It was a royal sh*tshow disaster. Somebody in government invested or bet the countries money on the wrong horse. The people couldn't do a whole lot. But they were Irish, and learned how to drink and fight. My mom was bummed out no Irish in genetic tests. Scotland, nope none either. She is a diverse blend of Europe. Her ancestors where both wealth bougious ppl mixed in with a hearthrob who jumped trains to make money after getting to TX. The fancy wife ancestor, she cried to go back to Georgia. If she were alive now, she would be shocked at how sub zero everyone's ac is. I live in WI, I borrow extra layers of sisters sweats when I visit bc it is so cold. 4 quilts in the summer cold. Sry for the tangent this just stirred up memories.
There are still Workhouses from the Famine scattered all around Ireland. We are constantly reminded of the horrors that happened. Love your videos Bailey!
Yep, under st James hospital in Dublin they preserved what was the basement of the old work house and built the hospital on top of it. There’s also a small part of a workhouse left in Lahinch co Clare. Where they built a day hospital.

how about an episode about the dark history of orphanages? i learned recently that there was a time when people would kidnap children from their families and then sell them to an orphanage. also, during the 1920's and 30's, i guess because of the great depression, people used to kidnap children from wealthy families and hold them for ransom.

I started a business while listening to you during the pandemic. It has done very well. Sometimes I have a bit of trouble focusing on all the things that I have to do. Then I listen to you and I am able to get everything in line and focus. Like that dog when it hears that bell.

Agreed, (heads up for other folks who don't know what superliz is talking about) a huge issue during the famine was because of British imperial chokeholding and forced exporting of crops without providing sufficient aid in return. You could get deep into that.

You should look into the mother and baby homes in Ireland years ago and orphanages in Ireland. Horrific places!!
