Well, it did not really got discontinued per se. It only got better, there was no need to rush I guess after all
@@MPD90 yup, reference number changed, movement got upgrade, some minor tweaks on the dial. So in my book, pretty much the same model if it's the looks you're after. What I'm happy about is that there's a chance prices for the 21.. will go down a bit, since the speculation did not work out (well done Rolex).
I agree about 39mm, I guess that's a one that will now skyrocket on the second hand market. I will wait for a 41mm, 39mm was too small, I will not even bother with 36mm.

I thought of getting this but ultimately decided on the Casio Duro because $100 is all the money I’ve got.
Not too large at all. It is great watch to wear and the white does make it pop. I am pleased with mine and a good addition to any collection. A future classic??? Maybe.
A beautiful watch. I'd have bought one but 42mm is too big for me, so I went for the older 40mm model and absolutely love it!
I tried the black dial version last week but the 42mm size is way too big on my wrist. I believe you are 100% right regarding the value potential of this model. I wish they had kept it at 40mm

I own exactly one Rolex and it's this one. Never leaves my wrist. I think that's how an explorer 2 should be worn. Not in a collector's box but as a solid companion. But I guess, to each their own.

@@jayarade31 great job man. I honestly believe this is how Hans Wilsdorf wanted these watches to be treated. Maybe that's why they don't have an exhibition case back. You can't see it anyways if it never leaves your wrist.
Also it's just an amazing watch to behold. I think they will have to change something for the next gen but every move away from where it is now will be a depreciation. Wear it in good health!
@Domen true. I might concede that you can also have a luxurious golden dress watch for special occasions but that's enough then. However, it's not for me to decide for others what's best. One thing in mind though: life is short. You can only have so much total wrist time. Better spend it with one beauty you love most.
I have bunch of Rolexes and I bought this exact watch about 1 month ago and gotta say it is a killer watch. I have this one and also 16570 polar which is the previous model. They are both great. I will (of course) keep them both. Propably my favourite two Rolexes ever. And yes, this model will propably be discontinued in April this year so hurry up. The prices will skyrocket and I am pretty sure that after a year these go to 11k-12k or more. So right now if you go to grey market and pay 8,5k-9k you'll propably be fine.
Gotta say that 16570 and 216570 are two completely different watches. 42 vs. 40 mm and orange GMT vs. red. That is the reason why I will keep them both.

I picked up the black dial late last year. I had the choice of white and black, went with black. It’s a great watch!
I am a huge fan of the explorer 2. I agree, when I saw the pictures, I hated it. But when I put it on my wrist, I couldnt stop thinking about it.
I personally think the 42mm is going to become the benchmark with ROLEX and PATEK PHILIPPE over the next 5 years. Larger dials have been trending strongly in the Luxury watch space.
I think 40 is max, 42 is pushing it.
@@J0lker Why would you say 40 is max when they just went to 41 in the Sub line, they have 41 with their Datejusts, they have 42 with the Explorer 2 and the Sky-Dweller line, 43 with the Sea-Dweller, and 44 with the Deepsea and the Yacht-Master II? I mean I can understand the argument with staying that most will be 40 (which is now changing) but saying 40 is max? That's already proven incorrect.
I think that 5 years ago you would be right that larger diameters would be trending. But I feel like now we are going more for traditional sizes. Remember the 2000s when everybody was wearing massive breitlings etc.
@@damachine3 Well, no - it's not proven. It's just like saying diesel makes 60mm watches so looking this way 40 hardly is anywhere max. Most people buy rolex to show others they have a rolex and larger diameter help it. facts.
@@nikhilmathur6042 Yes I agree, having wall clocks on wrists are just making it look like you're trying too hard imho. watch is for me, not for others.
I love mine. It's my daily watch. Only trouble is, you get used to it and think the 40mm and especially 36mm are tiny by comparison
Congrats. I got the call on that watch last January and it is one of my favorites in my collection. Most people don't know that the Polar Explorer is one of the hardest Rolexes to acquire from an AD. Speaking of difficult watches to acquire from an AD, I also recently picked up the Patek Philippe 5712/1A-001.

The new explorer II is out and it looks exactly like the previous generation. Biggest difference is the movement. There really is no rush to buy anything.
No way is that too large. I had an opportunity to buy the black version of that watch a couple of years ago and I am kicking myself that I didn’t. I could have gotten a discount, as well.
I did it the other way round. Brought the explorer 2 in black dial last year. Enjoyed it so much that I purchased the explorer a few months later. I did mention you need to add the explorer 2 in your explorer video and I am glad you did. You wont regret it especially as it is rumoured to discontinue this year. Well it is the 50th anniversary of the explorer and as history is to go by, we probably have an 50th year edition out. The Rolex hype train continues...
Yes buy it before they discontinue it. However NO ONE can get these here in the Midwest, at retail. We are starting to see small waiting lists for Date Just models. It seems like guys in Europe have more luck getting any Rolex. There are a bunch of these Polar Explorers in the used market for over $9-$10k plus

The review will be next week. I have this piece in my collection and it's one of my favorites. Super underrated watch and most people don't know that it's one of the hardest to acquire. 42 mm is perfect for me, I love how it's chunky, yet not too chunky, the all-brushed oyster bracelet adds a great sport factor, the GMT function is great, I love the brushed steel bezel and the look that it gives it, and the orange accents with the white dial are perfection.

Your description is spot on. It is one of the most balanced GMT’s Rolex has made - not over rated but with enough presence to turn the eye. I actually prefer it to the black dial as it is arguably the only Rolex that has a pure white face (with the exception of the OP 39mm white face which has been discontinued).
The bracelet is amazingly comfortable and the way is tapers towards the clasp adds to that comfort.

Then I got the Explorer One just like yours and stupidly sold it off last year. I’d love to get the same Explorer 2 you’ve got. Nothing beats the 16570
I was fortunate enough to find one sitting in the AD window in Mexico City back in September of 2020. Picked it right up! Sadly however it had to be sent back for a regulation as it was running +10 seconds per day. Luckily my local Rolex service center was able to fix that in two days, and afterwards the watch was running flawlessly.
I would love to add the Rolex Explorer II to my collection.

I have this exact model watch on order from my AD. I am hoping to get it soon. It’s a great all round quality, practical, luxury watch that you can put on your wrist and never take off. That’s my plan anyway.

Explorer II Polar is amazing in person
I tried to buy an original Explorer but at the time a famous Japanese comedian was wearing one and it had already been sold due to the buying frenzy. I think it’s size is perfect to be honest and hope to buy one in the future.

I think it is perfect, and I would like it to be my next watch! My AD said for me to wait until 4/7/21 to see if it is replaced by a different watch in that it is the 50th year anniversary for the Explorer II. I’m sure he couldn’t have gotten the current watch regardless of my desires, but I agreed to wait. I have six days left in my wait as today is 4/1/21. Happy watch hunting!

I used to work at Ain Sukhna at Sumed Oil Terminal.
I think the 16570 is the best iteration of the explorer 2 personally, the only watch Ive ever considered 'perfect'. New version is great but unnecessarily large imo..... But that's the direction most watch companies seem to be heading these days.

Great Video. Congrats on the latest acquisition. I picked up a black dial explorer 2 in December. No previous purchase history with the AD...just have to be in the right place at the right time. I was also wearing a ALS Saxonia thin, so hopefully this made the AD realise I'm a collector and not a flipper.

Hi LWC, thanks for sharing pictures of your holiday and the new rolex. I’ve actually been thinking hard about this watch in the last weeks. If I should get it ir not. Im currently waiting to get the new Submariner LV. So not sure when exactly this is coming and if it’s worth also asking for this. As you said yourself on pictures and videos 😄 it’s not as appealing as GMT master or sub. What’s your thoughts, should I really get it even though sometime soon im expecting the sub LV?

Then you better buy it in the gray market because it will never be your first one from an AD. It's one of the hardest Rolexes to acquire. I got the call from my AD early last year and I initially bought it because it intrigued me but I keep it because I have fallen in love with it. It will never leave my collection.
I was amazed the explorer one wears more like a 40mm. I have a 7.5" wrist and 42mm is my sweet spot.
I thought you were going to show us the Air King. I Had the opportunity to buy the explorer that you got or the Air King. I chose the AK and I believe,in my opinion, to be discontinued next by Rolex.
That Explorer 2 tops all your AP & Pateks except is a tie with your Nautilus.

Here's a tip, next time you're in egypt try staying at La Vista 3. It's a compound in Ain El Sokhna like the place you shot, but smaller. However it's beautiful and one of my favourite places to stay. I'd also recommend the Oberoi in Sahl Hasheesh, excellent place and lots to do!

Congrats on the watch :) I had this about 5 years ago to try if i want to keep it. All before the rolex hype. It didn't stay because i found it too big, all its proportions, didn't like that very slight yellow tint on the dial, and it just did'n feel like 6000 pounds on the wrist. I even felt back in 2014 that the ceramic no date sub didn't feel like a 5000 pounds item, which i also didn't keep.
