although they should put a wider rear wide angle.
Great review... as an iPhone 13Pro user, I was taking a hard look at the Pixel6Pro...mostly due to the fantastic software integration... and yes, longer zoom the my phone, think I'll hold off, await the iPhone 14
The original Pixel is the one to get for me. I owned it before. I own the 3 and feel it's still the best Pixel ever made. But the OG Pixel is the only one to get unlimited Google Photos storage in original quality forever and ever.
I was going to buy Pixel 6 because I don't like so much the curved screens, but after seeing this video, I think I will go for the PRO version. That trick of taking portraits using 4X zoom and getting a natural bokeh will solve the issues in missinterpreting the edges of portraits. I will deal with a bigger curved brick just to enjoy that zoom and wider selfie. Hope I won't regret...😓
I do think the 6 overdoes it sometimes. Shadow should be allowed to be dark if they were, the 6 seems to boost everything making the image much flatter
I have seen some techradar sample images and the Pixel 6 seems to have huge issues with lawns. It applies an aggressive and patchy amount of noise reduction to lawns. The techradar comparison with the Pixel 5 shows that the Pixel 5 doesn't have this issue. Very strange. The light conditions are good, the Pixel 5 didn't suffer from noise, but the Pixel 6 applies a huge amount of noise reduction, although it captures more light than the Pixel 5.. Very strange
I really wanted to upgrade to the pixel 6 pro from my pixel 3.. but at this point I think it's either going to be the pixel 5 or whatever the latest iphone is. I'll come back again for the pixel 7 next year when they fix some of the obvious flaws.
Great comparison again Danny! Pixel 6 Pro looks great. I hope Google tones down the saturation level on the main camera video, because 6:15 looks bad to my eyes. It's even worse than Samsungs saturation levels. Once you switched to the telephoto camera colors looked normal again. Oh and I hope they can fix the lens flare like at 12:38 top left corner, if that's possible.
I really hope that Google offers a 1s or 0.5s timer and the timer should not reset itself, when you open the camera app. The default mode captures images while you press the shutter button. This can cause blurry images, so it's better, if the camera can wait 0.5 seconds. As far as I know, there is only a 3s timer and Google phones reset the timer, when you open the camera app..
I understand this may be asking a lot but it would be great to add in the comparison between these phones and an iPhone 13/13Pro. Appreciate your work 👍
IMO once you get into upper echelons there's more variability per shot than there is between cameras. The exception is optical zoom, but that's more about price than technical differentiation. More money-->more to spend on telephoto lens system.
Oddly I am more impressed on how google can make a technically obsolete sensor on the Pixel 5 comparable to the Pixel 6 Pro's way more advanced sensor.
Excellent in depth video Dan. I'm loving my pixel 6 Pro. I don't get why a few you tubers are giving it a hard time. We've not had one update as yet and I'm sure a couple of small niggles will be sorted out pretty soon. I just love the audio to text function makes texting so simple. And the daytime pictures I've done so far are the best I've seen on any camera. Just loving it 😁

Camera comparisons are very similar. But for those wondering which to get, I'd think the pixel 6 overall (better stereo speakers, battery etc) would be better as the pixel 5's under screen speaker is so horrible
Sup Mister Winget and everyone awesome video I would like to see a comparison of the Samsung Galaxy a52 vs another low budget phone to see how well they perform and how well the camera works
Pixel 5 still holding its own, pictures looked better on the 5 not paying 300 extra for almost the same camera.. and the size of the 6 pro is enormously large, im not carrying that around.. you also lose the rear fingerprint & ultrawide is still not wide enough. Cancelled my order, better luck next time google
good video, what a pity that the difference of the 6 pro is not so much with the 5 and that it uses larger sensors. I think that in the 6 pro software photography is not used, which Google does so well

Damn the night video improvements are unreal!
Thanks for this test. It is really great. I'm upgrading from the Pixel 4 XL and it just have been shipped today.
look at how far we've come for people to say that the stabilization on the 5 is "terrible". it's very far from terrible, when no video recording device on the market could come close to that just 4-5 years ago
Got my 6 pro this morning...upgrading from my pixel 4...
Quite disappointed to be honest , but hope things will improve with software updates..
Bro man, you are THE DEFINITIVE EXPERT with camera comparisons! I always know I what I can expect when I come here. Going to get the 6 Pro as an upgrade from the 4a5g, your video helps to make that decision easier.
Appreciate that! I think you will love it.
@@dannywinget Yep! Now if I could actually order one from Google.... lol!
Just received my pixel 6 today! Never been this excited about a phone in years!
YOU ARE THE MAN. Needed this info FOR my next Disney Trip! THANK YOU!
Been waiting looking for this.
The Pixel 5 is a good deal
Your analasys of the 6 pro's improvments over the 5 is just on point
Great video and in depth look
You earned a new sub :)
Amazing work Danny! 🤘🏼🔝
By far the BEST camera review! Thank you so much for the time spent covering every aspect between the two.
I thought with the new 50MP camera, there would be night and day difference. But no.
In all of RUclips your camera comparisons are the best
Awesome review Danny, keep it up
Danny..You are always awesome.I love the way you talk and explain🥰
I appreciate the detail and nuance in your camera reviews. Good shit.
Videos from pixel 6 are so good, please record more, we need that
Excellent selection of comparison shots. Very helpful vid.
Thank you. Great comparison. You got to the key points quickly.
Nice comparisons. In this comparison especially I can tell I'm not going to be blown away from pictures on my 6 vs my current 4a5g unless I use the zoom lens...which was the reason I wanted the 6 Pro the most (besides the new chip).
Thanks for the tip on the 4x telephoto portrait. I like that shot better than any of the portrait mode shots I have seen.
It's evident that both cameras are great but the winner is clear. Question is, are people willing to pay the premium for the pro version?
But when you compare the premium against it's competition it's not even close. The Pro costs less than the iPhone 13 Pro and $200 less than the Pro Max. And the S21 Ultra is a little more than that I believe.
thanks I'm going to cancel my p6pro that was set to arrive in December. I was going to upgrade from my 5 but other than the zoom, there's no real change IMO.
Video is huge.
@@dannywinget I mean it is, but I'm not a big video shooter, I shoot video maybe less than 1% of the time so I was only looking at the still images as the deciding factor and at this point it was an easy decision to make. (Along with all the nonsense of delayed orders and the recent issue of screen flickering people are having.)
@@breadmaster-lee December not even far try January 5th that’s for my ip 13pm
@@bigmaxcc my pixel 6 pro s January 11. Hopefully more people cancel so I can get mine sooner. :)
You didn't try Google store?
@@morpheusmorph13 yes I did. It's sold out everywhere. This is crazy.
I've heard the 6 is a better all around deal.
most of the images are just a tiny better than pixel 5 but in rare pictures pixel 5 did better in genral pixel 5 camera is very powerful
That video upgrade is insane. FINALLY!
Please what do you mean by that
Very nice comparison.
Thanks so much! The best, most informative comparisons!
WDW local here thinking of switching before my Disney Paris trip. The selfie cam is the main reason I may switch. 6 looks far better than 5 but not as wide as Pixel 3.
It's wild how much better video is now
I've started doing a lot of things on the photography side.
Thank you, Danny for awesome compassion!
Great review... as an iPhone 13Pro user, I was taking a hard look at the Pixel6Pro...mostly due to the fantastic software integration... and yes, longer zoom the my phone, think I'll hold off, await the iPhone 14
The pixel 6 pro (and presumably 6) shines in low light, when my pixel 5 enables night sight my Pixel 6 Pro just takes the photo.
2:04 All that blur looks horrible to me when shooting near the subjects, like the food pictures. Really good comparison, thank you.
With the back cam or selfie ?
I'm still happy with my Pixel 5.
Thank you so much.
Wow this review is amazing and it shows you put in hard work. Wow thank you
Great comparison again Danny!
ONE UI 4.0 have that eraser function as well.
The voice isolation on 6 is amazing.
I love your reviews man. Respect your work 🙌🙌🙌
Oddly I am more impressed on how google can make a technically obsolete sensor on the Pixel 5 comparable to the Pixel 6 Pro's way more advanced sensor.
Yes, that's for now. Just wait for few updates to come, and I'm sure it will click significantly better shots than its competitors.
@@indrockz92 I am definitely looking forward to that
I was expecting a much much better imaging result for photographs, this is a disappointment to me.
Just loving it 😁
The camera will almost certainly get much better but they can’t judge based on future updates. They have to judge the product being sold now.
@@DanielLoganGames agreed.
How's your battery life? Any overheating issue? My pixel 6 pro doesn't come till January 2022... it's driving me crazy seeing everyone getting theirs already
@@IronCan88 I haven't had any over heating problems as yet but I'm not a gamer. So I'm not pushing it too hard. I got the 256gb version. I'm really enjoying it. Far better than the Samsung s20 I had. To be fair I rated the redmi note 10 Pro over that phone too!. But yes the pixel 6 Pro is great. Just not keen on the finger print scanner. It's a bit naff. I hope they add face scan at a later date. But not found any faults up to now and getting well over a day with a full charge.
This is the comparison I was looking for. Im not buying an iPhone or an S21, wanna see how Google improved from the Pixel 5!
I like your comparison, it lets us know how much improvement that Google did.
I think that in the 6 pro software photography is not used, which Google does so well
Alright, alright, I'll freaking subscribe. Really great content dude 👍
One of the biggest upgrade in camera I seen from 1 gen to the next gen
Hey local, you should try shooting some pics and vids over at Tibet-Butler Preserve. Especially right when it first opens, or right before it closes on the trail.
Not enough difference to justify the absence of free Google Photo
Amazing comparision video.
Pixel 6 pro has two significantly improvement if compare to Pixel 5: video and noise reduction
1:53 there is more lense flare on the 6 pro with very bright lights
Vedeo on pixel 6 has improved so much
The portrait mode on the 6 is rubbish. Google needs to fix the feature ASAP
