    Your professor sounded like a cool dude and a true car enthusiast. Rare.
    To give context about depreciation. When new in 2008, this Maserati and a Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG had the same MSRP. Now, both of these cars trade for around the same value on the used market. Depreciation hits every exotic luxury car brand. It doesn't matter if the car is German, Italian or British. Depreciation is not exclusive to Maserati.
    Poor people think rich people drive them because the rich buy them new and pay for certified maintenance. It is very rare for exotic cars to be taken care of after their original owner.

  • @F06M6
    @F06M6 3 дня назад +4

    I lovee these, had a 2009 in grigio granito - 4.7 facelift car with the 6 speed ZF box. Soo nice to drive, but even at the 50,000 mile well maintained mark, oh my goodness it sure did "ask" for so many parts every other drive. They also seem to be as battery sensitive as like an early VW Bentley, even with a battery maintainer the damn thing would want the door handles to be "reactivated" almost every other week, up until the physical handle broke
    apologies if not any of that made sense, currently at 5% brain activity due to flu/fever

  • @_elChapo
    @_elChapo 3 дня назад +7

    It's actually a very underrated car. Yes, Maserati had problems on the first models Quattroporte and not because of the engine but because of the box, the clutch on which had to be changed almost every 9,000 kilometres, and the price was anormous.The gearbox was actualy pretty similar if not the same as in 599 GTB (not GTO). But when they replaced it with ZF all the problems went away. By the way, this engine is very reliable and can compete even with Toyota's UZ. Besides, UZ is heavier and produces almost 1.5 times less horses. And about the sound I am not saying at all, the way Quattroporte sounds, no V8 on a market sounds
    As for the differences from the 430 engine, yes there are, but not really that many, it's the same F136 Maserati/Ferrari engine. The Ferrari has a different displacement, 4.3 vs 4.2(4.7) in the Maserati, the displacement is different because of the piston stroke, the pistons are both 92mm. The Ferrari has a different intake, exhaust, more efficient injectors, and flat plane crank (Maserati has a normal one). That's about it, of course, with a slightly different fuel system. But if anything, the Ferrari engine has slightly more horses, 480 versus 405 in the Maserati. The engine is actually unkillable, and most importantly, it's hand-built by one man. The cost of a second hand engine is now a penny too, to get a lightweight v8 with 405 horses, with the reliability of a UZ I believe its a good deal.

    • @seezyc158
      @seezyc158 3 дня назад +1

      483 hp in the 430. None of this matters anyway - in reality the 430 drives like a totally different beast.

    • @_elChapo

      @seezyc158 yes, my mistake...of course it drives differently, but for daily driving car, more than enough, this Maserati is not made for the track

    Fun fact the later 4.7L GTS versions are in fact not a pain to maintain. They are actually robust and relatively mechanically simple with no big "gotcha" drivetrain issues that are expensive. Valve cover gaskets go but cost 300 bucks and can be done yourself. ZF is a mercedes unit and is robust and reliable. The alternator can go out but again about 600 bucks for a new one and you can swap it in yourself if you were able to handle the valve cover gasket as it's basically the same labor. Nothing else really goes bad beyond normal wearables. Same applies to a 2013+ Granturismo Sports. I recently got a Granturismo MC and refreshed every fluid, brakes, belts, valve cover gaskets, and engine/trans mounts for 3k in parts to get it to a fully mechanically sorted example. Highly recommend. These are special cars that provide special experiences!
