  • In this video I go over my 7x57 Mauser rifle and the load that I utilize in the rifle.
    00:30 - History of the 7x57 Mauser
    05:06 - My 7x57 load ballistics
    09:00 My 7x57 Mauser build
The 7x57 Mauser (275 Rigby) has a fantastic heritage dating back to 1892. Originally used by the Spanish Military, the 7x57 Mauser (275 Rigby) made a name for itself as a fantastic military round before gaining notoriety as a sporting rifle. In the continent of Africa, Bell used the 7x57 Mauser (275 Rigby) as his go-to rifle when culling elephants. In my 7x57 Mauser (275 Rigby, I use a 175 grain Nosler Partition at 2500fps. This gives my 7x57 Mauser (275 Rigby) a great trajectory out to 225 yards and is an effective hunting round at those rangers. My 7x57 Mauser (275 Rigby) has a 1:8 twist barrel, is built on a Winchester Model 70 Action, and has a Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42 scope.

I just picked up a Mauser 98 customized by Roy Vail and chambered in 7x57 Mauser. This video was helpful.

Enjoyed your video. I recently was able to pickup one of the 2013 run of Winchester Featherweight Super Grades in 7x57. Like you, I love the red butt pads vs black. I have the exact same rings and scope on my rifle as well.

I have two of the 7x57 SC/FN Featherweights, both are quite accurate with very low recoil. I have a Kahles 1.5-6 on the first and a Kahles 3-9 on the second. The lower powered scope is zeroed at 100yds and the higher one is zeroed at 200yds. The kicker is that both of them love PPU ammo, inexpensive and it hits on point!
I’m with you though about using heavy for caliber if I were going to Africa! 139/149g ammo is fine for whitetail anatomy but not as good for African game. Your heavy Nosler Partition choice would be mine also!
Great video, beautiful rifle! Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the kind comments! And there is nothing wrong with having a rifle that shoots cheap ammo well! Sounds like an awesome problem!

Informative video. The 7x57mm is a great round. I think it compares well with the 280 Remington which is a fantastic cartridge.

Thanks for watching! If a person is willing to load the 7x57 to modern pressures, it is right there with the 280 Remington no doubt.
