I heard about how many people like this film - very few. I'm one of those very few. I don't think it is anywhere as bad as many have claimed it to be. They kept the names, so you have to give them credit for that, and the storyline concept was something I found to be pretty cool. At the same time, there are many things that people hate that I'm fond of. Because of that, if you make something related to something I like that's so hated that even I hate it (like Wheel of Fortune for the Wii U for instance), you know you failed miserably. But the SMB live action movie was something I liked. Apart from the storyline and names, you also have to admire the visual effects. Those were pretty nice for early 90s standards. BTW, at 2:48, is that stuff at the bottom left goomba ******?
The one thing people criticize this movie for is that almost all connections to the Mario franchise are just references and names. For example, Thwomp is a brand name in the movie, that huge fish from Mario 3 is now a black lady, Bowser is Donald Trump who becomes a dinosaur for half a minute and I don't even know about Toad. But that's also the biggest reason to why this movie can be a great guilty pleasure, just comparing it to Mario and how ridiculous of an adaptation it is.

Probably late to the punch, but the slime on the floor was from a deleted scene. A guard sneezes, and King Koopa makes a remark about the spreading of germs before devolving the guard back to the "primeval goo" that was mentioned previously. The scene was dropped from the final cut as it was unpopular among editors and thought it may be too graphic for young viewers. It ended up creating a plot hole that people like you pointed out.
What was cut: (Technician sneezes, Koopa notices it) Koopa: You're sick. You better sit down. (Pushes technician onto the chair) We can't have you spreading germs around, can we? Technician: B-b-b-but (Koopa gives a gesture to start the machine. Simon sets the machine to De-Evolve to Primordial, killing the technician)
Nothing really comes out of throwing Koopa in the machine, if he was slowly turning into Bowser throughout the movie and that fight at the end actually went somewhere then this could pay off.

I have a theory that King Koopa becomes evil due to His ancestor's nature. T-Rex are powerful kings of all dinosaurs that no small lizard can defeat. Since the T-Rex are preferred as predators and because of their violent personality have led the creation of King Koopa.
I never got the point of koopa being pushed into the chair in this scene. You think by his eye there, that maybe over the course of the movie he'll mutate into a lizard monster but nope
It was part of a deleted scene. A guard would have sneezed at Koopa which pissed him off so much that he threw the guard into the devo chamber. The guard would de-evolve into slime which is what you see. It would justify the bros pushing Koopa into the chair. It was cut but the slime still remained for unknown reasons.
Was this Devo machine the reason Koopa turned from human to a dinosaur (especially since he was developing dinosaur eyes from 3:03-3:07) or was it the devo guns Mario and Luigi zapped him with at the end of the film?

I think he meant it to say that he's the evolutionary descendant of a t-rex. If you look at the picture he points out (1:50), its much like our own evolution from primates chart. He didn't start as a t-rex and then morphed into a humanoid.
What would have this world more believable is if the side characters, like the cops and civilians, were played by dwarfs or animatronic puppets like Labyrinth. Especially Toad.

A guard would have sneezed at Koopa which pissed him off so much that he threw the guard into the devo chamber. The guard would de-evolve into slime which is what you see. It would justify the bros pushing Koopa into the chair.
It was cut but the slime still remained for unknown reasons.

Was this Devo machine the reason Koopa turned from human to a dinosaur (especially since he was developing dinosaur eyes from 3:03-3:07) or was it the devo guns Mario and Luigi zapped him with at the end of the film?

@Sentinel Magnus It was just surprising as to why he didn't turn into a dinosaur right away after the devo chamber because here in this video clip, Toad was zapped in the devo chamber and right away turned into a goomba. I wonder if Mario and Luigi never zapped Koopa with the devo guns that if Koopa would have stayed as a human and never transformed into a dinosaur.
@@seymourkrelborn4780 It's surprising and confusing as to why Koopa didn't right away turn into a dinosaur after being zapped in the devo machine since as soon as Toad was zapped, he right away turned into a goomba. However, I wonder if Mario and Luigi never zapped Koopa with the devo guns if Koopa would have stayed as a human and never transformed into a dinosaur because throughout the whole movie it never showed him transforming little by little and he never felt any change in himself saying "what's happening to me?"

They should’ve just turned it all the way down to the primeval stage then he’d turn into slime.
I think he meant it to say that he's the evolutionary descendant of a t-rex. If you look at the picture he points out (1:50), its much like our own evolution from primates chart. He didn't start as a t-rex and then morphed into a humanoid.
What would have this world more believable is if the side characters, like the cops and civilians, were played by dwarfs or animatronic puppets like Labyrinth. Especially Toad.
RIP Bob Hoskins you were far better than this movie deserved to have.
If this version of SMB gets remade, I hope Jerry Trainor plays King Koopa.
