We just started quail on our homestead about 2 weeks ago. We have 4 hutches. 3 for breeding and 1 for grow-out and hope to expand that over the next year. Can't say a whole lot about the process just yet but I will say that I do disagree just a tad with focusing on just one avenue of income for your homestead. We prefer to have many different avenues of income as we have chickens for eggs and meat, rabbits to sell as pets/meat, pigs for meat, bees for honey and wax, quail for eggs and selling breeding groups, garden for produce, fruit trees, and eventually other things. One of the reasons we do so many things is that it can take just one horrible disease or disaster to wipe out a whole flock of chickens or rabbits or whatever. If you focus on just one thing and that fails then you are back to square one to rebuild. If, on the other hand, you have diversified, and not 'put all your eggs in one basket' so to speak, then you have other things to fall back on while you rebuild. Doesn't mean you can't give more focus to one or two things like quail and rabbits or whatever and become an expert in just those, but not diversifying can set you back significantly if something goes wrong. And believe me, something will go wrong.
The birds at 3:14 have mites and need to be treated. You can see feather loss and scaley bald skin spots. This seems to be AI generated and leaves out some details. Watch someone who is live and showing their own set up. If not AI I appologize but the birds still need treatment. I've been raising quail for 10 years.
That would be a 102 guide :) You can't really include all the info in a 10-15 minutes long video, but we'll surely post more videos in the future about raising quails, going more into the specifics.
We know this is harmful and stressful to the quails and can result in injury, but that's how some people do it. It is important to treat all animals with respect and kindness.
