Fishing tips for beginners

  • Some beginner fishing tips. They say a bad day fishing is better than a good day working. Such was the case for Graeme, when he went after a big Catfish, but as usual ended up getting sidetracked with other species. But he saved the blank by changing tactics and baits, trying to work out exactly what the species were that were making all the bubbles! Then he goes back the following afternoon still trying to fathom out why the fishing was so tough. It just goes to show that its not always successful even when you think conditions are fairly perfect for a bit of rod-bending action. That's why it’s called fishing, and not catching. An hours film, but there are plenty of tips and tricks in there that might just help you out when the fish get a case of lockjaw! Enjoy.

    I'm just watching a video of you fishing for catfish with soft dog food using what looks like carp gear. I'm trying to ask if I need a catfish rod and reel or can I use a carp rod and a shimmano baitrunner reel?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  Год назад

      Thats all I ever use for Catfish ,regular Carp gear. Does the job for me with Cats to about 40/50. Obviously if you are going to 100lb plussers you might want heavier gear.

    Sweet evening ahead, chilling after work, with a new TA video to watch.
    Sweet!
    Graham, or anyone else for that matter, could you suggest a decent rod bag to ferry around down here over the beautiful Cornish rocks and coast? I'm going after bass mostly, spinning lures, and really don't want my rods getting bashed and scratched. Smallest is a 7 foot 6 inch ultra light, through to a twelve-foot beach/bait rod. Any and all suggestions GRATEFULLY received. I have four rods and reels in total and would like to be ready to react to any situation which might land me a fish for my families dish! Thanks.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  Год назад +2

      I have no idea but you could make something from a length of plumbing tubing ,maybe even sink waste size if a small rod and the butt ring goes inside the tube. Failing that try the tackle shop .Or if you want all 4 rods in one tube try a length of carpet tube (from a carpet shop,they roll the carpet on them,should give you one for nothing).These are reinforced cardboard and you can saw them to the length you require. A bit of Duck tape either end and a bit of rope or strap for carrying and off you go. I used both methods(including soil pipe with is bigger diameter) for transporting my rods all over the world when I did a lot of foreign fishing. Hope that gives you some ideas.

      @@TAFishing Fantastic ideas, Graham, and being a carpenter, I come across those materials EVERY day!
      I saw your carp rod holder and thought, _“oooooh, gotta gets me one of those”_ , when in reality I could save the cash and reuse/recycle something that would else wise end up in a skip!
      If you ever fancy taming Cornish waters, Sir, there is forever a place at our table for you!
      Tight lines.

    Man Graeme, it's too bad you can't use "live" bait fish, any kind of small fish like 4,5,6 inches long, put a pretty good size hook through the back just under the dorsal fin somewhere and use a big enough float to keep the bait up and kicking, I'd just about bet those catfish would eat something alive, that's bred into any catfish really, and live fish I would imagine is right on top of their menu, but unfortunately I don't think you can do that over there but would be cool to find out, right? But you really don't need it, I've seen you catch catfish on a little bit of everything, almost. You guys can't use crayfish over there either, can you? Mmm mmm mmm, what a shame. Oh well, you dah man, you'll catch them eventually. 🤘✌️, Beautiful small lakes over there though, which are just paylakes to me, I know they do things a lot different there too, still I sure would love to come over there and spend a few weeks or something, in beautiful weather that is, oh well just a pipe dream for me. But I get to watch you and several other fellas over there, fish!! Haha, I would be cussing like a sailor too!

    • @borderlands6606
      @borderlands6606 Год назад

      Live baits fell from fashion in the UK, but we used to use little else for predators. Some fisheries still allow it. The issue is anglers bringing their own bait fish from other waters, and spreading disease. Clubs that allow live baits insist bait fish are caught from the same water, which is a hit and miss affair. There's also the fish care issue and PR problem of families explaining why that naughty man has a pet wriggling on the end of a hook. Sea fish dead baits gained traction in the 1960s, though some anglers undoubtedly used dead baits before and the idea goes back to Dame Julian Berners in 1496. There's nothing new under the sun. I'm pretty sure a French company advertised hair rigs in the 1920s or 30s.

      I just catch what I can on the day. but its true,I soon get bored and distracted. I think it comes from always having to rush to squeeze in a session between working.If I had a full day it might be different. Probably the same for many who are shackled by work. Its worse on a sunny day when you can't get away.
