It is sweet to see Texas dog Trinity (named after the nuclear bomb location?) and her new best friends going to Alaska to see the biggest mosquitos she will ever see. Hope the drive is fun, stay safe and healthy. I had a girl friend years ago that lived on the other side of a large swamp, my dad had worked building the roads and he said they sank a lot of trees into the swamp to make a base to start building the road. The road went like a roller coaster up and down all long it. I hope the roads are not to bad for you guys and even if you pull over for semi trucks you can still get a rock into the windshield. The rocks come off their tires.
Stay tuned next week for windshield updates. 😂 As to Trinity we were working at an oil rig site run by a company called "Trinity" when she came into our lives...Good thing it wasn't a Haliburton site. 😂 -J

Hi guys, I just watched your last Alaska video, I am so happy you made it there and I was in awe of the scenery on the highway you shared, it was an awesome video. I bet it was even more incredible actually experiencing it first hand. It certainly inspired me to go back to Alaska again and I am planning a trip for next year now with my bestie from my years on Cruise ships that's where we met in Alaska and worked for 5 years together. Have the best time ever, stay safe. 😊💖

Not sure if we're going to hit it on the way back or not, but our first NP of Alaska is Wrangle St. Elias so we needed to start trending southward toward Valdez. -J
You are most likely deep in Alaska already. Hopefully everything went smooth. The road report in the video was very useful. Adding to your Fun Facts…North American Van Lines (I worked at the headquarters in Ft. Wayne, IN for 30 Years) was the first and for many years the only van lines that traveled the ALCAN highway. If you do excursions in Alaska, the average we found in 2019 was $500 a person for a day. I can't imagine what the costs are now. Expect that 13K to disappear quickly even if you just do 2 or 3. Look for free stuff and there is plenty of it. The frost heave roads will get worse as you go and especially in Alaska. The road construction and fires are also the worst there. I warned you about the dirsty rig and I can say so far, you ain't seen nothing yet. ;-) Enjoy the journey.
For sure for sure! Especially if a plane is involved. 😂 We've done a good bit of planning ahead and we're only looking at taking 2-4 "big" excursions. We've got a few smaller ones planned as well. First one is coming up this Monday: Full day guided glacier hike and it's costing us less than $400 total. -J
The $15K is specifically for: Excursions Fuel Buffer For our normal budget we have Kalyn's business that she has been building back, a client that I work for, and this youtube channel. If a major emergency came up and it was more than we could handle in our budget we would take it out of the $15K and do fewer excursions. -J

Just subbed two days ago, and I love you guys. Great chemistry, and the camera loves you. Nothing can stop you now! Keep up the good work and safe travels!
I gave poutine a shot in Canmore....And either I didn't get it from the right place or it just doesn't agree with me. I didn't like how the texture made my fries soggy. 😭 I was excited too because cheesy fries are awesome! -J
@nashdiy8570 - A lot of the newer models are having frame issues. Generally (very broad brush statement here) not built as solidly as some older RVs - especially if you plan on putting some weight in it (solar panels, batteries, extra water, etc.) That said - if you ARE wanting new there are a couple of brands that you might be interested in. @WildRVLife has a Brinkley and it seems to be quite solid. Alliance also seems to be quite solid. If you aren't planning on boondocking and are just going from RV park to RV park some of the issues of durability might not be as much of an issue for you. Now - whether you get old or new - just do research on that specific brand and year. You won't find anything that's perfect (ours sure isn't) but you may find some deal breakers. And IMHO....don't buy anything that was built under the umbrella of Thor. Thor buys brands and then ruins them. Just my 2 cents! -J
@@nashdiy8570 If you will move it a lot and pushing the weight on it you should search "frame flex" and watch the many videos on the subject. If it will not be moving weekly it is not as big a deal. It is not just one brand of RV or just one trailer frame maker it is from trying to cut weight on the bigger rigs and possibly cheap metal in the frames.
We did! Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to do it justice because we crammed another travel thing in just before getting to Valdez but the place is BEAUTIFUL! -J
Hey Mike! Thanks for your concern. As to the space between them, whenever we have missed a week (just 2 times in the past more than 6 months) we let people know on our channel community page: www.youtube.com/@OpenRoading/community As to the video length they always vary from video to video. We try to have a minimum of 20 minutes up to 30 minutes. Of our past 8 normal videos, 1/2 of them were over 30 minutes. Of the 8 before that, (and skipping the 2 bonus videos) only 2 were over 30 minutes. That's not a defense of our length, your comment just made me curious. Generally you can expect our videos to be somewhere between 20-30 minutes long...sometimes longer. -J
So glad you enjoy them! It truly is our hope that they bring a smile and hopefully a few laughs along the way. The BIGGEST compliment we get is people watching any video from start to finish. Makes our day because it means it was entertaining and fun! -J

Nice! We're a little ahead of this video (Left Dawson Creek on June 9th) but we're going to be pausing in a few places so it wouldn't surprise me if you catch us!
FYI We're more real time on Instagram since less editing time is involved. 😂 -J
Enjoyed the fun facts. TNX.
Awesome! We had fun editing the game show graphics. 😂 -J
Cool , looking forward to the trip.
It's trucking right along! -J
As to Trinity we were working at an oil rig site run by a company called "Trinity" when she came into our lives...Good thing it wasn't a Haliburton site. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading I don't remember that from the video, but my memory is not what it once was. She could have been Hali if it was Haliburton. I get the humor though. I hope Alaska is going well.
I don't remember if we said where we got the name from. The company we were working for at the time was "Guard 1" so I'm not sure if we ever said the name of the oil company. -J
I have a brother in Palmer and brother in Wasilla it's a different life up there yes stay away from big rigs the people up their power down and drive fast they drive hard but they know the roads I think a lot of them do it safely in their own ways but you know with all the tourists the locals not all of them but some get resentful unfortunately in a certain way so just be safe you both are so outrageously funny and I just I love I absolutely love and look forward to your uploads every week thank you so much❤
Will do! Yeah, we lived in a tourist area in Florida and it's normal for locals to get annoyed at the tourists. But they'd be looking for work if the tourists never came...so it's a give and take. 🙂 -J
We’re about half way through our Alaska trip. Presently in Valdez. It’s been amazing! We stayed at Mile 0 also!
Nice! We'll be there early next week. -J
Just arrived in Valdez.....Kalyn may have to convince me to leave. This place is BEAUTIFUL! -J
Another great video. You guys seem to be off to an awesome start! Looking forward to the rest of the journey. You guys definitely have to have some poutine in CA
Thank you!! I (Joseph) tried the poutine in Canmore....I wasn't impressed. I think it was how the gravy made the fries soggy that did it in for me. 😬 -J
That was a clean vehicle by Alaska standards. 😂
Hope the road treats you well
Haha! Ya know what - you are right! I need to give myself a break.
Oh that is soooo cool. When it happens please snap a photo and send it our way. I know it's a year away but just to be a small part of that would be incredible. 🤗
Thanks so much for coming along for the ride! -J
Good luck! and Happy trails! Honk twice when you pass the Wasilla Walmart, my neck of the woods...
I'm sure we'll probably stop and shop. 😂 Stopped at a random convenience store and a bag of chips was $7.85 😵
Superb video!
Thanks! -J
Great video! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! -J
Again, enjoyed your video! Can’t wait to be on the Al-Can one day. Enjoying your journey! Stay safe and have fun!!
Thank you so much for watching and rooting for us! -K
Wish you were heading to Delta! Will be praying for a safe and enjoyable journey.🫎
Not sure if we're going to hit it on the way back or not, but our first NP of Alaska is Wrangle St. Elias so we needed to start trending southward toward Valdez. -J
@@OpenRoading I did some kayaking in Valdez back in 2007. It's beautiful country. Enjoy!
Just be sure you are back before November
Stop stressing! You're gonna be fine 🙂
Haha! I think this must be directed at Kalyn. 😂 Just wait till next week! 😁 -J
Did you see the milepost in Dawson Creek
We did not! -J
@@OpenRoadingdarn you were so close to it when you were at the Visitors Center!
I'm glad to watch this trip.. because I will never do it!!!!
So glad you're coming along virtually! -J
You always have peanut butter 😂😅🤣
Cute.
You are most likely deep in Alaska already. Hopefully everything went smooth. The road report in the video was very useful. I will making the same drive in Aug so using your videos to do a little scouting. By the way if you run into any issue in the Anchorage area and need anything let me know. Thanks again
Will do! We're planning on doing a meetup (details still pending) in the greater Anchorage area in late July. Would love to meet you. If you can't make that maybe we can make other arrangements! -J
Yay ❤🎉🎉❤😂
😄
When you go into Alaska, see if you can find fire weed honey. It's almost clear and it's very good
Will keep an eye out! -J
Adding to your Fun Facts…North American Van Lines (I worked at the headquarters in Ft. Wayne, IN for 30 Years) was the first and for many years the only van lines that traveled the ALCAN highway. You may find this video produced in 1955 very interesting…notice old camping trailers. ruclips.net/video/ifjOMvKfQiE/видео.htmlfeature=shared Thanks for sharing your experiences.
The Japanese did in fact attack Alaska, so it was prescient.
I had either forgotten this or never knew it! Diving down the historical rabbit hole now! -J
We've done a good bit of planning ahead and we're only looking at taking 2-4 "big" excursions. We've got a few smaller ones planned as well. First one is coming up this Monday: Full day guided glacier hike and it's costing us less than $400 total. -J
do you have a emergency fund on top of the 15k?
The $15K is specifically for:
Excursions
Fuel
Buffer
For our normal budget we have Kalyn's business that she has been building back, a client that I work for, and this youtube channel. If a major emergency came up and it was more than we could handle in our budget we would take it out of the $15K and do fewer excursions. -J
❤👍
🤗
umm you dont drive a 5th wheel you pull the 5th wheel
But did you know what we meant? -J
🤣🤣
Found your channel recently and wanted you to know how awesome your channel is. You guys have a real talent in this industry. Kudos for the dedication and work you’ve put into making your dreams come true.
@@OpenRoading yes LOL
Just subbed two days ago, and I love you guys. Great chemistry, and the camera loves you. Nothing can stop you now! Keep up the good work and safe travels!
Thanks so much for subscribing! -J
What an amazing trip. PS LOVE SWEET POTATO FRIES.... However, if you are in Canada you need to have Poutine. Safe Travels- Kyle and Michelle
I gave poutine a shot in Canmore....And either I didn't get it from the right place or it just doesn't agree with me. I didn't like how the texture made my fries soggy. 😭 I was excited too because cheesy fries are awesome! -J
Happy Friday hope you guys are having a blast!🎉
🏆 - I wanna know how you manage to do this every week. It truly is impressive! 😁 -J
Nice video, so glad y’all are doing this trip with friends. Be safe see you next time!
We are too! -J
Wow! Amazing, and I hope you guys have a very safe journey! Enjoy everything you can! You only live once. Keep that positivity going👌 You guys rock!🤘
Super excited to finally be on this trip! -J
Have fun, I'd have more faith in a 20 year old 5th than a 2024 model.
Why? My husband and I are looking to get a 5th wheel.
@nashdiy8570 - A lot of the newer models are having frame issues. Generally (very broad brush statement here) not built as solidly as some older RVs - especially if you plan on putting some weight in it (solar panels, batteries, extra water, etc.)
That said - if you ARE wanting new there are a couple of brands that you might be interested in.
For most brands I'd agree! This girl is a BEAST!
Do you know that the American s built the Alaska highway for us Canadians?
Indeed! Biggest construction cost for the US at the time! We're such a generous bunch down here. 😂 -J
I've heard great things about Valdez. Hope you get a chance to spend some time there.
We did! Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to do it justice because we crammed another travel thing in just before getting to Valdez but the place is BEAUTIFUL! -J
The videos seem to be further apart and shorter lately
Hey Mike! Thanks for your concern.
As to the space between them, whenever we have missed a week (just 2 times in the past more than 6 months) we let people know on our channel community page:
www.youtube.com/@OpenRoading/community
As to the video length they always vary from video to video.
The japaneese did attack alaska and even held a small island .
Well now I have a historical rabbit hole that I'm going to be diving down. Thanks! -J
I hope you went to the original mile 0 in Dawson
Uh oh! I'm guessing we didn't! -J
Looked like Trinity was having big fun with Maverick & Leland. Be safe out there!
They love chasing each other! -K
Loved this! You guys are so inspiring.
Thank you for bringing these videos to us. I look forward to them every week ❤
So glad you enjoy them! It truly is our hope that they bring a smile and hopefully a few laughs along the way. The BIGGEST compliment we get is people watching any video from start to finish. Makes our day because it means it was entertaining and fun! -J
@@OpenRoading I watch them to the end and then I click the like button. 👍
