I think K-pop didn't exist back then. It only first started getting more recognition and popularity during the late 1980s or mid-1990s, when music around the world was starting to sound more pop/mainstream. Before K-pop existed, it was just traditional Korean music (like trot) or Korean songs that take a lot of inspiration from American and Japanese music, as you can see in the video. They started getting influenced by American and Japanese music sounds, and with time, they found their own sound. It wasn't before the mid-2000s that K-pop finally started finding its own unique sound.
It's bizarre. K-pop companies are generally very relaxed about copyright on RUclips. I don't understand why this channel has done this because nobody else does. You have to wonder whether it's prejudice.
I was hoping to see Seo Taiji and Boys in the video since they were the ones who really started the Hallyu wave/made K-pop popular in the 1990s... Oh well. 😅
Yes, whoever made this knows nothing about this history of K-pop. There's some you can debate but everyone agrees that Seo Taiji & Boys was the critical turning point. It's like a history of Western pop without Presley or The Beatles.
History of Katsumotonese pop music The origins:1960s-70s The popularity:1985-2000 The peak:late 2000s Newest idols:2023 Katsumotonese pop music sounds almost identical to Jpop mixed with US pop elements and gibberish lyrics

Your original opinion is correct. There was Korean pop music before the mid-1990s, but it wasn't K-pop. That begins with Seo Taiji & Boys.
Back when kpop was kpop
I miss those times
OLD IS GOLD❤🇰🇷
All the audio is distorted and it misses Seo Taiji & Boys who created K-pop as we know it. Please find other sources if you want to learn about K-pop.
Shame you had to pitch the songs up, I assume for copyright, they sound like chipmunks
