***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

I live in far western Kentucky. 27 years ago we started raising Coturnix quail. We had about 500. A LOT OF EGGS! They make great deviled eggs and pickled eggs! We now raise 10,000 Bob White quail each year.
your feeding box with the holes to reduce waste is incredible. I raise chickens from egg to dinner/breeders and wasted feed is a real expensive problem and YOU HAVE SOLVED MY PROBLEM AND I THANK YOU!
Thanks so much for the glowing recommendation of my channel. A tip on the water when it is freezing, use a container similar to your feeder. It doesn't need to be as fancy but cut holes in the side of a Tupperware style container and they can get their heads in to get a drink but can't get in the water to fowl it up. Good luck on the birds you mixed in too. They tend to get aggressive when introduced to new birds and they can beat the tar of them. The most common issue is pecking the eyes. usually they work it out but sometimes you will lose a bird or two to overly aggressive hens.
I follow both of your channels and am hoping to get into raising quail and homesteading in the near future. Both of your families are inspirations! Keep up the great work!
I really enjoy the videos you guys put out! Always informative, entertaining, and you guys touch on so many different aspects of homesteading! I've yet to have seen any of your videos that were boring or insignificant!!! I'm always learning something new that pertains to what we're doing here and the big plus is you're not that far away so our weather is pretty much the same!!! Thank you for all you guys do!!! 💖💓
@@lawdog72562 Us, too! We're convinced that being over 70, quail are a go-to fowl for ease of sustainability. ~ Kir in Tennessee
Chis I'm subscribing to you and checking your vids out.
Yes, I too follow both channels - we are new to homesteading and learning all we can!
I just love watching you build Kevin, you are so innovative its just great to see.Clever Guy. And Sarah is just as innovative with her cooking and gardening.A super couple who so compliment each others talents.much love from Australia. God Bless.
A fellow Missouri girl here! I already have chickens, rabbits, and geese, but have been wanting quail for a while! Great info and great videos!
If you want to keep your mason jar set up clean try elevating 3-4 inches either by resting on a block or hanging for best results! Great video!
Great video, mine will be hatching in the next few days, I been watching all your quail videos getting ready for mine. 😁
Awesome! We’ll be watching to see how they do.
@Keeping it Dutch, I follow you as well as @Living Traditions and Dan! Can't wait to see your Quail adventure too! Kevin sure has a great set up and is very informative also! My husband is considering getting Quail after watching Living Traditions videos on them! @Off Grid with Doug and Stacy are how I got started watching you all on RUclips!!!
Cheers for this, I've been looking for "japanese quail care sheet" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a smashing one off product for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the headache. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.
cool
Thanks for the great information Kevin. I plan on farming quail once I return from my deployment.
Your triumphs and fails are priceless info. Thank you again and God Bless!
Love the cages.
Beautiful birds
It's good the way you got this set up about raising them eggs and this is helping others learning how to do it , thanks for sharing
I caught my quail dust bathing today😂😂😂! They dug a hole about 4 inches deep and we’re loving it!
Glad you’re having good success with the quail, I’ve hatched chickens, ducks and turkeys and now you’ve inspired me to hatch some quail. Thanks for the tips and entertaining video’s/I would love to see a video on how you prepare the males for the freezer.
The last month has been spent researching the Coturnix quail. I’ve been so excited about getting ready for them. I was thrilled to see you have them as well.
T Klein omg I've been doing and thinking the exact same thing!!!
Inspiring!! I can't wait until we (finally) find our homestead and i can build a nice quail set up.. i love ya'll's organization!
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO..U ARE TRAINING ME..RETIRED LARRY IN INDIANAPOLIS...I ONLY WANT TO RAISE
A FEW ...IM GOING TO WAIT TILL WARM ER WEATHER...
We made a feeder like yours after watching your video. We have reduced the amount of feed we use by about 1/3 due to very little waste now. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep the great videos coming.
Chris' channel is great. He's the one who turned me onto the idea of raising quail instead of chickens on my urban homestead. I've learned a lot from him.
What is Chris’s RUclips channel? I typed in Chris quail and got some junk😆

You do such a great job when you construct anything. Simple but top quality even when you use reclaimed items.
Amazing how fast they grow. They're looking great. God bless!
Very cool, Congratulations on your success!!! I love all your ideas and ingenuity, what a great life you both are making for your girls and your future generations if they choose to homestead!!! Blessings to your family always!!
For snakes I use Snake Away. It has to be replaced after the rain but it does work. We plan on starting quail soon and I've been following you and Slightly Rednecked. Thank you for all that you and Sarah share, We really appreciate it!
Kevin, really like the way you figured out your Living Traditions No Wast Feeder, you should patent that. If I ever get set up to raise quail you will have it all figured out for me, thanks and God bless.
Happy V-Day everyone!!! Have a GREAT day!! I am getting a puppy for the kids today and for our homestead. Going to be an exciting day!!!
Congrats on your increased number of quail! I think that’s really awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for ALL of your videos about Quail. Im new at this, and you are a pretty darn good teacher. I love my little birds.

Great quail videos, you really seem to know what you're doing. I raised quail many years ago, so this brings back a lot of great memories!
Chris is a very nice man. And he certainly knows his stuff when it comes to quail
Thanks for sharing, Kevin. Between you and Chris, I may start quail this year. Nice set up and clearly you take bride in your flock. Blessings.
you rock, thank you. I loved watching you years ago when I first started dreaming of my farm. Im almost there and you are a saving grace
What have you been doing in the meantime to prepare?
@@AmericanOdyssey91 more than I can write in here. And started one path just to walk away from it and start another and to walk yet from that one. Three are many areas that need trimming and many ways to prepare
You really have such great care with your animals - thank you

Sarah, pickled quail eggs are absolutely wonderful! You grow so many peppers so you could spice your vinegar solution nicely! Try it...you'll love them!! They are one-bite wonders.

That egg must be scrambled by now, Kevin you really talk with your hands! Lol!
Hah! I was thinking the same. Wonder if it will hatch.
M C ....I kept watching all the movements and thinking that’s scrambled or that’s going to be a very dizzy quail! He just got so involved giving the information I think he forgot that he was holding it! Lol!
I love your quail setup man, I may set my quail up like this when we start :)
Thanks so much. Love all your cool ideas & setup.
Love the video ! Happy Valentines day to you and your family ! :)
My father would ALWAYS have a dozen or so quail running in our chicken pens, said they would 'clean up' the feed the chickens tossed out when eating. We did give the quail crumble food just for them in a small cage the chickens couldn't get into.
Great video very educational About the Sexing of the birds . In all the years that I've been a chef I had never tasted quail until about 8 years ago at a food show And it was unbelievable .God bless have a great day Chef 🎅

Hi Kevin, When I was 5 or 6 years old my father started to have quails in an outdoor run with a part indoors. My mum told me that it was never a success so I don’t know what went wrong. This was in the mid 60th in The Netherlands. Great video. Eveline now in Scotland
Great info. I'm wanting to get started with quail in the fall.
Thanks! I'm hoping to start quail this year, great info!
What a great informative video! I've had quail for quite some time now and I didn't know some of what you have shared. I agree with you on the diatomaceous earth. I was actually warned about those hazards by a salesman who represented the company that first sold that to farm and nursery stores. I have discovered that it will kill earth worms very quickly, too. So I am always very careful with that stuff.
Think 1oz to a liter of sand volume. My sand bath batches are 5 parts sand, 1-2 parts fine soil, 1 part fireplace ash, 1 part dried coffee grounds and a 1/4-1/2 cup diatomaceous earth. Mix in a 5 gallon bucket and I have been using cereal boxes with front of the box cut out (leaving 1/2" lip) for disposable sand baths. The lip keeps the sand in longer and you can toss them when they get too beat up.
Thanks for sharing Kevin, I'd really like to get into quail. I think I'll spend this year researching and maybe next year make the switch
Very good video! Don't intend on raising quail but still interesting! Have a great day!
Watching your archived quail vlogs now that your raising again

Always like your videos. I've never seen the metal-based water bases. I have used the plastic, both the wide and the narrow. Put them om a 4 x 4, Birds can reach.
