When storing the Hitch can you keep the key in the hitch?

+Joshua Fredrickson , I suppose you can if you want. That would make keeping track of the hitch key easier.

One additional thought, if you do leave the key in the hitch and it's rolling around in trunk area, there's a chance the key knob will break off and the key blade will be stuck inside the hitch lock. So, maybe not a good idea to leave the key inside the hitch if you're keeping it in the trunk of the car.

Not a real problem. It is designed like that so that you do not remove the key and loose it.

The dust cover for the hitch assembly on my new model X is not as pictured in the manual and I have no idea how to remove the two bolts holding it in place without damaging the cover. They are not any type of bolt I've ever seen and there are two rather than the single bolt with normal slot shown in the manual. Please advise, THX!

The dust cover is held in place by two plastic pop rivets. They are removed by prying out - they are not threaded so do not try to unscrew. A regular screwdriver placed firmly in the side slot and turned will pop them open for removal. The dust cover can then be removed and stored while the hitch is in use.

I use my nails on both sides, pulling out the middle part of the head, and then they can be removed. To get the dust cover off, push up a little in front (as in, towards the front of the car) of the cover to bend the plastic a bit up, then you can get your fingers under the cover and pull it down and forwards.

Where do you buy this Trailer hitch for the Model X? I'd like to buy one since my Model X didn't come with it.

Since it is such a pain, I use my other vehicle to haul my trailer. Why could they not have just used the standard receiver and plug system, like every other SUV in the world. There is nothing but an added inconvenience with this design, and nothing wrong with the standard type.... Typical Tesla Over-Engineering

Awfull engenering, can not imagine that after few years of salt and snow exposure...

Do you have a better design than this that you would like to share? I think it will hold up just fine in snow and salt, it appears to be powder coated and well greased.

Living in Norway, I can confirm that this is not an issue at all. Drove on snowy and salted roads to our cabin last weekend, and it works really well. Also, when not using it, it is easy to remove and replace the cover under the car so it looks nice again =)

Great video but you say "huh" and " uuhmm" too much. Take a speech class to correct this and your vidoes will be easier to watch
