Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band, formed in London in 1967. Their album "Rumours" (1977) has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in history. All the songs on it are great. "Dreams", "Don't Stop", "You Make Loving Fun". "Second Hand News", "Gold Dust Woman" & "The Chain". Other great songs from other albums are "Over My Head", "Say You Love Me", "Rhiannon", "Landslide", "Tusk", "Think About Me", "Sara", "Hold Me", "Love In Store", "Gypsy", "Oh Diane" etc.

Even though I'm more of a Rush fanatic, in 77 Rush was only 3 years old (album wise) But Fleetwood Mac has been releasing albums since the late 60s. If you have about 45 minutes, give that whole album a listen. You'll love the whole thing probably.

Hi Sal….Helene here. This is one of the top selling albums in history. I believe it’s even in the top 10. It was literally everywhere in 1977/78. I would suggest listening to every track. The production values on this album are stellar. Lindsey Buckingham did the lead vocals on this, plus lead guitar. An excellent, though underrated guitarist…..probably because the bands format didn’t lend itself to long solos where he could shine. Stevie Nicks is the lead female vocalist in this line-up. In the 80’s, she went on to have a hugely successful solo career, which continues to this day. Fleetwood Mac is also still touring, but without Buckingham.

How do the kids say it these days? This entire album is FIRE. This one album reportedly has sales of 40 million in the U.S. alone and 2 million in Canada. The band had the most success in the 70s and 80s with a line-up that featured Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie - the three principal songwriters and vocalists. Other song tracks to check out: Don't Stop, The Chain (those instrumental solos!), Dreams, Songbird, Second Hand News, You Make Loving Fun.

Move on to the the album released right before this one, "Fleetwood Mac (1975 Album)", it is also one of their best releases! "Bella Donna" is Stevie's first solo album and it demands a listen!

  • @stpnwlf9

If anything, this album proves that tension produces great creativity. Quite the collaborative effort, too -- multiple songwriters and lead singers across this record. Lindsey Buckingham tends to be vastly underrated as a composer and guitarist as well as his production skills. By this album, the British blues label was mostly in the past, but the capabilities of the Brit/American alliance version were at their peak.

Before you get flooded with requests for Mac songs featuring vocalist Stevie Nicks, be advised that she and guitarist joined in '75, and pianist/vocalist Christine McVie had already been a key presence in their sound. Give a listen to her bluesy "Spare Me a Little" from the 1972 album _Bare Trees_ .

The next cut from this album should be The Chain. Lindsey Buckingham (lead guitar and vocals) and Stevie Nicks (lead vocals) had been 8n a relationship, but were breaking up at this point…..many affairs going on within the band. Lots of drama and angst. A real soap opera. Amazingly, they were able to turn all that emotion into great songs, put out an album and tour it. Go Your Own Way was Buckingham talking to Nicks. Chain is Nicks answer back to Buckingham and is equally good, Nicks is an exceptional songwriter as well as performer.

Good Memories....I would "Dream" but everyone has heard of that song.....so I will recommend another, "Chain" by Fleetwood Mac.

You didn't go long enough reading the bio. After the 2nd lineup Mick Fleetwood bough on Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. There is where the band took off. Lindsey and Stevie were a couple at the time. The two of them wrote most of the songs. Lindsey is a top rated guartist and an underrated singer. Then you have Stevie Nicks one of the greatest voices of all time. So the band that you are hearing is Mick Fleetwood, John Mcvie, Christine Mcvie Lindsey and Stevie. Stevie also had a solo career. The only woman inducted twice in the Rock N Roll hall of fame.

The entire Fleetwood Mac "Rumors" album is utter fire. It took 3 years, a mountain of cocaine, and some switching of amorous partners within the group, but what came out of that mess is one of the all time best albums ever recorded (not just according to me, random internet person, but according to a whole lot of people.) There were times in the studio that they hated each other so much that they wouldn't even record together. It's all worth a listen. And you should look up the story of how it got made.

You showed an appropriate level of appreciation for the genius and musical mastery/majesty that this song and the group deserve. Hats off to you.
One more thing I would like you to take note of, and that is the incredible contribution of Mick Fleetwood's drumming. Try to imagine what it might sound like with an ordinary rock-band drummer - or no drummer. After the band broke up, Lindsay Buckingham went solo for a while, and as the writer, lead singer and lead guitarist on Go Your Own Way, he would perform this song live on tour. In the absence of Mick Fleetwood, he had three drummers on stage playing with him!

Groundbreaking rock and pop with women in the lead (although Go Your Own Way was Lindsey Buckingham's song). Three great songwriters, Lindsey, Christine McVie, and Stevie Nicks. Loved your Led Zeppelin reactions and also your love of the blues. Given that you liked this track too, I think you'd enjoy (understatement) the original Fleetwood Mac lineup which also includes Mick Fleetwood (drums) and John McVie (bass) from this recording. I would suggest "Black Magic Woman" by Fleetwood Mac, written by Peter Green and covered (badly) by Santana. If you watch the video you won't regret it (watch the 'Boston Tea Party' live version). Peter (RIP) is considered one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time. B.B. King said, "He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats."

Loved their self titled album and this one (Rumours), and of course, these being a couple of my most favorite albums, I feel they are the very best 2 albums they put out. I can't think of a single song on either album that isn't just stellar. They have other great albums too, before and after these 2, even before and after the Buckingham-Nicks invasion era of this band, and those should also be investigated, but these 2 albums changed music for me, for the industry and forever !!!

Rumours was the first “adult” full length album I obsessed over. (After years of listening to top 40 singles as a teen.). I listen to it when I’m in a nostalgic mood and I can still sing every word. You should listen to the whole album, for sure!

I bought this album the day it came out at the student union, played it through twice (LOUD) in my dorm room, and thereafter didn't see it again for a week as everyone I knew wanted to borrow it for a listen!

Fleetwood Mac under Peter green were a British blues band (a really bloody good one). By the time of rumours the line up was totally different except for the drummer mick fleetwood and they were a really brilliant pop rock band.
As a request please do Dire Straits sultans of swing the Alchemy live version I think you’ll really enjoy it.

Dude, really? I bought a used juke box in 1976, and the first two 45s that went into it were Fleetwood Mac "Go Your Own Way" and Kansas "Carry On Wayward Son". How anybody older than 12 hasn't heard this song a million times is beyond me.

SalvoG what your hearing in this sound is pain. Everyone in the band was breaking up with everyone else. Mick (drummer) was going thru a divorce, Stevie (girl) was breaking up with LIndsey (guy), Mick was divorcing Christine. Hence go your own way.

My favorite Mac attack of all. The huge soundscape which the arrangement and production achieve still sounds as fresh as it did in 1977. But, what has always grabbed me about this song is the drumming master class given by Mick Fleetwood. He just unleashes a performance which is beyond compare IMO. Lindsey Buckingham unleashes a fierce blast of personal emotion arising from the pain and anger he was feeling over the end of the relationship with Stevie Nicks. The entire “”Rumours” album, from which “Go Your Own Way” was the initial lead off single, is a masterpiece of pop music, beginning to end.

Lindsay Buckingham is lead vocals on this. His is my favourite voice and song writing in Fleetwood Mac.

Fleetwood Mac is a very deep rabbit hole. A band with three brilliant songwriters (Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie) in their classic era, and the genius Peter Green in the early blues years. If you're into amazing guitar solos, check out "I'm So Afraid (Live 1980, Cleveland, OH)", a relatively unknown song (even among fans) with Lindsey at his peak. But for a more traditional introduction, you should hear the following songs:
    - Dreams (1)
    - The Chain (2, 1, 3)
    - Landslide (1)
    - Don't Stop (2, 3)
    - Big Love (The Dance Live 1997) (2)
    - Sara (1)
    - I've Got A Mind To Give Up Living / All Over Again (live) (4)
    - Rhiannon (1)
    - You Make Loving Fun (3)
    - Silver Springs (1)
    - Albatross (4)
    - Gypsy (1)
    - Hold Me (2, 3)
    - Little Lies (3)
    - Need Your Love So Bad (4)
    - Everywhere (3)
    - As Long As You Follow (3)
    - Oh Well (4)
    - I Don't Want To Know (2, 1)
    - Say You Love Me (3)
    - Sisters Of The Moon (original version) (1)
    - Songbird (3)
    - Never Going Back Again (2)
    - Tusk (2)
    - Black Magic Woman (4)
    - Gold Dust Woman (1)
Main songwriters/lead singers: (1) Stevie Nicks, (2) Lindsey Buckingham, (3) Christine McVie, (4) Peter Green.
Also check out the brilliant song "Buckingham Nicks - Frozen Love", before they joined the band.

Hi, this just popped up on a recommendation (as RUclips knows this is my favourite song of all time) and I had a really good time watching your reaction. You went from a sense of 'this isn't going to be good' to 'this is amazing' in the space of a few minutes.
I was at University (in the UK) when this came out, and of course it was EVERYWHERE. I've been listening to this song for 45 years and I could never get tired of it. And it has something of a personal meaning for me too.
What propels it for me (and I'm not at all musical) is not just Lindsey's vocals and guitar, but Mick Fleetwood's drumming, which never gets enough credit in my opinion. The drumming he does as Lindsey is coming out of the big solo still send shivers down my spine.
I can see a lot of videos on the channel so will try to look over a few more!

For a long time, I heard, 'You can call it, another lonely day' as; 'You can call is annulled, but don't you dare' - knowing it was a breakup song. Mondegreens for Win! hahaha!
