    Another great video Jason. Yep - you have a tough gig ahead with moving your Mum into a new, smaller place, which will be a change for both of you, as you’ll lose your “workshop” and storage space. Hope your Mum adapts to the new space and no longer being able to drive.
    Life is full of twists and turns isn’t it? Guess another factor is you having to pay for storage for all your stuff previously stored at Mums.
    Here’s a thought that might help fund it…
    Have you ever thought of doing the odd van life handyman thing while on the road? Plenty of van-lifers need small repairs/adaptions made to their vehicles and would be happy to pay cash for work to be done. IE fitting roof racks, installing side awnings etc. I’m currently looking at finding someone to do both these on my Toyota Rav 4. Also installing shelves, minor bodywork repairs, that kind of thing many women on the road would like done but don’t have the skills/tools to manage things like this themselves. You could advertise on van life sites etc. just a thought.
    But maybe you just want to chill while you’re on the road and not work on anybody else’s van!
    Good luck with the next few tricky months. Many of us are of a similar age where we have ageing parent who need our support and it is a bit of a tie. Go well!

      Thanks, it will certainly be a challenge going forward.
      A good suggestion there. I often see people in chat groups asking for help. Although, it does sound a little too much like a job 😂
      I'll see how I go. All my tools, I can keep but will need to thrift out some other stuff...mainly house things that I don't need until I settle down again. Definitely lose my workshop though, so Bunnings carparks might need to be it! 😂

    Another excellent video, Jason! I’ve been traveling in Queensland, so I haven’t been able to tune in as often. I’m really sorry to hear about your mother-going through that must be incredibly tough for both of you. I’ve been in a similar situation recently, and I know how overwhelming downsizing can be, especially when "you're it"! It might be worth considering getting some help with it. Whatever you decide, best of luck 🤗

    I feel for you re: your mum. I've just been through that in the last year, including the loss of license (change, change, change), so I don't envy you at all! The problem now is travelling, for us, gets difficult due to her health issues so we can't escape as much as we'd like. Recently, we have managed to book a month at the end of the year to do some van life in Japan (in a vehicle similar to yours - size wise anyway); but that's only after being at home for 6 months and only doing short stints away in the caravan. We're retired too.
    Thanks for the video, and the overview of your blue home. Very insightful!
    Keep your chin up - there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. That's what I keep telling myself anyway...

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks Tony. Sounds like you have it tougher than me. We'll see how it all plays out!
      Vanning around Japan will be interesting. I'd love to do similar in Vietnam, but would probably need to build my own van over there before I could head off....and then getting a driver's licence is not straight forward.

    • @Tony-f5q

      @@MakingStuffGoingPlaces Before the whole mum thing I'd travelled around oz twice in two years so can't complain really. But it was pretty hard adjusting back to being still in a home.
      The Japan thing was meant to be a prelude to van life there for a year. That's all changed now because we've decided to go to Europe and van life there for a couple of years. Japan will have to wait but at least by that time I should be more fluent in the language!
      I won't be building a van though! Certainly not my forte.

    Great review of the van, sounds like a good choice. So sorry to hear about your mum's situation. Hopefully the move to new location will go smoothly. Hi Jason, What about getting a storage container, putting your tools in that and putting the container on a friend's property such as a farm? I wouldn't trust storage units because mine was broken into three times in two years.The perpetrator(s) got through an electronic gate and used an angle grinder on all the padlocks along the whole row of units. We, the unit renters, were all devastated.
    I am sorry to hear your mother is having to make such big changes in her life. It is a huge adjustment for her and you. I hope it all works out smoothly.

I’m just adding 2 single beds that lift up so I can store things underneath, a little filing cabinet for more storage that I can also cook on top of with my gas cooker, & I have a little Kings 85L upright fridge & some slide out pantry shelves above it. I’ll just have a 160 watt solar panel & battery & a little inverter for power but I also just got a Bluetti power station for backup. Hey Jason. Another good video, thanks mate. One tip that might work on your vehicle re: the rain sensing wipers... in vehicles I've owned with this feature (VW), adjusting the intermittent dial on the stalk when in auto mode adjusts the sensitivity of the sensor in the windscreen, just as it does the frequency when in manual intermittent mode. That is, you can adjust how much rain is detected on the windscreen before the wipers kick in. I hope that makes sense? Cheers mate!

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces

    Sorry to hear about your mum, some big adjustments coming up for you both. (Hopefully yours will be temporary and the moving painless and seamless). Good run through on the van. Mine is 2017 model and I think that has enough gizmos lol. I did go try the deadlock, worked, never knew that, thanks! 🙂 and I envy your auto side mirror folding. Some of those things would annoy me, like you said re the braking and not the full screen. I use my cruise control but haven't ventured to the Limiter, might try it out, advantageous. Interesting what you said about 'over servicing'. I tend to go by the mileage (usually over) and not the date. I've had my Ford van since the day before Covid lockdowns 🙄 (only 20,000km, dealer used it) and happy with it 🤞 oh the paint job could be sturdier but that's all newer vehicles these days. Do you suffer stone chips above your front windscreen? I have some slight surface rust! Freaked me out when I saw it lol. And your custom paint job 👍 All the best with your upcoming 'sorting'...remember to breathe 🙃 . You don't have an excuse to not finish your van now... haha.

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  Месяц назад

      Thanks Pauline.
      2017 will be the 2.2 engine, so different service intervals. Going by the mileage is the right thing to do, but I would try not to over do the mileage for the oil changes, particularly if it is longer than 12 mths.
      No stone chips so far on mine. Also not much in my last van, maybe a few on the bonnet after 60,000km. Just depends where it's been driven I guess. Definitely keep on top of touching up the paint to stop the rust growing.
      Yours should have electric folding mirrors too, I think.....turn the mirror adjusting knob to the centre, then push the knob straight down to fold and again to unfold. Let me know if it works. 😊
