    Having a bad day? You may be tempted to go straight back to bed, but for a more effective mood boost, do the opposite, go outside! Spending time in nature can do wonders for both physical and mental health. Studies have found that people who spend more time outside have lower levels of depression, stronger immune systems and a more positive outlook on life. Spending time exposed to natural daylight helps you sleep better at night, by resetting your body clock and syncing up your sleep and awake hormones. Exposure to sunlight also triggers processes in your body that generate vitamin D, an important vitamin for healthy bones, plus simply looking at the colour yellow can improve happiness. You don’t need to be spending hours outside either. As little as five minutes exercising outdoors, working in the garden, or even sitting in a plant-filled setting will benefit your mental health. So instead of just putting an out of office notification on, take it literally, get up and get out of your office!
