People have given great introductions to the members of PTX but I'd just like to add a little more about Kevin Olusola. He's the beatboxer of the group. He also plays the cello, piano, saxophone, and has a beautiful tenor voice with quite a large range which he had vocal training to improve. His voice is very stable and clear and I've yet to hear a crack or any kind of mistake when he sings. He has a RUclips channel called Kevin Olusola, his name, and I think you'd enjoy his covers he posts on there. Some extra facts about him is that he graduated from Yale and is fluent in Mandarin. I just thought he needed a little more explanation besides a guy that can play the cello and beatbox at the same time.
I’m glad you made this post. As was said when they were on “the sing-off” Avi and Kevin have been the meat and potatoes of the group, without them and their unique voices and extra talents, there would be no base for their arrangements. Thank you for sharing all of Kevin’s great facts that not many know.

Scott refers to himself as a baritone, but he has an incredible range. Melodies are often in the tenor range so we hear that a lot from him, but he also covers the base whenever Avi sings lead such as happens in 'Hallelujah.' To really appreciate this you should react to Scott Hoying's cover of 'I Should Tell Ya Momma on Ya' by Red, wherein he jumps from tenor to base and back rapidly and repeatedly while also providing a complicated beat via his hand against his chest. It's impressive. Here's a link to the live A Capella studio recording: ruclips.net/video/Px2mE7yOTew/видео.html
Scott Hoying (tall blonde in the middle) and Mitch Grassi have solo music out together called SUPERFRUIT and their album Future friends. Kirstin Maldonado (the female) has a solo album by the name of LOVE. Avi Kaplan (the bass) has a solo album out called Sage and Stone. His official position is baritone, but he takes over the bass line if the bass is singing lead and it they need a second high harmony when Kirstie or Mitch are singing lead, no problem, Scott's here for that too. He generally uses falsetto for these, of course. And apparently, he's been working on his whistle too :D. Maybe it's a joke and he's still not quite there, but he's actually improved, so there's that :D. This is a great reaction though, very informative. As you generally are, anyway. You need to listen to their new stuff- this video is so old and they (especially Mitch) look so different now *(also I’m freaking out because I love PTX and I’ve seen them twice in concert and am going for a third time in a row)*
The girl Kirstie have an EP called LOVE. the beatboxer Kevin had a bunch of covers, and he also plays the cello. Mitch and Scott, the guy in the middle have a channel called superfruit and they have two ep called future friends. Avi the bass left ptx but ye released an EP called Avirel and the seqouias. The news bass is Matt sallee and I don't think he has any solo work.
Btw, Kirstin has some solo music, Kevin the beatboxer does cello boxing vids where he beatboxes and plays the cello, it’s really cool, Avi has a group called Avriel and the Sequoias which do some covers, and Scott the tall blond has some solo music from when he was in high school which is on iTunes
Yaasssss Pentatonix and the evolution of music video is so so cool, you should check out Superfruit’s (Scott and Mitch from ptx) medley’s and hip hop goes broadway!!!
Lol they all have solo stuff! Mitch and Scott with Superfruit, Kevin with his band Triptyq and his own solo covers on his channel, Kirstie with her EP L O V E, Avi with his band Avriel and the Sequoias, and it looks like Matt just has some of his Berklee performances scattered around on RUclips.
Watching this right after I took my Music Lit exam! haha It's a big overview of music history. We're almost to finals week and we're just about to start the 20th century. I also wish they would cover more of the last 100 years! :)
Because right before they started singing Destiny's Child they said "Hit me baby one more time.." and by the time he made a comment they were on to the next song.
You should check out Superfruit (Mitch and Scotts channel). They did a lot of great stuff like Evolution of Lady Gaga and Beyonce. DEFFINETLY check out their Hip hop goes Broadway videos, you'll be impressed. Also, Pentatonix -Aha! Singapore performance is amazing!!
The bass, Avi has a band called Avriel and the sequoias and an album called Sage and Stone. It’s fantastic. I would also recommend listening to Kirstin and Jeremy’s Disney Love Medley performance. Scott, the blonde tenor has a RUclips page with Mitch called superfruit where they do a bunch of really cool singing videos. My all time favourites are their Hip Hop Goes Broadway videos. They’re hilarious and amazing.
I’m wayyy too addicted to your videos. I’ve been singing for years and I’m studying to major on the Vocal Arts and I’m dying to get one of your classes! 😭👏🏼
I ❤️ this video so much. I liked all except for the last 10 years. Lol I grew up listening to the “oldies 50-80’s but still quite a bit from the 20-40’s which I LOvED so much. In fact I think I’m going to rewatch this.
Scott Hoying (the guy in the middle) did a version of Radiohead’s “Creep” and “I Should Tell Ya Momma on You” on his RUclips channel. Those are really good and maybe you’d like them.
Can u check out Scott and Mitch's channel called Sup3rfruit, Kevin the beatboxer has a cover of Down, Kirstie has a song Break A Little, Avi the bass, Quarter Pass Four?
The girls name is Kirstin Taylor Maldonado she has a lot solo stuff. The colors guy’s name is Kevin Olusola he has a little bit of solo music. Mitch and Scott do music on there own in the group called superfruit and Avi Kaplan is now out of the group. They do have a replacer called Matt Sallee... ❤️
Mitch Grassi ( the guy in the top left corner) is a tenor and everyone always gets blown away with his crazy, effortless vocals. Scott Hoying ( the guy in the middle) I believed was a baritone but now that you point out that he is a tenor I question life, but anyways he is the main singer of the group and has amazing riffing and running skills which everyone loves. Kirstin Maldonado ( the only girl) is a soprano I believe and she recently released an EP called L O V E. She made music videos for a few of her beautiful, original songs on her channel, kirstin. She has the voice of a gorgeous pop star and controls her voice very well. Avi Kaplan ( the guy in the bottom left corner) is a bass and always drives the ladies crazy with his deep, low voice. He also sings on a few of their songs, and he has an amazing voice. Sadly, he left the group about a year ago to persue a solo career. His newly formed band is called Avriel & the Sequoias, which is not an acapella band. Matt Sallee has become the new bass of Pentatonix and he is killing it so far. He just recently joined the group, but he is getting along amazingly with everyone as you can see in PTXperience. He has a different voice than Avi, so the group had to change their style of music a bit, but they sound equally as great as before. Matt is an amazing bass and also has a beautiful voice. Kevin Olusola ( the guy on the bottom right corner) is a beatboxer. He blows everyone away with his crazy, in-human sounds that come from his mouth. It amazes me how effortless he can do such insane things. He also has his own channel, Kevin Olusola, where he covers songs with his beautiful singing voice and plays the cello. He does crazy things on his channel, you just have to see for yourself, he's nuts. Pentatonix has won 3 grammies, their first being Daft Punk, second being Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and third being Jolene featuring Dolly Pardon. Mitch and Scott share a channel, Superfruit, where they cover songs, and have recently been making original songs along with amazing music videos, which are not acapella. Their voices together are perfect, and they have been BFF's since they were 10 years old. Pentatonix won the Sing Off in 2011, Season 3. Ever since then they have been releasing music and showing their beautiful relationship off to the whole world. They are now going on world tours, with sold out tickets. They are the #1 acapella group as of now. They also have hilarious personalities and their bond is un-breakable. They are the perfect group of voices and the perfect group of best friends.
You HAVE to react to Superfruit. It's Mitch and Scott's (blond guy) music group duo thing. It started as a RUclips channel and then turned into them releasing a full fledged album. Very unique sound, I think heavily influenced by Mitch's musical taste. Super cool music videos with great visuals.
Man, I remember this from 2015. It's one of the videos I've downloaded along with Bastille's Pompeii and their Rather Be cover early in the morning. Goodness, the memories.
please react to korean singer sohyang!! these live performances : sohyang - bridge over troubled water sohyang - lean on me sohyang - raise me up thank u and love u
Tristan, I wanna know if you agree, but I think music history should include non European influences like the merengue and African tribal musics and that other diasporas should not be confined to "world music" or "non western music" history classes. Music history should not automatically imply western music history when spanish, black, and asian influences are so important.
Fun fact Tristan, Scott sung bass in high school because they didn't have one and he was their best baritone. He has even stated this and that he is a baritone on Superfruit. And if you listen to their version of Hallelujah, when Avi has the melody, Scott is doing the bass part beautifully. A tenor wouldn't be able to have such a strong bass part, but a baritone would
The handsome dreamy bass guy- Avi have his own music channels: Avriel & the Sequoias, check it out. Thank you for the video and hope you would do more pentatonix video ❤️

*(also I’m freaking out because I love PTX and I’ve seen them twice in concert and am going for a third time in a row)*
i totally agree, also im seeing them live for the first time in december!!! im so excited!!!
so i havnt been a fan long but ever since the first ive seen them all.My daughter sings and i find the teq. fasinating.your awesome love your voice!!
Sahana Gopalakrishnan this is exactly what i was about to write.Ive liked this comment so he can see this.
Dont forget Kevin also has an ep
Btw, Kirstin has some solo music, Kevin the beatboxer does cello boxing vids where he beatboxes and plays the cello, it’s really cool, Avi has a group called Avriel and the Sequoias which do some covers, and Scott the tall blond has some solo music from when he was in high school which is on iTunes
Yaasssss Pentatonix and the evolution of music video is so so cool, you should check out Superfruit’s (Scott and Mitch from ptx) medley’s and hip hop goes broadway!!!
And I love their Beyoncé medley!
YESSS
also there album, absolutely amazing and such a fresh sound for pop music today. their voices blend really well.
DUDE!! you completely ignored the most ICONIC high note are you genuinely insane
React to pentatonix singing "Imagine". All of them had a solo during the song.
You should react to Scott and Mitch's 'Evolution of Gaga'
This has been released for a long time now *and still I know all the lines*.
*Hi to all the Pentaholics out there.*
J K this was in 2012. Six years isn’t “a couple of years.” It’s SIX.
@@drieuxkoeppel4157 sure. Edited. Thanks.
Actually thought it was just 5 years old, wow 6 years is a long time.
Watching this right after I took my Music Lit exam! haha It's a big overview of music history. We're almost to finals week and we're just about to start the 20th century. I also wish they would cover more of the last 100 years! :)
Just saw them in concert and just, YESSSSS I love Pentatonix, my favorite song from them is Natural Disaster
Please react to Superfruit's Beyonce Medley. Literally my favorite thing they have ever put out.
Yes!!
Yes❤️
Also Rise
SAME
Yes pleassse
Have to check out KOlusola singing sign of the times! He’s so talented and what you see in Pentatonix is just small fraction of what he can do.
They are an amazing blend of vocal singers. Their ranges compliment each other soo well😍❤
I used to be obsessed with this video! In 4th-5th grade my friends and I memorized the whole thing and sang it during recess. MEMORIES
My children listened to this in their elementary music class this year. Such a cool quick glimpse of how music evolves.
You should react to Zane hijazi’s song boom😂
I second this!
Yes!
Yaaaas Queen
OMG yesssss
I have your profile pic as my profile pic on pinterest
You should check out Scott Hoying’s (the guy in the middle) cover of Lost On You with Mario Jose! It’s amazing!
The video I didn’t know I was waiting for
I love that he is so positive and doesn’t put down everything they sing
Why does every one of his thumbnails look like he's about to spill tea?👌😂
I love pentatonix I’m so glad you made this video! :)
Tristan, you said "Britney - iconic" during Destiny's Child "Say My Name".....noooooooooooo
thought I was the only one who noticed this travesty happening......
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!! OMG!
4:37
Shelby Travers it was the hit me baby one more time???
You dumb or what ? Didn´t you hear that "hit me baby one more time" line ?
It's probably sad that this is the highlight of my day but I don't care.
I saw them live and I started crying. It was so good.
When he said "Britney, iconic" when they were singing destiny's child I had to do a rewind to make sure I heard right
Because right before they started singing Destiny's Child they said "Hit me baby one more time.." and by the time he made a comment they were on to the next song.
4:35 HE SAID BRITNEY OMG RIP
OH NO R I P
I didn't think anyone else noticed!
He was saying that to "Hit me baby one more time" tho
Ikr i was like "oh no, honey no"
KyraBear(: They're only calling him out on it b/c they had already moved on to Destiny's Child by the time he said that.
OMG I FREAKIN LOVE PTX
I used that video in my vocal music presentation last week I'm interested to see ur take on it
I love your videos! I hope I can be as good of a singer as you soon :)
React to the rehearsal version of This Is Me from The Greatest Showman!!
I ❤️ this video so much. I liked all except for the last 10 years. Lol I grew up listening to the “oldies 50-80’s but still quite a bit from the 20-40’s which I LOvED so much. In fact I think I’m going to rewatch this.
6:45
Guy in the middle=Scott Hoying
Girl=Kirstin Maldonado
Bass=Avi Kaplan/Matt Sallee
Drummer=Kevin Olusola
Tenor=Mitch Grassi
You should react to Thomas sanders! He is a really good singer and just did a cover of breathing by Ariana Grande!
THAT HIGH NOTE IS GOALS😍😍😍😍😍😍
You should react to Jon cozart
Also please listen to Mitch Grassi singing Graveyard!
Shantelle Piki YES so good!!
EVEN THEIR “HEY” WAS IN HARMONY at the end
*This whole video reminds me of Andy Bernard*
You HAVE to react to Superfruit. It's Mitch and Scott's (blond guy) music group duo thing. It started as a RUclips channel and then turned into them releasing a full fledged album. Very unique sound, I think heavily influenced by Mitch's musical taste. Super cool music videos with great visuals.
oh my godddddd i love ptx and you and ahhhhh yes
Graceanne Goff my exact reaction
Can you react to the best auditions of the voice kids please?
Yessss!
Man, I remember this from 2015. It's one of the videos I've downloaded along with Bastille's Pompeii and their Rather Be cover early in the morning.
Goodness, the memories.
DISNEY LOVE MELODY!!! It has Vocative and Kirstie singing! I know you’ll absolutely enjoy it!!!
Brendon.Urie.Vocal.Range

Oml oml I LOVE Pantatonix so SO much thanks you 😂❤️❤️❤️
You should react to 4th Power/4th Impact! They’re a Filipino girl group and their first performance was INSANE. Highly recommend!
please react to korean singer sohyang!!
these live performances : sohyang - bridge over troubled water
sohyang - lean on me
sohyang - raise me up
thank u and love u
Tristan, I wanna know if you agree, but I think music history should include non European influences like the merengue and African tribal musics and that other diasporas should not be confined to "world music" or "non western music" history classes. Music history should not automatically imply western music history when spanish, black, and asian influences are so important.
Alyssa Hayes what you said👏🏿
Only if they've actually influenced Western music. But a non Western music class would be interesting for everything else.
@@millief6074 oh honey...
Fun fact Tristan, Scott sung bass in high school because they didn't have one and he was their best baritone. He has even stated this and that he is a baritone on Superfruit. And if you listen to their version of Hallelujah, when Avi has the melody, Scott is doing the bass part beautifully. A tenor wouldn't be able to have such a strong bass part, but a baritone would
Scott's voice is everything. ❤❤❤
I wish he talked about their voices not the hostory of music. 🙍
History*
He did talk about their voices though.
No, Scott’s voice is AMAZING. But so is Mitch’s. ❤️
The handsome dreamy bass guy- Avi have his own music channels: Avriel & the Sequoias, check it out.
Thank you for the video and hope you would do more pentatonix video ❤️
The ancient music featured is part of European music/history of course, music in different parts of the world was different. Love Tristan 🤘🏼
Every time he complements them I’m like don’t you know who they are? They are amazing!
