Gacharic Spin is as far as i know a Wordplay. Gacha Machines usualy contain little Toys or Merch. You insert your 100 yen ( or whatever ) turn the handle and get a little Plastic Ball with something in it. You never know what you get , same goes for this Band. The Song " I wish I " could not be more different than Mindset . Love this Band. "I wish I " is such an emotional roller coaster , it gives me chills every single Time. Sorry my English is not good - , great Reaction - greetings from Germany

For me personally this song's title is perfect. I had a whole new mindset after hearing it. These bands from Japan really challenge what you think you like. In my mid 60's, it isn't all that easy to make me change my paradigm the way bands like Band-Maid, Gacharic Spin, Glim Spanky and Otoboke Beaver have.

Thank you for reacting to this talented yet under appreciated band. I’ve had the good fortune to see three of Japan’s best female bassists this year. MISA (Band-Maid), Haraguchi-San (Nemophila) and F Chopper Koga (Gacharic Spin). To me, Koga was the most ferocious of the three. Standing below her at times I felt like I needed a hard hat!

"The whole part is just nuts" Well, I think this is the most fitting of all descriptions in general for this band. I am a follower of certain Maids in the first place, but these ladies here have placed themselves very close behind them in no time. :)
The crazy thing is, that they multiply this energy, which you get an idea of here, many times over on stage. No matter from which generation of this band you watch a live video, the bunnies of a certain battery manufacturer are nothing against them. :) Sure, my knowledge may be very limited, but fun and energy levels so far above any imaginable scale I have never seen before. Want an example? -> "Gacharic Spin - 赤裸ライアー (Official Live Video) @LINE CUBE SHIBUYA" (The song title translates as 'Sekira Liar').

Gacharic Spin is pretty unique to say the least. Constantly changing it up by mixing different styles and genres, even within a single song.
For live show recommendations, in no particular order.
"I Wish I" from the PIT.
"Reverse Psychology" from Line Cube Shibuya.
    "Redline" from 2019.
    "Next Stage" from 2019.
    "Tamashii" also from 2019.
Can't really go wrong with any of those. There's a ton more ones I could throw in there (Just about everything they have ever played live with a decent recording of it. Hah.)

I would second any of these but my personal vote is also for "I wish I" which for info was the other single from the same album as Mindset. The live version from Toyosu PIT is amazing

Great reaction. Your face expressions said it all. Yes, these women are extremely talented and they are not following a trend but blazing their own path. Somehow they can put a variety of genres into their music writing blender and make it work so don't expect all their songs to sound like this. Also, Tomo-Zo, the guitarist, is very underrated. Part of the reason might be because she likes to dress up in girly girl outfits and can't stop smiling so it might seem that what she plays can't be that difficult. She is very versatile and quite accomplished. As for live shows, the energy level is off the charts. Want something very different, try this live version...Gacharic Spin - I wish I (Official Live Video) in 豊洲PIT (Lyrics in English)

Thanks Mike! I'm usually into the heavier stuff but I'm a die hard Gacharic Spin fan. Their live performances are crazy. They're a performance band as much as anything and have morphed so many times over the years it'll make you see spots trying to keep up. This is a great introduction though because without it you might pass some of their music of as bubblegum at first listen.
Really been enjoying the channel, and not just because I'm a bald and beardy dude too. You've been hitting a lot of favorites lately and have interesting things to say. Keep sharing the journey and I'll keep watching! Thanks again!

This studio performance/MV has Hana (their original drummer) temporarily back on drums as the current drummer (Yuri) was on maternity leave when they recorded this album. Hana has now mainly switched over to 2nd guitar and vocals (she's a multi-instrumentalist in the truest sense of the word as well as the main songwriter, though all members contribute). The group has been through many changes over their 14yrs, but the current GS 5.0 lineup has been stable for the best part of five and has the most focused version of their sound.
Gachapin actually posted a live multi-cam version of this song on their channel a few weeks back, so the music nerd in you can see what all the members are doing at any point, including the 2nd guitar Hana does live when Yuri is present. Recommend checking that out in your own time to avoid repeating yourself for a reaction. Tis neither their heaviest or poppiest sounding song, it's often hard to predict what style they'll play next.
For your next reaction there's many directions for live videos you could go in with GS. The official live video for 'I Wish I' from the start of the year might be a good place to try if you want to continue with this album. Otherwise there's a whole batch of the newest songs from a performance at Line Cube Shibuya they've uploaded in the last six months, all of which are a good idea and a range of styles. Or if you want something a little older there's two videos from their 10th anniversary concert in 2019 when Angie (pink haired singer) & yuri were relatively new to the band, 'Redline' and 'Tamashii' that both seemed to win over new fans regularly.

Great reaction Mike! Always nice to new people discovering GS. If you want to see them playing live, there's quite a few videos from their live shows on their channel, heck they even have a full 2hr show uploaded there, so there's plenty to choose from.

By far my favourite band, sadly quite overlooked by many people, perhaps because they are so eclectic in their sound
Those who do know them and can appreciate their extremely unique take on music absolutely love them however, musicians in particular
They have a more metal side project called DOLL$BOXX with Fuki on lead vocals, look up this video to see them performing 3 songs live: "DOLL$BOXX - Shout Down / Karakuri Town / 世界はきっと愛を知ってるんだ" - if you like good live performances this is definitely a video you should get around to

Phantastic reaction! Great job with reading the lyrics upfront, cause no way in hell you can follow the music, the vid and the lyrics at the same time (on the first go through especially). You're correct about the lyrics being angry in the beginning: they are about what societies expects of young people, especially in the context of the pandemic, and the restrictions put on their (young) lives. The second part is indeed about making the best of it and searching for your own way through live.
Gacharic is not a real word, they intentionally made it up (derived from Gacha-machines).
Stuff like the modulation from e-minor to g-minor in the second bridge is typical for their music, they always put interesting elements in their arrangements.
And you should do a reaction to one of their lives, cause they are one of the best live acts. I'm sure some peeps will throw around some suggestions in the comments.
    Cheers :)
btw, your reaction was mirroring mine to a T, when I first heard the song :)

G'day Mike. Oh man, so happy you got to these ladies. Bassist FC Koga (great name) is a band founder with Hana (drummer/vocalist/guitarist/anything-that-makes-a-sound). Along with new drummer, this is their most stable and talented line-up - they have _always_ been high energy. This song was the song of the year 2021 for me, and I am a huge fan of all those Japanese bands. They have been compared to Infectious Grooves before!

Hi, an excellent reaction! I can tell you are the best person who appreciates and understands this band down to the deep core. And that was my huge surprise that you have mentioned ELP, Emerson, Lake and Palmer! I got a total dope with them in my high school days, and I thought I have nothing to listen to after them(LoLo, too much exaggeration..) Those two are different, but I totally agree the innovative fusion of rock, jazz, classic and others into more than the summation of them, and the stunningly cool presentation as the new one! That is the same! Thank you for doing this

Stumbled upon your channel because of Måneskin, I would never have expected to see you react to one of my favourite bands of all time, especially considering they're (sadly) not that known in the West, at least not as much as bands like One Ok Rock, Babymetal, and even Band-Maid. Keep on rocking and reacting on!

I've heard this song probably 100 times now and have been a huge ELP fan since the mid-70's. Never once in those 100 times have I ever thought ELP. Because GS has a good keyboard player? ELP was the first prog band that came to mind? That's weak, my friend, and I don't hear Emerson there anywhere.

You just might be the first reactor who pronounced their name correctly, right off the bat, and didn’t call them a stuck band after watching this video.
However, good comparison to INFECTIOUS GROOVES, at least for this song.I never get tired of the amazing breakdown.
GACHAPIN have three main vocalists. Pink-haired ANGELENA 1/3, is a recent addition; she’s only 19 or 20 yo here, and she’s brought a new energy to the band. More recently, young RIE joined to take on drumming duty, which enabled blue-haired HANA to pick up her guitar and perform at the front of the stage for the first time. Try the live video of REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY + THE COME UP CHAPTER from NAON の YAON 2023, the Rock festival for all-female Japanese bands produced by KEIKO TARADA and her80’s Metal band SHOW-YA (another one for you to check out-try WATASHI WA ARASHII [I AM THE STORM] and GENKAI LOVERS).
I wish I is another amazing song with serious lyrics, but you definitely need to watch the OMV first, before moving on to a live version.

I’m not an expert, but pronunciation-wise Japanese seems to predominantly end syllables on vowel sounds where possible rather than blending into consonants like we commonly do in English. So, it’s ga-cha-ric rather than ga-char-ic.
