I probably owe my love of metal to Japanese music. Grew up playing video games that had composers influenced by rock/metal and wrote it into their soundtracks, so by the time I discovered Iron Maiden and Judas Priest in my early teens it felt like home. Gacharic Spin are a new discovery for me but I'm in love with their combination of virtuoso musicianship, genre-bending music, superb hooks/melodicism, and sheer fun and energy. Haven't seen such electric live performers since The Who, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, etc. This may be their best song, but they have a really consistently excellent discography as I'm discovering.
I understand how you feel when you see them destroy their instruments. But don't worry. The instruments they are destroying were initially destined for disposal. They confessed at a later date that they were hesitant to smash the instrument, even if it was to be disposed of, as a behind-the-scenes story about the production of the music video. This MV director needed to be more considerate of the musicians. (IMHO)
It has made my day that you decided to look at this band and song, and that you enjoyed it so much. F Chopper Koga (real name Michiko Koga) is the one that started the band in 2009 with her friend Hana Sano who was on drums. Tomo-zo was soon added on guitar and a couple of years later they were joined by Oreo Reona on keyboards. I consider this the core four of Gacharic Spin because there have been other members come and go, especially vocalists. The vocalist on this video goes by the name Angelina 1/3 and she joined the band in 2019 at only 17 years old. They also recently added a drummer and Hana Sano is now up front as a guitarist and vocalist (Hana is one of those amazing vocalist/multi-instrumentalists a la Dave Grohl). I am hoping Angelina 1/3 is the vocalist that stays because she definitely has the voice and charisma to front the band despite her age. The rest of they band are in their early to mid-30s I believe. Back in 2012, when Gacharic Spin's vocalist had to leave the band for health reasons (and sadly died a few years later) the core four joined with Fuki, the vocalist of Unlucky Morpheus, to create a side project band called Doll$Boxx. They released an album which included a song called Take My Chance and filmed a very entertaining music video for the song. Fuki's voice is amazing as always and Hana's voice might surprise you. And, of course, the core four are in top core four form - ruclips.net/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/видео.html
@@Oedwak I appreciate that very much. I am a huge fan of Fuki so discovered Gacharic Spin when I started watching and listening to Fuki in Doll$Boxx. The musicianship of the core four was very evident. I was especially impressed by Hana Sano (and still am). Of course, I then had to start listening to Gacharic Spin. They have struggled finding their identity over the years but I am hoping that staying with the current six will solve that problem. They don't need anyone else (especially dancers). Although I will miss Hana behind the drums, I understand why they want her up front. Yuri is a great drummer so I am sure I will get over it.
If you combine Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus on lead vocals with Gacharic Spin musicians F Chopper Koga (Bass), Hana (Drums), Tomo-zo (Guitar) and Oreo Reona (Keyboards) you have an amazing side project called DOLL$BOXX (pronounced "Doll's Box"). The 'MindSet' video also has Angelina 1/3 (Vocals, Dancer/Performer), one of the newer additions to the band. New member yuri (Drums) was out on maternity leave when they filmed this one. When yuri is playing, Hana usually switches over to guitar, but she can pretty much play anything.
Great first reaction and this band is very underrated but the more you dig the more you find just how great this band is. Gacharic Spin is a group that is best described as loosely contained chaos on stage and all the musicians are some of the best in Japan. Gacharic Spin is one of my favorite bands. The band was formed in 2009 by bassist F Chopper Koga after leaving her first band, Pink Panda. Koga was looking for musicians for a new band and asked her friend from HS the drummer Hana first. At this time, Hana was playing bass in another band and switched to drums (she is a multi-instrumentalist). Together they found guitarist Eita and singer Armmy. After a few concerts on their first tour, Eita left the band and they needed to find another guitarist so the recruited Tomo-Zo, who was the guitarist from the band Eu Phoria, that also included the keyboardist Oreo, had just split up so Tomo-Zo could start at Gacharic Spin. Oreo supported the band with keyboard at concerts in 2010 and 2011 until becoming a full member in 2012. Original singer Armmy left the band around 2012 due to health issues (she later passed away). They have also had a number of support members mainly for dancing around, sometimes playing instrument. In 2019 they switched up the lineup and Hana switched from drums to rhythm guitar, added drummer Yuri and new dance/vocalist Angelina 1/3 (pink) hair, she was 17 at the time, she's now 20). .

I knew you would love this! Gacharic Spin are awesome! Have you done Maximum The Hormone from Japan yet? If not try A-L-I-E-N by them. This band fries brains. Don't ever presume you think you know what is going to happen next when listening to them!
I'm glad that you liked "MindSet", my favorite song from last year. Gacharic Spin are in my top 3 japanese bands with BAND-MAID and Maximum the Hormone (I also include DOLL$BOXX in it because it basically Gacharic Spin musicians + Fuki, the singer of Unlucky Morpheus). That's funny you mentioned David Maxim Micic, I listened to his music today. Did you know that his new album called "Bilo IV" is coming out November 25th? I hope you will do more Gacharic Spin and also DOLL$BOXX :)
The "F" in F Chopper Koga stands for funky! The headstock on her signature bass is labeled "FCK". It took me an embarrassingly long time to put the "FCK" together with her stage name at first.
The secret to their music is that they all compose and arrange, so they know how to compliment each other in such a way that all the parts fit together perfectly. The person who writes the original melody is usually designated the main composer, and is responsible for writing the initial score for all the other instruments. Then they separate and refine their parts, and regroup from time to time to see how things are fitting together, with the main composer having the finally say. An interesting side effect is that the main composer may challenge the other members to play in a style they aren't familiar with, so they continue to learn from each other and evolve as a group. KOGA's stage name is based on the slap & pop style known as chopping in Japan, and a misunderstanding of how "pheromone" is spelled in English. (A pheromone is a secretion that affects the behavior of others.) Japanese doesn't have a word that conveys the meaning of pheromone, so it is written phonetically with Katakana characters as フェロモン to indicate it's a "borrowed" word. KOGA evidently entered the Katakana into a translation app and accidentally used the first letter of the English phonetic spelling (feromon) instead of the actual English word "pheromone", resulting in F CHOPPER KOGA.
Very enjoyable reaction - the slap bass comparison for Flea is completely understandable but Koga has listed Les Claypool of Primus as her primary influence. I also recommend I Wish I as your next stop for a journey indeed. You may also enjoy their heavier sideproject Doll$boxx with Fuki the lead singer from Unlucky Morpheus (who are also a great band to check out if you haven't already - or Quadratum which is their instrumental line up)
Great reaction.Gacharic Spin is one of my all time favorite bands.Check out more Gacharic Spin especially the mv for “I Wish I” and the live performance of “Reverse Psychology “ you’ll going to love them.
I was first introduced to this band with a live version of "Mindset" and at the end I literally thought "WTF did I just listen to." Yes, "their musicianship cannot be denied". Gacharic Spin is hard to define since they have a wide variety of sounds. When they write a song it seems as though they put different genres into the blender and what comes out is pure Gacharic Spin. They have become one of my favorite bands along with guitarist Tomo-zo who is very underrated. Her solos are very well crafted but often too short and too low in the mix. If you want to hear her shine listen to some of the live Doll$box videos. (Doll$box is Gacharic Spin with singer Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus) Tomo-zo plays some amazing rock riffs and solos with that band.
Funny you should mention Hanabie and Trident, as they just played a show together last night, along with Broken By The Scream. That must have been an amazing show Sounds like you just might be reacting to more Gachapin soon. Hana! Hana! Hana! Don't forget DOLL$BOXX!

I am a huge fan of Tomo Oz the guitarist. She is one of Japan's top guitarists. So, here's a video to prove it. Gacharic Spin - Instrumental ruclips.net/video/tTbDgxQFo2w/видео.html There are 200+ Rock/Metal bands in Japan with about half all female. Japan is the #2 music market in the world with more record stores than the US. BUT Jpop and Kpop are the biggest part of the music market. Japan is Kpop's #2 market, they record many of their songs in Japanese and perform in Japanese on tour there. An example, Band Maid's main fan base is the US and Europe, even though they the #1 Rock/Metal band in Japan. This is per Miku and Saki!!
Tomo-zo has also become one of my favorite guitarists. I think she is very underrated because she often dresses more like a young girly-girl pop musician and the constant smile on her face makes it looks like she can't be a serious guitarist. Like the rest of the band, her talent is off the charts.
One of your pronounciations was spot on LOL I'm not sure if RHCP is one of their big influences, but I'm pretty sure that Koga mentioned Flea as one of her favourite bass players. Also, not 2 songs of GS are the same. You can't really put them into the corner of any genre, cause they do whatever they feel like doing. Band-Maid and Lovebites for example pretty much stick to their genre. GS and Maximum The Hormone OTOH will drive purists crazy, cause their music is a constantly moving target. Great reaction - hope you'll do more reactions to Gachapin. ( I Wish I is usually the next stop). Cheers Mate!!!
Cheers Mate?? ... Ami, are you by any chance Australian? *grin* Anyway, I thoroughly endorses everything you've said lol... I've been in love with this band since about 2010/11. 💜🤘🏳⚧⚧♀♀🏳🌈🦘
Since you love talent and seem pretty open to styles, i think you are really going to love this band. I say check out something fairly early like Next Stage next - no one else will suggest this, but i think your ready :)
Most people reacting to Gacharic Spin are from a rock music background, so NEXT STAGE can be a bit of a leap, hence rarely suggested. Great track though and an early favourite for me. I tend to prefer their earlier material but they have a very strong discography. Given his interest in the funk side of things, I'm surprised there's been no mention of Generation Gap.
In case no one also has mentioned yet, I've most often heard it called Gah-char-ic Spin. I believe it's based on the Japanese term for toy capsule machines (or Gachapon). I think it's meant to reflect the eclectic nature of their music in the sense that you never know what kinda song you're gonna get much the way you never know which toy you'll get from a gachapon machine.
Koga is one of the best bassists around, she just plays effortlessly and Tomo Zo is the happiest guitarist there is she just smiles, spins and shreds. If you want to see just how talented they are watch Tamashii with toys ( I think I got the name right) or some of their live music, they really put on a show!
Saki from Nemophila (and Mary’s Blood) said in an interview back in October, pretty much all the bands know each other and many of them play together and hang out together off stage. And Koga has been going by, “F. Chopper Koga”, more often than the original Fuck’n Chopper Koga. She has done modeling, acting, composing, and obviously performing music. Koga is one of those super talented people in the world. I assume the, “Fuck’n” part was created while she was going through a rebellious stage. She’s more mature now. But still just as awesome.
Gacharic Spin (think of it kinda like “Gotcha-Rick”) is an incredible band with quite a history, some of it tragic. Koga is the band founder along with her friend Hana (drummer). The story goes that Koga wanted to quit music, but Hana convinced her to keep going. Koga agreed, but only if Hana would join her. Tomo-zo the guitarist joined, as did their original singer Ammy. Unfortunately Ammy had extreme health issues, and ended up having to take extended breaks. Around this time they added Oreo (keyboard), and both Hana and Oreo would perform vocals. Ammy ended up leaving the band permanently (and unfortunately passed away a short time later). Because their two main singers (Hana and Oreo) were stuck behind their instruments, drums and keys respectively, they felt like they didn’t have a “frontman” performer, like most bands would with a traditional singer. So they hired dancers to fill that sort of role on stage. Over time, the dancers have rotated in and out, and the most recent one is Angelina (pink hair). The band quickly realized she could sing, so she’s becoming more and more a traditional frontwoman for the band. Also, they added another drummer (I think her name is Yuki, and she wasn’t present during this video), so now Hana alternates between guitar and drums (they do full on drum battles during concerts), depending on the needs of the song. Gacharic Spin, or Gachapin for short, are known for wild stage shows. Absolutely bonkers shows. Insane costumes, props, sparklers, confetti, lights, the whole works. And when I say insane costumes, I mean insane. Oreo dressed up as a giant hamburger with ketchup and mustard pig-tails. Their music is as eclectic as their image. No one will deny their talent, but some will admit that their music can be divisive. Relentlessly creative, they do tend to push the musical envelope, fusing funk, rock, and pop in interesting ways. I can certainly say some of their earlier stuff is hit and miss for me, but their recent stuff in the Angelina era has been all hits for me, personally. The band seems to have finally settled on a sound. Others may mention a side project called Doll$Boxx. During Gachapin’s early days when their original vocalist was out because of health troubles, they recruited guest vocalists, and for a significant time Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus and Lightbringer was their vocalist on tour. That led to a more hard rock/metal side project called Doll$Boxxwith the 4 musicians from Gacha (Koga, Hana, Oreo, and Tomo-zo) and Fuki as vocalist. They made 2 albums together, but it’s been a while since the last one, and with everyone being so busy with their own main projects it’s unlikely that we will get another Doll$Boxx album anytime soon. Still, it’s very worth reacting to D$B as well
Gatcha-Ric or Gatcha, because they will get your senses. Check out DOLLS BOXX same musicians with singer Fuki from UNLUCKY MORPHEUS. Start off with Take my Chance official music video.
Time for your next Bass introduction.. Kiyoshi has worked with Marty Friedman (former Megadeath) on his tour and projects, but has her own project. It is just her hand a drummer and all the "solo" lines are her on a bass. A good start is Kiyoshi 'Hero' or 'Warning', Now for a look back a history in Japanese Metal/Hard Rock and breaking into Western Markets. That would be the band Loudness. The guitar player for Loudness is Akira Takasaki. He is looked at as the Eddie V of Japan. He is also a major influence on Hal-Ca of Astrerism. Check out 'LOUDNESS - exploder 1984'. You will catch his influence on new Japanese players of today.
These girls are amazing across the board. Based on your comments, if you haven't already, take a look into Asterism, a three piece instrumental band from Japan, who are solid across the board with one of the best up and coming guitarist in Hal CA.
Cool review. Looks like plenty of people have covered the basic GS info. The drum fill you paused on - there's additional ring to it because there appears to be some guitar unison, so not necessarily a post-production thing. Nice name dropping on the obscure European prog-fusion artists. Seek out a band called 7for4 if you like that style of stuff - I think they're German. Complex, melodic, bit of jazz. No reaction required - just for your enjoyment. I think you'd like Unprocessed too, if you haven't already heard them.
Love this song and band. They do have a funky sound and lots of energy on stage. F Chopper Koga, ya, a better slap bassist I dont think you will find. Most Japanese bands have a positive message to give and love what they do and it shows. Language is not a problem with me, a good singer can convey meaning and emotion with out me having to understand the words.
My man.... you need to go and react to their video for the song "I Wish I", your head will explode! Then go and find the band Doll$boxx (same musicians, different vocalist) and check out the official video for "Take my Chance" and "Shout Down"!
You mentioned Hana drumming and singing. Koga has gone on record saying Hana is a better bass player than she is. She's a multi-instrumentalist that has moved from drums recently to guitar, aerophone, ruler, stapler and toothbrush! Hana performed a home cover of "Smells like Teen Spirit" using household objects while quarantined during the pandemic: ruclips.net/video/HbXmA7pvHbU/видео.html
Their musicianship is definitely undeniable, unfortunately for me they are very divisive, some songs I absolutely love, but there are equally as many songs I really cant get into. This one tho is amazing. Hana, the drummer here, is probably the first japanese musician I idolized, I respect her a lot, amazing drummer, yet she plays 1 quadrillion instruments and her voice is amazing on top of that. As far as im aware the "ch" in Gacharic Spin is pronounced like the "ch" in chopper, so NOT gacaric spin.
Please check out babymetal new songs Divine Attack and Monochrome Divine attack came out October 20th and Monochrome just dropped today they will blow your mind and about Gacharic spin check out their song I wish I where they do a complete 180 from what you just watched

You may also enjoy their heavier sideproject Doll$boxx with Fuki the lead singer from Unlucky Morpheus (who are also a great band to check out if you haven't already - or Quadratum which is their instrumental line up)
A masterpiece! Check out their songs I Wish I and Tamashii as soon as possible! It’s a crime they are so unknown as a band.
All right! Finally got to Gacha Spin! Already smiling and I haven't even started the Reaction.
The instruments they broke were originally meant to be broken. Just to be sure.
I'm a little surprised at how much you enjoyed that. Well done! Try "I Wish I" or "Instrumental" next.
That must have been an amazing show
Sounds like you just might be reacting to more Gachapin soon. Hana! Hana! Hana!
Don't forget DOLL$BOXX!
😁😁😁😁😁

I am a huge fan of Tomo Oz the guitarist. She is one of Japan's top guitarists. So, here's a video to prove it. Gacharic Spin - Instrumental ruclips.net/video/tTbDgxQFo2w/видео.html
There are 200+ Rock/Metal bands in Japan with about half all female.
Came here to post the link to "Instrumental" but you beat me to it. Clicking the thumb instead!
Tomo-zo has also become one of my favorite guitarists. I think she is very underrated because she often dresses more like a young girly-girl pop musician and the constant smile on her face makes it looks like she can't be a serious guitarist. Like the rest of the band, her talent is off the charts.
That link is for Ryan Mear's reaction video. This one is for the actual live video: ruclips.net/video/VXAB83r0lbQ/видео.html
@@timokarvonen804 Oops I didn't follow the previous link before clicking the thumb. Ryan's reaction video is excellent though!
One of your pronounciations was spot on LOL
I'm not sure if RHCP is one of their big influences, but I'm pretty sure that Koga mentioned Flea as one of her favourite bass players.
I second this. NEXT STAGE is the song that hooked me and made me a fan. It's insanely energetic and gets overlooked too often.
If you really want to appreciate Gacharic Spin musicianship, check out Tamashii (live 2019) and insttrumental, both live performances
Still, it’s very worth reacting to D$B as well
This Japanese band,
Ga.cha.ric spin, has been going strong for 13 years now.
Gatcha-Ric or Gatcha, because they will get your senses. Check out DOLLS BOXX same musicians with singer Fuki from UNLUCKY MORPHEUS. Start off with Take my Chance official music video.
Great band. They're all talented but Koga is up there with Misa and Widi(VoB) as bass goddesses. You MUST check out the live stuff
Yea Ive done a few asterism tracks
Cool review. Looks like plenty of people have covered the basic GS info. The drum fill you paused on - there's additional ring to it because there appears to be some guitar unison, so not necessarily a post-production thing.
Nice name dropping on the obscure European prog-fusion artists. Seek out a band called 7for4 if you like that style of stuff - I think they're German. Complex, melodic, bit of jazz. No reaction required - just for your enjoyment. I think you'd like Unprocessed too, if you haven't already heard them.
Yea I dig their tracks abandoned and antlers decay…but I’ll have to add 7for4 to the list
As a guitar player, you must see Tomo play in this band. Here she is in an instrumental. ruclips.net/video/VXAB83r0lbQ/видео.html
My man.... you need to go and react to their video for the song "I Wish I", your head will explode!
Yes! Japanese RHCP but without whiny vocals
You should watch Tamashii live......🤘
you mixed it up: It was the RHCP being influenced by GS, when they experienced a space-time-warp one day on a trip in the mountains …

They are far away from RHCP.
It's really a rare thing that Japanese breaks their instruments. such an awful thing and terrible to watch.
They use junk for their music videos. It was nice to finally help them.
I have the same feelings as you do too.
