Damn. You gotta get your son's mind to open up and flourish. It looks like he has a lot of barriers put up when it comes to song length, lyrics, instrumentation, and structure. Bring him on for some more old school reactions! It'll be good for him to develop a music sense.

By the time this album came out, Stevie owned his own masters. This was something that he negotiated with the record company in the 70's. He is known to play the piano, keyboard, bongos, congas, drums, harmonica, tambourine, and harpejji. This song itself was a tribute to Bob Marley, which is the reason for the Reggae feel. But the lyrics as well will point you to Bob Marley.
For a great story album to listen to, try Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta. Also, his Songs in the Key of Life album is a great story album, as this was his interpretation on events that shape our lives. Great foundation album to branch out on Stevie with.
For the rap part, Stevie has done some rapping. But one example would be "Each Other's Throat" from the Jungle Fever album.

Stevie's Real Name is Steveland Judkins Hardaway Morris.. The name Stevie Wonder came from Barry Gordy which became his stage name as Barry Gordy was so impressed with all the different instruments he could play he just called him a little wonder.Stevie signed with Motown when he was 10yrs old.His first big record with Motown was called Fingertips when he was 13yrs old!!

He has the perfect songs for fathers to there daughters just two "isn't she lovely "and "for once in my life " are beautiful.I also love when he adds the funk like in "higher ground " like you said he's a legend a treasure and has a great sense of humor I remember those Eddie Murphy days and he actually did a funny piece with him.

That's true what you were talking about regarding racism. I met a survivor of the holocaust once who said that he was growing up in Nazi Germany when Hitler came to power and never knew he was Jewish until the persecution of the Jews started escalating. He grew up as a German and never considered himself anything else.

I'm 58yrs old, I've been a fan of Stevie's since the early 70's, just wanted to let you know that Stevie was Not!! born blind. Stevie was born 5to6 weeks premature and had to be placed in an incubator. While in the incubator there was an issue with the oxygen he was receiving, I watched an interview he was doing which can also be found on RUclips, he went on to say it had something to do with the temperature of the oxygen which damaged his retinals in the back of the back of his eyes which caused his blindness.Moving on to his music I thought it might be fun to mention that when he's in the studio working on a new project the different instruments being played on the songs are all being played by Stevie.🎼🎹🥁🎤!!!

Oh! Eddie Murphy wasn't joking when he used to say "Stevie Wonder's a musical genius". I'm the kind of person that Eddie Murphy used to make fun of with that line. Stevie's probably my favourite musician of all time.
This song is his homage to Bob Marley. The references to Zimbabwe might be there partly because Marley's Rastafarianism was predicated upon aspects of the 20th century politics of Africa, which Rastas refer to as their "Zion" (borrowing the Biblical language of the Exodus). Stevie didn't quite write every one of his own songs: he at least covered Bob Marley's "Redemption Song".
Of course he knew about racial politics: he was one of the most successful people in pushing for the creation of MLK Day. "Happy Birthday", from the same album, Hotter Than July, was his homage to King - it's right there in the lyrics - and greatly popularised the campaign for MLK Day, possibly being the main reason for its ultimate success.
I've seen Stevie live in his concert, and yes, he sings exactly like this, as well as this, live. It's unbelievable.
He was trained in a special school for blind children that focused on teaching them music, and was a musical prodigy, able to play 10 instruments by a young age. (Interesting fact: he also lost his sense of smell, after a log fell from a logging truck, crashing into a car that he was in and injuring him.) Listen to "Fingertips", his first big hit, back when he was still Little Stevie Wonder. (Another interesting fact: the drummer on that was a then-barely-famous Marvin Gaye.) Yes, "Stevie Wonder" is a stage name.
Stevie's before my time, too. But you've got to listen to him, he's a genius. My old housemates and I used to be at old-school funk and soul clubs every week, at the other end of the world to you, and when the DJ put Stevie on, the club always went crazy. This was in the early 2000s. He was one of maybe 2 or 3 performers whose songs marked the high point of the night on the dancefloor.
He won the Grammy for Album of the year 3 times in the seventies within 4 years. The one year he didn't, Paul Simon won it, and in his acceptance speech, he thanked Stevie Wonder for not releasing an album that year. He's one of only three people to win the Album of the Year Grammy three times, and has won 25 Grammies altogether, making him one of the most successful musicians by this measure. Those three albums probably represent the high point of his creative genius. They are Innervisions, Fulfillingness' First Finale, and Songs in the Key of Life.
In that seventies period, he was young, and was also experimenting with new instruments, including being a pioneer of the Talk Box (the other big one being Peter Frampton), and the rise of analogue, and then digital synthesisers. He promted the inventor Ray Kurzweil to start making synthesisers, since they already had a connection because Kurzweil had made a text-to-speech device to read printed books to blind people. The first Kurzweil synthesiser was made for him. He also worked closely with other pioneers of synthesiser technology.
Although he's musical royalty's musical royalty, he has happily played harmonica as a session musician on others' songs, such as Herbie Hancock, and The Eurythmics, being essentially a harmonica virtuoso.
Stevie Wonder not an American treasure. He's a world treasure.

People in different towns - they have so much pain.
    Discharge them, come on.

    Chorus 2:
Choice without options - that’s all you gave us.
    People without hope is poverty.
Now it's time to pay the bills.
Choice without options - that’s all you gave us.

    Verse 2:
Schoolboy hanged himself in the yard of the house.
Chicks hook up cash for straw.
Dogs bark, someone's lock has been cut,
here will get an alcohol from scrap metal.

So bitch, I'm from the underbelly,
    my voice is permeated
    with cannabis smoke,
    not their show-biz.
    Watch TV, you're like Alice
in Wonderland. Visa to my world
