The Count of Monte Cristo is going down this summer. I've had this great edition for several years. I think I'll count it as 2 books at almost 1100 pages.
I'd say it counts as three books! 😬 That was the first book I read when we moved to Connecticut and I have such fond memories of reading it. It had pretty good pacing from what I recall. Enjoy!
Hi, Barbara! How cool that you read it for book club. It feels like a cautionary tale now that some want to roll back the progress that has been made in women's equality and rights.
Love your channel! I remember reading The Women's Room a lifetime ago, probably in the early 1980's. I love that you are reading Fellowship Point together. I really loved that one. Have a wonderful summer with these delightful books!
Have fun with the Discovery of Witches - look up the names mentioned like Brigit Bishop. I loved it, Read the books, watched the series and read the books again.
I am not specifically participating in the challenge but a review of the books I have pre-selected for The Buzzwordathon Challenge for June, July, and August are all over 400 pages: June - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (590 pages); July - One Hundred Years of Solitude (417 pages); and, August - Sparks Like Stars (448 pages) so I guess I am participating
Well that worked out well for you! We both love The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The Buzzwordathon Challenge sounds fun--what a great way to discover new books or look at those on your shelves in a different way.
I am so happy that your channel popped up on my feed. Nothing against other RUclips channels but most of the books on their lists are just a little too young for me. This is going to be fun!
Great episode, Book Cougars! I also have had Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat on my shelf since it came out and have never picked it up. I hadn’t thought about getting the audiobook, great suggestion. I found Fellowship Point to be a long book that didn’t feel long. It’s a great book for a buddy read. I loved it. 💕
Did you watch the Netflix series for Salt Fat Acid Heat? It’s a wonderful companion to the cookbook. I’ve made the buttermilk brined chicken and it’s delicious.
Thanks for this! All of the books interest me. Chasing Beauty grabbed my attention because I watched a documentary about the museum heist. Fascinating!
Totally fascinating! Kind of unbelievable that the case hasn't been solved. You'd think someone would offer a brag that would get leaked so the investigators would have a new trail to follow. Perhaps we read/watch too much mystery.
This came up on my recommended feed, so glad the algorithm suggested you two! Subscribed. 💗 and how fun, I love the idea of big book summer. I love big books!
Hi ladies! I wasn’t aware of this challenge but I’ve just started Les Misérables by Victor Hugo and my copy in Frendh is over 1300 pages so I think it’s going to be my big book project for this summer! 😅😂
The Women's Room was a made for tv movie , don't remember the year starring Lee Remick and Colleen Dewhurst and Patty Duke. It was fantastic. I VHS recorded it at the time and later bought, for 10 dollars at the thrift store a tv with a built in VHS player and watch it often. I have a paperback copy of the book, of course never read, but now I am inspired 19:16 to pick it up
Oh, wow! We didn't know about the TV movie. Will definitely have to try to track that down. One of the used bookstores in the area still sells VHS. It'll be interesting to hear what you think of the book if you read it since you've enjoyed the movie so much.
I'm very intrigued by the Isabella Stewart Gardner book. Go, go, go to the museum in Boston. I thoroughly enjoyed it but it was many years ago and they were in the process of remodeling (adding a cafe, revamping galleries, etc.). The best part of the ISG Museum is that you're able to see fine art in its natural setting, as it were. You see the rooms of her home and the art is hanging on her walls, just as it was when she first acquired it. Think I'll check out that book from the library.
Just subscribed! I love your screen name! I'm going to be reading 3 big books: Spin by Robert Charles Wilson, Clan of the Cavebear by Jean M. Auel, & Empress Dowager Cixi: The Concubine Who Launched Modern China by Jung Chang. Favorite long books: Game of Thrones by GRRM, Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, The Secret History by Donna Tartt, Wild Swans by Jung Chang, Invisible Child by Andrea Elliott, & The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore
Those are some impressive books! Thanks for helping grow our TBRs. I/chris am thinking about reading The Secret History this summer. I tried it years ago and didn't get into it but I think it just wasn't the right time.
Chris, I KNEW you would say The Women’’s Room. I remember it so well! Our book discussion at the time suggested using a mirror and getting to know a certain part of our bodies.Amazing! Love your chats!!!
Love it!! And thank you! I remember a scene from Fried Green Tomatoes by Fannie Flagg where the women take out their mirrors to explore themselves. --chris
I just finished this phenomenal new book of fairy tales entitled Sillies, Fancies, and Trifles - it was phenomenal and I think you'd love it. It would go with the lovely recommendations here. Keep up the beautiful videos :)
This will be my second year participating. I am going to be reading East of Eden. If I finish before the challenge is over I will read A Gentleman in Moscow. I should also finish A Discovery of Witches which I A enjoying.
Great video! I love y’all’s podcast (am new to it) and didn’t realize you have a RUclips channel, too. I love big books as well, but haven’t decided what to read for this challenge. Deborah Harkness is coming out with a new book in this series this summer. I’ve had The Women’s Room on my TBR forever - need to get to it.

I read Fellowship Point last summer as my big book. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting but I did enjoy it. I also just finished The Covenant of Water ( audio version) It was a LONG listen but engaging!
Hi Cheryl! Glad to hear you still enjoyed Fellowship Point. It's interesting that several people have said it wasn't what they were expecting but they still enjoyed it. Phew,
I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did. I'll do one "big book". A Court of Thorn and Roses seems to be really popular with a lot of people, so I'm going to try that one. It's 419 pages.
I've already read several big books this year, but of course I must do the Big Book Summer Challenge! This year I selected a book that I have wanted to read for a long time since everyone just seems to love it. My pick is Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I am very eager to start reading it.

I have 2 overlapping TBR big books as y’all. The Makioka Sisters and Fellowship Point. I’m leaning toward Fellowship Point first. Also Discovery of Witches is terrific. I would love to continue the series. I really loved that first book. By the way, Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat was done as a docuseries on Netflix that was excellent! Highly recommend.
Discovery of Witches is an awesome book! Professor Harkness has her 5th book in the series coming out on the 16th of July - The Blackbird Oracle. Can't wait!
Just found your channel! Love your selections! I just read two big books Fourth Wing and Iron Flame. It was ok! More for younger readers I felt. Love your variety! I’m thinking of doing big book. Got to read Women’s room!
