  • Zanzibar -- The Dark Side of Paradise is a twenty minute news documentary which looks at the causes and consequences of the longest blackout in history. The film assesses how unremitting power problems in the Spice Islands are putting their fragile economy at great risk, whilst also denying their impoverished population a safe water supply. It also provides a background of Zanzibar's current political situation and their dependence on tourism in order to illustrate why the power cuts are only serving to aggravate an already dire situation.

The way Sub Saharan Africans suffered at the hands of Arabs, Afro Arabs, Indians, And Europeans in Zanzibar is like how Australian Aboriginals suffered at the hands of Torres Strait Islanders, Europeans, And Half Castes in Australia

I worked in Zanzibar 50 years ago, I never met more honest and decent people during my working life in many countries. That was then! I intend to go back for a holiday and see if the influx of non Zanzibaris has corrupted such beautiful people.

I was in zanzibar in Dec2021.Locals are well behaved , cost of living is cheap for tourists but locals complain about the high cost of living. Most of the workforce in the hospitality sector come from the mainlandand most dont treat locals as equals for adhering to a different faith.

what we need is one government and zanzibar to be a province which will relieve the heavy costs of civil servants in the zanzibar govt. also zanzibaris will easily be accessible bringing easy exchange of ideas and capital with the mainland which the conservative isamic clerigy doesnt want since the people will learn the culture of poverty they've cultivated on the most strategic island in africa

Zanzibaris a beautiful island. By providing solar panel the employment can increase the tourism so that the economy of Zanzibar will get increased. Pakistani prime minister Mr Imran Khan is very interested in the development of Pakistan now, as well as the Indian politician and actor Mr Prakash Raj doing the refurbishing activity in India Karnataka and India Tamilnadu. these people are having very good knowledge about how to refurbish the land . my Idea is to attract the investors to invest in tourism in Zanzibar and let them get the profit let them reinvest the profit in the same Island itself. if they do this within 3 to 4 years Zanzibar economy will go up, everything will be alright

i dont blame the public zanzibarians for thinking the mainland daresalam has effect on the economy which they do, but it all started from the british colonising zanzibar main trade port and stealing substantial amounts of gold which put a major downhill on africa as well as the fact tanzania as a whole mainland is mainly invested in
