      It’s not Motown. It was under the Gordy record rather then Motown.

      @@channelthree9424 it’s still Motown even if label said Gordy. The labels were created so more Motown could be played on radio as at time radio stations had restrictions on how much music they could play on a specific label so Motown and stax and other companies created subsidiary labels to get around it. Martha Reeves in her many interviews talks about being a Motown artist and member of Motown family.

    • @denpea-mm8zr
      @denpea-mm8zr 3 дня назад +2

      @@channelthree9424 Labels like Gordy and Tamla were subsidiaries, all owned and controlled by the parent company, Motown Record Corporation. I don't think it's incorrect to call Martha & The Vandellas a Motown artist. It's like saying the Beatles were not EMI artists in the UK, because they were on the EMI subsidiary label Parlaphone.

    Martha worked as Berry Gordy's secretary at Hitsville in Detroit. She filled in as a backup singer for Marvin Gaye when a singer didn't show up, and she got a session after Mary Wells didn't show for a lead vocal.
    Three more Martha And The Vandellas songs: "Heat Wave" "Dancin' In The Street" "Jimmy Mack."
    After Gordy bugged out of Detroit, Martha tried to make it on another label. She never matched her Motown success. She was, though, a Detroit City Councilwoman for several years.

    Fun production fact: At Motown, when it came time to press the master acetate of the record the musicians would stand next to the machine that was literally cutting the acetate and add handclaps, tambourines, other percussion instruments and even vocals as the needle was imprinting the sound from the tape. Those sounds would end up on the "top" of the mix, which is why Motown records have that punch.

    Yes, finally. These ladies had a bunch of hits. Check out love is like a heat wave, dancing in the street, Jimmy, Mack and Martha’s favorite song. My baby loves me with the four Tops back, and Martha and the Vandellas up. Check out the version of this where Martha and the Vandellas are singing this song going through the Detroit Ford plant while they’re making a 1965 mustang convertible. One of the first music videos.

    J & Amber you've reacted to so many songs and we TY. You're always kind and respectful and you say something positive even when you're not all that fond of the song. The names Shondells, Shirelles, Vandellas all sound a bit similar. You can't recall them all. You guys are great.

    Martha Reeves and the Vandellas did the most famous song "Dancing in the Street." It was a great song! You did react to a cover by Jagger and Bowie but that in no way compares to the original.
