The Girl with all the gifts sounds like it shares some themes with The last of us, which definitely makes me intrigued
Your vlogs are always the perfect surprise to my RUclips feed! Ever since I started watching your videos, I've fallen more in love with fantasy and sci-fi! You've convinced me to read so many amazing books outside my comfort zone!
I’ve been missing the vlogs 😭🫶🏼
the girl with all the gifts sounds pretty interesting. I may have to pick that one up
I really liked it!
Just read it and also really enjoyed it.
There is a movie...
service model sounds like a book that both my best friend and I might like - and we have very different reading tastes! rare buddy read material. thank you for bringing it to my attention!🤩
I read The Girl With All The Gifts cold. Stone cold knowing nothing about it. That was a marvellous way to read it, a reading of discovery, slow reveals and a great reading journey.
Love your reading vlogs! I’m going to keep my eye out for Service Model, it sounds great to me. Not sure if I’ll have the same issues with the ending, but I’m willing to give it a try! Have a great week!
I'm picking up Service Model from the library soon and intrigued to see where I'll land on it. The premise sounds really interesting but I've heard mixed things. So I guess you're right that it has found its audience as I've seen some people sing the its praises
I can't remember the last time I heard a "golly gee" 😂No judgement. I've been know to drop a "dagnabit" myself 🤣
Okay. You've sold me on the girl with all the gifts... getting it now 😆
I have completed Richard Swan's Empire of the Wolf Series and I like it very well. I think if you liked The Broken Earth Series you would like it. Neither is as Dark and Grim as I usually like But I liked both pretty well. Normally, I like Esslemont, Erikson, Abercrombie or Gwynn but sometimes I will read the lighter side of Fantasy. Please don't forget about Toll of the Hounds.
I so so hope I would be a hardcore fan of Service Model. I wait for that version of cover to reach my bookshop....
❤ Yay it’s the Swing again! Did Murphy just say “golly gee!”?
i added service model to my tbr!
you've got me interested in the girl with all the gifts
I love the reading vlogs!

▪︎ Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman
Both also great stores about family. Have fun!
Are you still doing a Dresden review this month?
Do you mind telling me where that waterfall is located? It’s beautiful.
Mike Carey also wrote a Dresden-like (but darker) urban fantasy series that you might want to check out, the Felix Castor series.
Service model sounds like it would be so good 😱
KR15-T lol, ok that's pretty clever 😂. Usually when I make robot or android characters, I always do acronyms. For example: S.T.A.N.L.E.Y - Super Titanium Android Nurturing Lost Egotistical Youngsters
there's a book called Sea of Rust from C. Robert Cargill and a prequel Day Zero that are based in a world where robots take control. Sea of Rust is way into the future where societies are build by robots (a bit of mad max feel) and Day Zero is how all this starts and I think it's the best of the two. But both are well worth the time imo.
I loved the setup for the girl with all the gifts. It was so wonderful and unique. So, by the end, when it evolved into something much more typical plot wise, I felt kinda let down🫤
Gorgeous bonus footage as always, where were the mini falls?
I tried reading The Girl with All the Gifts earlier this month. What i read, i thought was very good, but i wasn't in the mood for it, so i put it down to read at a later date
I think you chose two books which would have benefited with no having this review and going in cold, then again a lot of people would not have read them without this review.
The girl with all the gifts was pretty good. I have it a 3.5 but they really missed the mark on the ending.

Your overview of the setup for "The Girl with All the Gifts" reminds me very much of an anime called Elfen Lied. (should be Leid, it's German for "Elf Song" but meh)
That was a very, very weird anime, and I don't recommend either it or the manga to you, Merph. It tells a lot of tragic stories really well, but it leans heavily on abuse of various kinds, and it combines that with an Ecchi/harem anime style status quo that is a deeply uncomfortable combination. Also, the manga's plot gets *really* unpleasantly weird after it diverges from the anime.
But yeah, there's a core premise of young girls with special telekinetic powers who are being experimented on by a mysterious organization for unknown reasons.
(Also this was the first anime I watched since when I was a kid watching anime as "oh it's a cartoon but actually has a narrative." It was...quite the reintroduction to the concept of such entertainment.)
