I live in far western Kentucky. 27 years ago we started raising Coturnix quail. We had about 500. A LOT OF EGGS! They make great deviled eggs and pickled eggs! We now raise 10,000 Bob White quail each year.
Wow that’s so cool! Y’all should make videos too! I’m brand new to quail. Just hatched my first 12, and have more eggs on the way. I love them so much and can’t wait for more.
your feeding box with the holes to reduce waste is incredible. I raise chickens from egg to dinner/breeders and wasted feed is a real expensive problem and YOU HAVE SOLVED MY PROBLEM AND I THANK YOU!

Thanks so much for the glowing recommendation of my channel. A tip on the water when it is freezing, use a container similar to your feeder. It doesn't need to be as fancy but cut holes in the side of a Tupperware style container and they can get their heads in to get a drink but can't get in the water to fowl it up. Good luck on the birds you mixed in too. They tend to get aggressive when introduced to new birds and they can beat the tar of them. The most common issue is pecking the eyes. usually they work it out but sometimes you will lose a bird or two to overly aggressive hens.
I follow both of your channels and am hoping to get into raising quail and homesteading in the near future. Both of your families are inspirations! Keep up the great work!
I really enjoy the videos you guys put out! Always informative, entertaining, and you guys touch on so many different aspects of homesteading! I've yet to have seen any of your videos that were boring or insignificant!!! I'm always learning something new that pertains to what we're doing here and the big plus is you're not that far away so our weather is pretty much the same!!! Thank you for all you guys do!!! 💖💓
We made a feeder like yours after watching your video. We have reduced the amount of feed we use by about 1/3 due to very little waste now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep the great videos coming.
I just love watching you build Kevin, you are so innovative its just great to see.Clever Guy. And Sarah is just as innovative with her cooking and gardening.A super couple who so compliment each others talents.much love from Australia. God Bless.
Chris' channel is great. He's the one who turned me onto the idea of raising quail instead of chickens on my urban homestead. I've learned a lot from him.
Thanks for the great information Kevin. I plan on farming quail once I return from my deployment. Your triumphs and fails are priceless info. Thank you again and God Bless!
The last month has been spent researching the Coturnix quail. I’ve been so excited about getting ready for them. I was thrilled to see you have them as well.
thank you Kevin, i learned something today sexing birds. Pretty awesome how far you come from 4 birds to what you have now and even extra for freezer camp! Soon you will have enough to breed, freeze and sell at the farmers market!
For snakes I use Snake Away. It has to be replaced after the rain but it does work. We plan on starting quail soon and I've been following you and Slightly Rednecked. Thank you for all that you and Sarah share, We really appreciate it!
@Keeping it Dutch, I follow you as well as @Living Traditions and Dan! Can't wait to see your Quail adventure too! Kevin sure has a great set up and is very informative also! Sarah, pickled quail eggs are absolutely wonderful! You grow so many peppers so you could spice your vinegar solution nicely! Try it...you'll love them!! They are one-bite wonders.

I've raised a lot of quail in my days as a child teenager and young man and yes I had some nice cages but back then we just didn't have the forethought on feeding and wasting feed what you're doing giving us information to be able to achieve our goals and achieve them higher with less cost is just so good to hear I really appreciate what you're doing in my opinion you're extremely professional at what you're doing with these quail and I thank you so much

Kevin, really like the way you figured out your Living Traditions No Wast Feeder, you should patent that. If I ever get set up to raise quail you will have it all figured out for me, thanks and God bless.
We are in south central Missouri. Gonna put a order in for some at cackle hatchery . We raise a lot of chickens already and incubate , so hopefully we will be ok with our own hatchlings . Great pointers btw.
My father would ALWAYS have a dozen or so quail running in our chicken pens, said they would 'clean up' the feed the chickens tossed out when eating. We did give the quail crumble food just for them in a small cage the chickens couldn't get into.
What a great informative video! I've had quail for quite some time now and I didn't know some of what you have shared. I agree with you on the diatomaceous earth. I was actually warned about those hazards by a salesman who represented the company that first sold that to farm and nursery stores. I have discovered that it will kill earth worms very quickly, too. So I am always very careful with that stuff.
Think 1oz to a liter of sand volume. My sand bath batches are 5 parts sand, 1-2 parts fine soil, 1 part fireplace ash, 1 part dried coffee grounds and a 1/4-1/2 cup diatomaceous earth. Mix in a 5 gallon bucket and I have been using cereal boxes with front of the box cut out (leaving 1/2" lip) for disposable sand baths. The lip keeps the sand in longer and you can toss them when they get too beat up.
Well that was awesome ! Now when I get quail I’ll know how to tell them apart . :) Thank You for this video! I’m glad the feeders are working out so well! I watched that video where you showed how to make them ! So cool! I will indeed make some for when I get my birds ! :) Thank you for sharing and have a blessed day!
just a thought, I've been raising chicks with the jar style waterers and found height is the dirt factor. look at the auto waterers you use then position the jar waterers the same height off the bottom of the cage. I make simple pedestals for mine to curb the dirt. great vid. doing research on quail because I want to add some to my farm. Like your cages
Love your videos. Did you know there are a new poultry water cups with a built in float where the cups stay half full of water all the timr. Thats what I use I get them on Amazon 4 cups for 19.99

Love the video, lots to learn.
