Oh my God this is so accurate. One of my most recent memories of one of these is a heavily battle damaged one pulling up to me while I was walking on the sidewalk, curbing the wheels so hard chunks of alloy blew off, and the 16 year old female driver taking a ungodly vape hit. My friend then leaned forward in the passenger seat and waved, before awkwardly introducing me to his new girlfriend (the driver). I noted "Hey, I think you may have pretty badly curbed your wheels just now," and she giggled and took another vape hit.

GLK wealth was moving in to a ‘new’ house because it was something your grandparents bought when houses were cheap and pay was good compared to inflation, while your neighbor across the street is moving in because they need a “quaint” 2 story, 4 car garage winter home. As a car hauler that works primarily with Mercedes, that "Doesn't go from a stop" is a God send. Often times the tires are inches away from dropping off the front of a deck, a lot of vehicles can EASILY go right off. Mercedes? They just stay right there until you're ready to pull back. As someone who primarily drives a manual I prefer no-creep, and always think it absurd when electric cars and hybrids have it artificially. I guess it's about what your used to, people who usually drive manuals will prefer no-creep and conventional automatics prefer creep. One thing Tesla did right is give the driver the option to turn it on or off. As well as your car-hauler scenario, I think it's safer for the car to not go if you let go of the brake, versus to start moving on its own.

Good video, a truly regular car review in this time. Back in 2019? I helped a female roommate pick this suv at one of those used car places in New York city. Literally the only bad thing about the car was original tires, and for 10 year old tires at that moment and 100k miles it was pretty much brand new. Spotless underneath as I did the ppi. I did some light research and people who bought this vehicle really liked it, especially for the fact that it is very normal. No super fancy suspension system to break for 3k a pop, nearly every part could be replaced for toyota camry prices. To this day its the best vehicle I could recommend for 10k given its clean underneath and has some service history. Said girl still drives it, and has put in nothing but oil changes. A 30 year old girl treats it much better than a 20 year old thats for sure lol.

I've owned a 2014 GLK250 Bluetec diesel from new, so I guffawed (a greatly underutilized verb, IMO). I suppose it's a bit more interesting, but not a lot more interesting, than the gas version in having two turbochargers attached to its little four-banger diesel. What it does do, is achieve amazing fuel mileage (6.4 L/100km on my Montréal-Toronto and back trip this weekend or 36USmpg) with surprising performance for such a small diesel in such a heavy car. Not sure if I own it to look wealthy, and, though I'm now retired, I've never been in either real estate or accounting, but I do know I own it because it's cheaper and far, far more reliable than the R-class it replaced, and it's as near to unstoppable in snow as my wife's ancient Volvo Cross-Country. Speaking of which, a Volvo Cross-Country should definitely be on your list of cars to drive.

Also, they were all cheap at the time because Mercedes leased out too many of these (and C classes) and didn't know what to do with them all when the leases came due, so they all seemed to come to us.

I didn't ask for the black GLK350 that my mom bought me, she just did out of the blue when I graduated. I got to say, it did get attention from the people who worked at the factory and warehouse that was refurbishing TVs, and now I've moved on to working with Taxes for the state government in the state I reside, and it still gets that "wow a Mercedes" comment from people who don't realize my family didn't even pay $20k for the used thing. I even had a Tinder date that suddenly got excited when she saw me pull up in it, because she was from a low-income family and didn't realize they made cars for people who want to overpay for gasoline (yes I scored but I don't think the GLK350 deserves all the credit for that).
It's a nice car to drive and ride. I appreciate it because it exists for me right now, and is aging better than the old beaten up 2001 Chevy Venture van which my dad destroyed the interior of because he's an ogre and treats objects like Shriek would (feels bad because that car got me through college), or the 1995 Fleet-wood Cadillac that my sister destroyed and has its wheels off in a garage while the roof rots off, or that Lincoln Navigator my parents spent years trying to get running again. Cars they touch turn to milk. I'm going to ride this magical half-German, half-Mexican gift horse as long and hard as I can while longingly looking at Jeep Gladiators on the road, then forgetting about it because those cost way too much. It's a perfectly boring car, for my perfectly boring job, and I wouldn't ask for much more.

The whole "looking wealthy without knowing what wealth is" and unnecessary SUVs based off of car platforms that give the appreance of prestige is what the market wants right now. This is especially true of German and American brands, and will continue for another few years until the customers that dealers currently prey on with $1k/mo. leases run out of credit. The GLK is not only a symbol of 2010 engineering, but a foreshadowing to late 2010s and 2020s mindless consumerism.
