    I sold 450 dozen every 2 weeks . I also made money on chicks , quail meat , quail sausage , quail jerky and more .
    None was online. Mainly word of mouth and standing orders from stores .
    My girl broke her back , so life had to change to help her . I shut down the quail business .
    It has been 8 years since I shutdown . I am just now am getting rid of the rest of the equipment .

      You should get back into it as a hobby instead of a business.

      @ , I will get back into it as a hobby and business soon . In 5 years if taking a break , no one has filled the areas i did , so the customers I supplied are saying they can take as much as i can supply .
      I will be setting back up soon .

    Someone suggested quail as a means of self sustainability, which i initially dismissed as a city boy, but I decided to set my prejudices aside and do some research, and your video was very informative/helpful. I appreciate your time for this, and I'll be sure to sub to gain more information!
    May God bless you and yours.

    How do the changing seasons change your income/cost ratio? Quail typically stop laying during the winter unless you are providing supplemental light. So I was thinking your quail boom is just in the spring/summer and slows down the rest of the year?

    • @southofsanityfarms5752
      @southofsanityfarms5752  3 дня назад

      @@hollywhited8495 they slowed down in late fall and we added supplemental light and after a few weeks they were back up to regular production. We did just have some very cold weather for our part of the country a few weeks ago and since then, production has been slower. Not sure if it was just the coldness or maybe the stress of water lines freezing and not having 24/7 access to water. But this week has been nice and we are getting more eggs.

    We have a small house on the countryside with a outhouse for pigs and chickens have about 0,34 acre, so it has it limits. Want to buy a small farm here in Norway later, how many do recommend to start with for meat and egg? Here they say Euroquail/Eurovaktel is the best for that.
    Have some 'old' rabbit cages, that need to be cleaned by hand inside.

      We started with 100 chicks. We kept 50 females and 10 males, and that is more than enough to provide meat and eggs for our family of 7. Good luck with your quail!

    • @philip4588
      @philip4588 13 дней назад

      @ Think 100 will be to much here. Thinking about 15 + 15 (10 males total if is the right ratio) half for eggs and half breeding for meat.

      @@tammyjarvis3090 we give them a non GMO chick starter in addition to grazing and they have been growing out just as well with that compared to the higher costing gamebird starter.

      @@tammyjarvis3090 , they are not smart birds . They will not go into a poultry house without you putting them in . I prefer cages because they are not smart and would walk right up to a coyote, weasel or someone’s dog.

      Before you get your knickers in a twist you should know that quail prefer small spaces. They're a very skittish animal that hates being in the open and prefers to be in groups with lots of cover.
