That drive will be interesting. I’ve done it several times, on a motorcycle. The roughest road will be the Alaska Highway between Tok, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. The scenery will be utterly beautiful; the road construction will seem interminable.
Make absolutely sure you stop at Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park in Northern B.C. and soak in one of the most beautiful and big hot springs. I'm from Dawson Creek I make the trip once a year. Have a great trip!

After I saw the tires, I was expecting a BMW i3.
I thought it was the mustang, I was thinking yeah you almost couldn't do worse. The ridiculous car that might do the trick is the Dakar 911.

Back in 2018 I drove from Kenai, AK to Haverford, PA in my 2017 Subaru WRX. It was AWESOME and have been craving doing it again! Super stoked to see this!
My parents drove from Iowa to Fairbanks Alaska back in 1969 in their Camaro convertible. I'd love to make that drive some day.

8:00: when you use electricity in AK, 75% comes front Dinos. From Wikipedia: 52.4% natural gas, 20.7% hydroelectric, 13.5% petroleum, 10.8% coal, 2% wind, 0.6% biomass and 0.1% solar.
Alaska has a #$#$ ton of coal but i believe only one commercial coal mine.
That 75% of electricity in AK comes from "Dinos" is 100% BS.
That gas can looks like a good capacity for replenishing a chain saw, not fueling a car to get to the next remote filling station. What is it, just one gallon?

Someday I hope to do this road trip in my 2024 Ranger. The problem is there aren't enough aftermarket parts yet.

Great seeing Alaska make it into another TFL series! Looks like you even had some nice weather, which isn't always a guarantee. You've already made it back to CO safe and sound going off of the other clips, so I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the adventure unfold.
Cars are meant to be driven - certainly, not many can claim to have taken an i8 across the AlCan! Oddball trips like these are always the most memorable. More people should bend the rules like that, even if only a little bit. :)

My only regret is that you guys spoiled the surprise with two videos this week. I genuinely would have enjoyed being surprised by the vehicle choice and followed with anticipation the progress in the vids.

They did the same thing and spoiled a lot of the f150 lightning Alaska road trip across their other channels. It’s been a long time criticism of TFL.

Great video! My buddy and I had a choice of driving round trip from Salt Lake City to Fairbanks in my FJ60 Land Cruiser or a 1992 Honda CRX HF. Of course we took the CRX. Something like 2 inches of ground clearance and almost zero payload. Still averaged almost 50mpg in that tin box. Destroyed the windshield, headlights, and hood with flying rocks. But we made it.
Repeated that trip 6 times but always in one of my Land Cruisers.
Top tip to others who make the drive- take it really slow through construction zones and watch for flying rocks. That’s an expensive windshield and pajntwork.
The very name, anchorage, might be a clue to a much easier way to get that vehicle transported

@@kevinbarry71 Right, when I moved to Alaska I had my car shipped up there. When I moved back to the lower 48, I took the Alaska Maritime Highway (ferry system) from Homer, AK with several stops on the way to Bellingham, WA then drove back to CO. It was an interesting trip. Maybe not as much as this adventure but, really enjoyed my version of returning!
Channels called the fast Lane not the shipping lane. Driving was the right choice

Just drove from North Carolina to Fairbanks, AK and I can say the ALCAN is not bad at all. It's about 98% paved with fuel stations a plenty, the only bad roads are right before the AK/CA border and about 30 miles into AK. Other than that it's all well paved mostly 4 lanes with everything you could possibly need. The only way you would realize that you're not near civilization is the fact that you basically don't have any cell service at all in the Yukon or AK except inside of larger cities (whitehorse, Tok etc.).
I’ve driven the Alcan half a dozen times now, 2 in the winter, and once doing a sprint from Minneapolis to Anchorage in 3.5 days.

My mother's family did the AlCan round trip around 1970 in a split window VW van! They had 2 spare tires on the roof and made the whole trip without needing one!

And they had great weather, too! I've seen that i8 driving around a few times before over the last few years; it's cool to know that it provided them with a great road trip. Having also driven the AlCan before, it never gets old seeing others experience the same drive. Can't wait to watch the next part(s)!

In 1996 I drove a 1989 Subaru Loyale wagon from Michigan to Mt. Denail and back with a broken radiator fan.
With a good socket set that you purchased, it should have had the correct size socket for the lugs to use with a breaker bar that wouldn’t need the tire iron. Plus, I would have bought a flexible spot funnel that will simplify putting gas into the car. I know you’re back so I am interested to see your challenges encountered.

It is old for this kind of car...statistically people only keep a car for 10 years. So yes it is old-ish.

It was last minute. We had no choice.
Because you’re not going to find a wheel and tire specced for that BMW anywhere along the Alcan. You could order it, but it’ll probably take a week or 2.
I looked like a private sale. I don't see someone selling just one when they're try to sell a full set. I know I wouldn't.
Plus they can sell them with the car when they're done with it. Gotta do what you gotta do.

also i know it's too late, and also this might take longer, but you missed a ton of the most beautiful parts of Canada on the way home! If you went through BC instead of the flatter parts of Alberta it would've been so much nicer, especially for those who don't live here and see that stuff all the time

You could have just bought a wheel and tire in Anchorage. We moved out of our igloo years ago.
We tried but not with such short notice.
This is about to be a great road trip in a really good looking car,.. but I have a question, if the car came with 'snow tires' did you have to buy a bunch of spares to get one, take it on the plane to Anchorage, then what did you do with those four snow tires? ( there, would have been 4 spares! )
The original owner replaced the snow tires with summer tires and recycled the old snow tires. While Roman could have kept one of the old shoe tires as a spare it would not help with a flat because it would be a tire without a wheel.

Fix a flat ???? Really ????? I have never seen fix a flat work . How about a tire plugging kit and a portable air compressor, such as the ryobi high pressure portable , then you could use a ryobi impact to take off lug nuts and use the same battery .
Ive seen fix a falt work every time. Ive never not seen it work. Every time being like 3 maybe 4 max lol. Definitely tell your tire guy you used it though before they change the tire lol.

@TFLcar but you could get a compatible rim and tire combo as a spare for an emergency
@@tonylourenco4393not with out ordering it you can’t. It is a very specific wheel size and offset, and a unique tire size. Ordering one would likely take a week or 2. You can’t just slap any wheel with the same bolt pattern on there and have it work.
