    Every time I watch one of these I think "man, he makes that look so easy"

    Use a magic eraser sponge on your new palettes for a few minutes to fix the weird paint beading on your mixing wells.

    this is my first and only set of watercolors and I've taken it hiking, camping and backpacking. so many good plein air memories and sketches made over the past 6 years. Recently upgraded to larger Rosa Gallery landscape set because I was struggling with blending and muddy colors with the Cotman but that is more than likely a paper (cheap paper sucks!) and skill issue. funny everyone harps on the white but I use it - probably too much

      Yep, good paper makes a difference! I also use white in my watercolor paintings when necessary....and gouache too.

    Thanks! I have this palette, I’m on my second one. The tips were really helpful as was your swatching. That intense blue makes more sense now.

      I have at least two of them. It's worth the money just for the tiny palette. 🙂

      I think it's worth buying them just for the plastic palette! 🙂

      It's the perfect size, I like to use it with one of those pocket sized sketchbooks so I can sketch anywhere I go.

    Really useful video for a complete beginner such as myself. I just bought this box and wondered if I’d made a mistake but after watching your viseo I feel much more confident. Thank you.

      Thanks, I'm glad it helped! The Cotman series is a good beginner kit and it's definitely better than the generic watercolors you might find at a craft store. I also really like how portable it is.

    Great video. Thanks for the detail. As a brand new student of this process it was most helpful.

    Excellent review! Thank you. I'm from Canada I saw this product at the art store but passed by thinking that their maybe something be more portable with less color choices. Thank you for the informative video.

    Great video! Informative and accessible. I’m also a fan of WN Cotman on-the-go. They mix well and are easy to work with. The sap green can be bit unnatural looking but easily remedied with a tiny bit of cool red or warm blue. I usually remove the white straight away and replace it with mauve or something closer to quin rose 😊

      Thanks! I love how small the palette is….you can take it anywhere. Yeah, I figure that pan of white should last me at least a decade. 😂 Even when I do use white, I prefer to use a tube of white because it covers better.

    Thanks!! I found this very helpful, because I am planning to buy a WN cotman set, I'm just not sure which one, but I think this is the one!

      You're welcome! They also make the cotman set in tube form. I like the pans for convenience when I want to sketch outdoors.

    Great video, it's really helpful! By the way the viridian hue pigment is a phthalo green pigment! PG7 is phthalo green blue shade and PG36 is phthalo green yellow shade, so they're just different variants : )

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I agree, I would prefer it if they just called it phthalo green yellow shade. The pigment codes are really helpful when brands have different names for the same pigment.

    I found out that this brand in general is amazing for true to dry results. They really dont fade but lifting is hard and they dont bleed/ spread out. They stay put where you lie it on the paper so these are great for details. If you want that loose look maybe a daniel smith which i have seen to me dry lighter but they just bloom across wet paper and blends well into others. So i think its depends on the type of style or effect that you want. This was my first little kit and got it a 50% coupon at the craft store. Its very convenient if you sketch then color in this is perfect. I think the ideal is pocket size to your sketch pad would also be pocket size hence the little brush. These pans i notice dont have that plastic look when they dry if yoh applied heavy. I noticed tubed paints that look like dull plasticky to me that i dont like.

      Cotman is probably the only student grade watercolor paint that I would use. Thanks for sharing your results!

    • @ChrisBreier

      I usually carry it in a zipper pouch which you can find at any art supply store or craft store. 🙂

    I'm finally thinking of getting a high grade watercolour set like this after 2 and a bit years of using a cheap Prang watercolour set! This is probably the only good (imo) video review of this, the others talk too much of other things.. are you able to switch out the pans?
    Thanks for the video :)

    • @ChrisBreier
      @ChrisBreier  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Amanda! Yes, you can replace the pans when you use up the paint or if you just want to replace one of the colors. These should work better than the Prang set. Cotman are the Winsor and Newton line of student grade watercolors. At some point you should try out a pan of professional watercolor to see if you like it.

    I really wanna know which size of tablet you use, is it small,medium or large?

      By "tablet" do you mean the size of the paper?
