Hi @franklinvanreem! I'm not sure of a way to turn an arbitrary line into a guide. If you need a horizontal or vertical line, you can add a guide with the View -> Guides menu. For angles, you can also try the View -> Grid and Axis options. If those don't work, you can also use snapping with your line. Hope this helps!
Hello Trent, recently started using Affinity Design and I noticed that fine (background) line It's even there when applying some strokes on the outside. It is quite annoying because it forces you to do something sometimes that alters the overal effect of what you want to achieve. I hope they eventually work this out and implement a solution. Thx for the great tutorial.
Hello Trent, Very Nice...Enjoying your videos. Question can you make a video on how to use grids to make monogram logo designs with Affinity? I have searched but could not find any for affinity in a step by step format like your videos. Thanks again for the vids!
Hi Lime, yes, that can sometimes happen due to anti-aliasing and pixel alignment. There is some discussion about it in this thread. Some people have solved it for horizontal and vertical alignment. But if aligning diagonally, you may need to slightly overlap the shapes to solve it: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/147298-thin-space-between-adjacent-objects-fixable/ Hope this helps! How do you enable objects snapping to their edges perfectly? Mine just doesn't seem to do it 💀 it's driving me crazy. I've tried so many options in the settings.
Shouldn't Serif address that line issue at some point? Someone in the forums told me that it can be avoided by making a few changes to snapping: Non-integer values in the objects will cause this issue. Use Pixels as the unit of measurement. Use the following snapping settings: - Set Move by whole pixels to off. - Set Force pixel alignment to on. - Have snap to pixel grid turned on. - Have every other snapping option turned off
Hi @johnpnj, yes, I wish it was easier to do. If I remember correctly, the method you describe works, but you really need to make sure all those settings are enabled right when you create the document and before you put any elements on it. It's been awhile, but I remember having problems if I tried to do that in the middle of doing other stuff.
@TechnicallyTrent I agree. It's definitely a pain. It's also something I never noticed in Photoshop (I could be wrong). I hope they address this at some point, because otherwise it's really a fantastic software suite.
Yes, it can be tricky. I haven't tried it lately, but one option may be to rotate them both to their original orientation, snap them, and then rotate back to the rotated position.

Thank you, very helpful. Can I draw a line with the pen tool, and turn that line into a guide? Thanks

One way to overcome this issue is to click on the cog icon next to blend options and change the default anti-aliasing from inherit to force off.
Great info - Thanks Trent!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi is it possible to snap two borders one inside another of different width? Thanks for another helpful video.
