Hi, great video. In the market for one now,(2017) but online it says the battery is good for 3-5 years? Do you have to replace the battery as time has gone on? I take it it’s rather expensive to do? Thank you
It can only do that on short journeys. On a long journey it would be no more economical than a standard petrol engined car, it would have less range and would require stops to charge the batteries. Add the extra weight of the vehicle, tyhe reduced cargo space (due to massive battery pack), these hybrids are worthless for long trips.

Roger Bailey ..mercedes is a specialist on building comfort cars i like the interiors and the inside space on these cars,, i always look the interior comfort and to have enough room for a whole family . I really dont like small cars with out enough interior space . Thats why i bought my civic i loved the interior that has so much space even to cary a bicycle inside it
Dropping another LIKE on your video, Watching and Supporting! This point in time is interesting, with the technology evolving, I think that we need to get into hybrid to bridge the gap that we are entering.... I would love to go all electric, but if we all just jumped onto electric right now, it would likely hurt the electric producers who would not be ready to ramp up... a number of industries need to cooperate to get us where we need to be... and if they assisted other entities - manufactures and such - to evolve along the way, it could be a successful endeavor. I have too many thoughts on this for a post, but I love this area of thinking!

I know this is last year's news but I just bought a GLE 500e and have to thank you for your review which is helped me make the choice and is generally spot on. Some negatives and I'm still not sure about the suspension set up on our potholed roads., but overall very happy with it.
I've done 43K in my GLE 350d & I love it ! , But the only thing that stopped me buying the GLE500e was the boot space as we have 3x Labradors & There's too much boot space taken up by the batteries, Great Video !!

Roger, Just subscribed to your channel. I have a Audi SQ5 at the moment but i had the MB 350 ML before that. I am an Englishman living in Austria and the diesel debate is strong here along with Germany. We are going to buy another MB but we will go for the petrol version. Do you think the E set up is worth the loss of boot space & What model numbers do they have with the E option. I am retired now and my hobby is restoring classic cars. Great video Roger. IMO Hybrid is no replacement for diesel in it's current format despite the lies from manufacturers. In fact I believe hybrid is worthless in anything other than a performance car. The vehicles are significantly heavier, they have reduced cargo space and on long trips/motorway they're not economical at all. That matters to many people. Just as an example of how worthless Hybrid is in a super estate for eg, the standard Panamera Sport Turismo is 400kgs lighter, has significantly more cargo space and almost matches the hybrid version for power to weight, despite the power increase from the electric motors. I'd put up a £10k bet on a hybrid vs diesel range/economy test and I'd put every penny on the diesel. They should be working on ways to make diesel cleaner, not try to force people into compromised, complicated, less economical vehicles. Aside from the reduced cargo space and extra weight, the only journeys a hybrid excels at are short to medium range and city driving. As for the emmssions claims, that's a con based on a short journey with the majority of the journey being completed on electric power.
Roger Bailey thanks Roger. I’m just waiting for the day they make full EV really useable with range of at least 500 miles on a charge. I know diesel is in its “twilight” years but there is simply no alternative to the torque and economy combination it offers. I’d much rather see them put their efforts into cleaning up diesel as much as scientifically possible rather than just ditch it. My car’s running costs (E91 320D) are so low and on a long journey I’ll get almost 800 miles to a tank. There is no EV, hybrid or even petrol engines car that gets close to that. Anyway keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing your 911 :)
Thank you for the mentally stimulating comment stubones. Actually what auto manufacturers now call Hybrid was "electric assist" technology. Then manufacturers marketed it as the hybrid. Things became confusing on our certification tests for a while. Diesel over electric trains are the true Hybrid setup and are very efficient moving large amounts of weight over long distances. A true diesel over electric hybrid would still not be practical in an SUV or passenger vehicle due to the lack of quick acceleration demanded by consumers. The complexity you mentioned becomes a problem with maintenance and repair. Full electric with longer range will take over, and they will be autonomous vehicles. We are experiencing an exciting automotive renaissance. The BMW i3 (I think had promise) is a gas over electric marketed as "Range extended". For various reasons, the Tesla S, Tesla X, Tesla 3, and even the new Chevy Bolt have better range full electric than the i3.

Jane and I were out here driving out to hey 40 wasayyyyy out there. Jane always driving , and I looked and said , look some one is flying a drone, whoooah that is a big drone. Then we realized it wa totally quite. And as we could see no wings. Neither wanted to say the word UFO. It was going well over 100 MPH . It was right close and across from us. It just disappear which really gave me a chill. We hardly said a thing about it after that. We had possibly seen a UFO. Two days later Jane jumped up and said look at this. Am article and picture of the glider that guy has built . From the side it looks like no wing. Blue tail and white body. They tested it over the Mohave. And we saw it. Unbelievable!!
