In a way, I left the doc feeling sorry for him. The amount of pressure his parents put in him. Never having a childhood where he was allowed to make mistakes and learn lessons. It was kind of inevitable honestly.

It's got to be incredibly difficult to be in a position of power, man or woman, with people throwing themselves at you all day, every day. It's not just limited to sports, politicians, CEO's and whatever other celebrities in any area. We only hear about the one's in the public eye, we don't hear about the CEO from whatever Fortune 500 company being caught with however many mistresses. We would have never heard about Jeffrey Epstein if he didn't have high profile friends (disgusting individual). Anyway, I'm not here to make excuses for them what they did was wrong but it's also something the average person will never understand. Ron White had a great quote about Tiger and said that nobody ever mentions all the strange he turned down and one of his wife's friends had an affair and she said it happened 1 time, he had 1 opportunity. It's easier to turn it down 1 time rather than 5,000,000 times. Just my $0.02

Enjoyed this section of the podcast and I agree with Rick 100%. It should have been called “Eldrick.” Hard to see your childhood idol in a different light but in a way it made him more human. My fiancé didn’t really take a liking too the film or Tiger as well. But this would be another example of what can happen to a person when they grow up in the lime light too quickly. He made his mistakes later in his life. Generally you learn from your mistakes young and learn from there. Still a big fan of Tiger. Especially in today’s golf world. I’d say he has learned from his mistakes pretty well.

Personally, I feel that anyone holding any sports person up as a role model for our kids is being completely unfair. They are after all only human. More than capable of making the same mistakes that the rest of us make. Sure, admire their performances in the sports arenas and encourage all to aim to replicate or improve on those perfmances.
Anything they do in their personal lives should be left there and they allowed to deal with them like all of the rest of us are.
I admire Tiger for his sports performances. He is one of a kind and it will be a long time before those performances are bested.
As for his personal life, I feel for the guy. An area that undoubtably his parents did not do a good enough job of teaching him how to behave.
Will his personal judgements affect my thoughts on him as a sportsman? No, and nor should they in my opinion.
Would I aim or recomend anyone to replicate his personal life? Never. I hope that I do my job as a parent and teach my own kids how to live their lives in a way they can be pround of.

Tiger Woods screwed up his personal life really badly, particularly with the serial episodes of infidelity with very expensive hookers and women who wanted a piece of him. His error was that he forgot, like many celebrities do, that he is human, and except for the best golf game ever played, he's not all that special after all, being merely human.
His ex wife signed on to that lifestyle, after all. He done her wrong, but she came out of that one of the wealthiest women in the world. The fact that she remarried to an even bigger fortune says a bit about her mercenary tendencies. Gold diggers gotta dig, you know.
Tiger owned up to his faults and past. He's trying to be the best dad he can, and I think Earl's legacy is best seen in Tiger's work after his divorce and the collapse of his endorsement empire, to rehabilitate himself in his kid's eyes more than anything else.

I mean, this people train and porsue their goals beyond the obsession line. Is that a good recipe for a balanced life and happiness? I seriously doubt it.

So much shit in here it's insane I'm sorry! He is an elite sportsman. Like any other sportsman, musician, etc... you don't idolise them because how good of a father/mother they are, you idolise them because of what they achieve professionally. I've always loved him because he has made my love this sport more than any other, and that'll never change! You don't like someone famous for it's background stuff! Everyone makes mistakes, he apologised for them and that is it! Life goes on! He still has a very good relationship with his exwife. I'm sure that you guys have made mistakes during your lives but that doesn't gonna make someone love you or hate you more. And I'm pretty sure Tiger has had a pretty tough background life despite all the early success! He is the greatest and we'll miss him when he isn't around us any more. I can't believe someone who has cheered for him for almost 25 years know sees him in any other way, that is stupid.

Documentaries are always made with the filmmakers biases included. It’s not excuse making for tiger, but they chose to portray him in a more negative light on purpose. They did suggest he is a nuanced person, but he seems like a very good father now, which wasn’t discussed. He seems like a person who had more demons than we’ll ever know and has battled through them.
None of us can ever know what it’s like to be a top 5 famous person in the world. It’s impossible. I’m not saying it’s excusable to be a sex addict. I’m saying none of us can imagine the pressure and living that experience. The film maker chose to make Tiger seem dirty rather than human. I felt gross watching it and felt empathy for a broken soul yearning for something more.
Finally, millions of people all across the world of every race have embraced Tiger Woods. The film makers decided to use Tiger as a pawn for their ideology. Tigers father suggests throughout the documentary that he hopes tiger can be a racial healer. Tiger has been that. He’s paved the way for plenty of minority golfers to succeed and be loved. He’s made millions doing that. But continually shoving the racial narrative down the viewers throat was one of the major negatives of the film for me.

Tiger lived a very sheltered structured life up until he was on his own (without Earl) so it was no surprise when all the goodies that come along with being someone like Tiger Woods the Mega Star he would indulge in them. Real question.. Am I weird for this? I've always found it weird how enthralled people get in the personal lives of celebrities. Ive struggled with this concept since I was a child when I'd hear adults talking about who some random celeb was dating or their relationship with their parents, children etc, and then to developed DEEP real love/hate opinions about them based on the sliver of a person we get was/is just strange. This isn't just a Tiger thing for me, I struggle with this concept when considering people's reactions to celebs whose work I'm completely indifferent about. Its just really odd to me. I've always viewed celebs and athletes as people whose job it is to be famous, but who are just people at the end of it all, that they are as fallible as the people who observe them on screen and develope love/hate relationship with pixilated versions of them. I struggle with differentiating that behavior from something like a person developing intense love/hate relationships with Mario Brothers, Batman, or James Bond.

Likely that poor Bryson will follow, though I hope not. The documentary tried and failed understanding the man. As did his friends, with their so called support. When you win as much as he did, you feel differently. When you work as hard as he did, you earn different things. So family man can bash the god from the couch, but he should stick to what he knows. Be a sweet man, leave the winning to the winners. Tiger is a great dad, like his father. His wife took sail with a ton of money, no need to feel super sorry for her. His kids are fine.

Not condoning Earl's or Tiger's actions, but I really felt like this was none of our business. Its Tiger and his family's problem. Not mine. I definitely felt bad for watching it and learning these details. Made me sad for all involved, including Tiger. I also felt like they stopped the personal story with the crash. What about the last several years? He seems to be a good dad. Why didn't they share that with world? Answer - not dirty enough.

Yang beat him at the PGA he didn’t know how to handle it mentally, then the tabloid stuff came out and his body broke down. He had those good years from 2010-2014 where he still won a lot but never a major and I think that was why.

Nearly every child prodigy who fail to have a proper childhood / teen years will at sometime rebel at play out adolescence in later life .
I couldn’t give two Flying hoots what Tiger does in the bedroom .. honestly
He should be solely judged on what he does on the golf course . He is without doubt one of the greatest sportsman to have ever lived .. and there can be no arguments in that .

There are a lot more professional golfers today with childhoods just the same as tigers, but they have something he hasn’t got, a personality, great golfer you can never take that away from him. I hate him playing any televised tournaments now, the leaders could be 5 or6 shots clear playing out of their skins , tiger will be playing average golf at best then he’ll hit one miracle shot the cameras stay on him, the commentators “ tiger making his move now watch this leader board change now the leaders will be looking over their shoulders now the tiger is roaring” the he goes back to average golf but the cameras stay with him, this spoils my enjoyment of the coverage
