I had the opportunity to hang with James and the gang at Onyx flying FPV. Not only are they one of the sexiest and best performance ebike and hand built with excellent quality control. But the passion fills the room. And James is legit the coolest fuckin boss in the world. He is changing what a workplace can be.
Grit Red So, I checked the price of this harness had too high a margin on it. and decided a cheap quick fix was a nice set of handlebar sliders to extend the bar for comfort and in case the bike falls etc. Then I added a throttle control thumb throttle you wrap/srap around the throttle took 2 minutes. no electrical change and now I have a thumb throttle and wider more comfortable bar.
top notch! Dude, I have been wanting to go to a thumb throttle. It’s great to see someone else had that idea and they like it! totally agree. Here is my example I got in an accident I got some road rash but the bike was fine. The steering wheel turned fast due to a hard rubber maker like a speed bump. So I tried to correct and almost got the wheel straight but the wheel turning also meant I pulled and turned the throttle getting a grasp on the bar. that’s all it took the bike started taking off before I could loosen my grasp. down I went.
Hey wutsup! Well first, glad to hear you are okay and only came out with some road rash. Coming from my Super73, I just become more accustomed to riding with a thumb throttle and gaining a lot of riding experience along the way. I didn't use the full twist Domino throttle for long but for some reason I never felt that 100% confidence that I usually feel while riding. I also whisky throttled at a stop light which made me even more anxious. Once I installed the thumb throttle I almost instantly gained my confidence back and am able to maneuver much faster and responsive then when I was using the Domino. It might just be all in my head but I do think being able to control throttle with just your thumb while gripping and braking with your other fingers is much more conducive to hand/eye coordination. I can only speak from my experience on ebikes and not someone who has experience with a full twist throttle all their lives.
Can you please tell me how you installed that headlight? What parts do I need besides the headlight? Where did you get the harness to connect it to your bike? And with that harness was it plug and play or did you have to solder wires to get it to work? Where do you plug it in?
Basically I removed the stock headlight and disconnected the 3 wire leads. I soldered in an H4 harness amzn.to/3gT53ks and plugged that into the headlight. amzn.to/2T525QS
Try to get an allen key in there to lift up the grip then just spray a little WD-40 or spray silicone inside. It'll loosen it up real quick and it dries off when you put it back on.
Question in your opinion.. whats the best bike to buy with a $5,000 budget. Could go a little over but not much. Want a top speed in the 40s higher is great but not needed. Range only 30miles a day max Do want dual sport on and off road.. wheelies and some stunting. Aftermarket parts available
Great work!!! It's such an awesome machine. The design, the speed, and the stealth of this bike is out of this world.... I'm waiting on mine. The guys at Onyx have been great!!!
So I’m new to ebikes looking to buy my first one… I’m confused I thought throttles or half throttles were the way to go? Is a thumb throttle better than a twist? I can see maybe a twist being less precise than a thumb basically if having more control is the objective. I’m just trying to buy once, cry once
Regarding the led headlight wiring (blue, black, white), what colors connects with the red, yellow and black wires on the onyx? I’m trying to install same headlight on my onyx. Thank you!
Honestly, it's been a long while, don't remember exactly. You can easily just hand twist the wires together and test to determine which one does what. Black is negative, so black to black. The other two is just process of elimination. GL!
Hey, I was watching your CTY2 review and picked one up! I was wondering if you could please tell us how you installed the thumb throttle on your RCR? or just lmk if it was a plug and play or some wire splicing had to happen (I am by no means an electrician lol)
I basically used the DatShop Domino Harness and just spliced a thumb throttle on it. You may be able to hit them up and ask if they can wire in a thumb throttle for you. datshopnyc.com/shop/p/dat-domino-harness
How is the thumb throttle? Can you modulate it to any power level smoothly? Was it plug and play or did you have to find connectors etc to make it work? thanks for your video pretty slick production!
Probably the best performance mod I made. :) I can modulate the power level smoothly because I'm using only my thumb and not my entire wrist. This means maneuvers and leans are easier for me because my hand speed is not being consumed by the full twist and my other fingers can control the grip and brakes much quicker. Not exactly plug and play but close enough. I used DatShopNYC's Domino Harness but instead of using the Domino connector, I just spliced the throttle wires into the harness.
Having trouble finding the links again. Could you help. I am just replacing the headlight but I forget all the pieces I need to purchase for it. Like the harness, need new switch?
So I ordered the light kit from dat light kit from them on Instagram and the dude barely replies and I sent him the money through PayPal yesterday and the guy barely responds how long did it take for you to get the lights to come in when you ordered them

I was thinking about the throttle mood and was ready to buy but I needed to replace switches then too. can you tell me about your power and kill switches?
Yeah so I bought DatShopNYC's Domino Throttle Harness and just spliced my throttle where the Domino connector is. Here's what the harness install looks like. ruclips.net/video/fLWCozMdLWs/видео.html I'd hit up Alvin Bows at DatShopNYC and just see if he'd make you a harness minus the Domino connector.
@@RunPlayBack thank you so much I appreciate it although it is not the same mirror that's featured on your bike that one is out of stock although these are usually highly cloned products so I will scour the internet they're probably on there somewhere lol

RUclips is taking forever to process the HD. I think it's because of all the GoPro footage. It should convert to HD at some point today. It's super annoying I know.
Thumb throttle is definitely good for anyone wants to get used to this bike before moving into twist throttle. Pedal assist would be a little tricky because the ergonomics of this bike make pedaling kind of awkward which could effect safety. The pedals are really just for show.
