Please ad a extra game mode where you need builders who bring the stone and wood towards te buidlings you build. And then they will be build in around 3 seconds. This will ad an extra dimension to te game and you can't rebuild as fast and also can't make towers towards te enemy. To build something you also need to defend your villagers who bring the stone and wood for the building. (I think this would make the multiplayer way better.) You can select in your keep how many% of your total villagers will be builders.
Yes UCP support is absolutly importent!!! It already got the game into a new hight with all of its features and fixed some bugs that were in the game again. PLEASE work with the UCP team Firefly!!!
The 800x800 map is still too small. The maximum should have been 1200x1200 because there are no more hardware limitations like in 2002 that limited rendering to 400x400.

Asking gamers what they want is a recipe for disaster, because they have no clue. HAVE something then ask for feedback what can be improved, but still be very careful.
How about bringing some modders or map designers on board? The team behind the UCP has fixed numerous bugs over the years, and the designers create amazing maps. I think there's no greater honor than being part of one of the most brilliant games out there. Also, why not increase the number of AIs to 21 or 22 and launch a competition? We, the community, have been supporting this game for years, and with the Definitive Edition, a dream is coming true. So, bring us on board!
There is a key feature missing. Without it, it will not reach the highs of SHC. The UCP/Mod Support. There is such an endless supply of Community Content for the HD edition, its not stronghold anymore without it. Not just the much needed balance changes or the bug fixes. So much quality of live and customization. They are working relentless on the UCP, brought new joy into the game and kept it interesting for over 6 years now. It'll be a shame if that would go to waste. Let them help or at least give them enough access, that they can implement the UCP. We neeeed it.
I am generally excited and happy that you are doing a Definitive Edition of Crusader, since this is THE game of my childhood. It would be really good though if you would take some pointers from the makers of the Unofficial Crusader Patch, especially, when it comes to AI behavior. The Vanilla AI have so many bugs, and rough edges, which have been adressed by the Unofficial Patch (missing recruitment buildings, a snake which boxes itself in, inaccessible churches being constantly being destroyed and rebuilt, the new european lords not being able to buy weapons (Frederick etc), bad resource management, bad attack wave management + unit pathfinding, and so much more). From what I have seen, there seem be no improvements on this side so far in the demo of the Definitive edition. I would really urge Firefly to get in touch with the team of the Unofficial Crusader patch either in production for DE or to at least make sure the new version is still moddable. Because as it stands, the Original with the Community Patch might remain the superior version in several important aspects.
@ yes, the possibly also ladderman and spearman arrow resistance, because then they are actually a viable low tier unit for sieging. As well as arab swordman wall damage.
I hope the UCP patch will be compitable or even would be applied already upon launch by developers, or at least be long standing bug fixes and improvements. Apart of that thanks again for the DE version! By the way if now a gigantic maps will be available, why not increase player limit on the map to 12 or even more at the same time? A TRUE CRUSADE!
It is so important that you guys please make contact with the UCP team and work out a way to make the DE mod compatible! The community is now used to being able to create their own ai lords, own trails, maps etc. If this is not possible in a Definitive Edition, why would people want to switch from the Original Game to it? Dont look away from the many Stronghold loving fans who enrichen the game on their own time.
PLEASE edit the old AIV Files.. some castles of the AI Lords are not competitive. Snake trapping himself in his own castle, Pig not building Engeneers Guild, etc. Make them stronger!! Caliph, Wolf, Richard, Abbot, Sherrif need more gatehouses to be efficient.. you dont have to edit EVERYTHING but please look at the content some RUclipsrs made.. especially the UCP Team from Germany.. OR you allow us, your loyal community since day one, to tweak the game in some ways.. so pleaaaase make us able to mod it Also tweak the AIC a little.. Rat used to build Laddermen in SH1, Pig used Pikemen, Snake Macemen (limited amount).. give wolf knights to harrass his opponents. I cant beg you enough please fix these issues or like i sad make it moddable( is this a word? Sorry if not) When you click on the stockpile, then on a resource please make it so it directs you straight to the market, like in the original When pressing V, it used to flat the terrain just so you can see behind the buildings, please bring it back Its not that we dont appreciate your effort!! you are our childhood and we love this game so much.. thank you for giving it a go 20 years later❤ Greetings from Bavaria, from a day one fan, and sorry for my english im working on it 😂
which pig castle doesn't build engineers? also to add: a castle of Lion Heart in which he misses one house in the design rendering him frozen after a few attack waves as he has buildings without workers freezing up his economy

the only thing i want to say is PLEASE work with the UCP team even if it means to admit that the game itself isnt polished as it should be dont stay in your own way of the success the team behind UCP did such a great work everyone whould be happy to have firefly and the UCP team on the same side
Can we get the tools for texture creation and like unit animations please? :D And is there a new AIV Editor as well with the new buildings? Also will we have the ability to create custom trails and fix all the bugs of the AI; code our own attack behaviour etc.? I would love for this to be a success, i just doubt it will be plagued by the non-involvement of the epic skills of the Community who have built expertise of creating content for this game for the last 20+ years, and are very attached to their creations. Would be a shame if the backwards compatibility to the great creations of the then legacy SHC HD would all go to waste... And please: Fix the lagginess of singleplayer, where it has action delay, making it hard to doubleclick or select and command units around. (And please make ALL hotkeys adjustable and be available that were in the original game, including v and selecting buildings, as well as just at least reach feature parity with HD, else i think it ll be a blunder :/)

I'm glad that you told us more about the upcoming D.E in a slower-paced video. It's very appealing to me that it's not "tiktok-paced" and doesn't want to build a hype so that as many people as possible buy it. this means that they don't want to make a fortune, but they want to offer more to their existing players. Could you please address the topic of cooperation/compatibilty with the amazing work of the UCP? Crusader was a great game back in the days but it was the community efford that unleashed it's potential and made it fantastic. Original Crusader hat a lot of AI related bugs, some as severely as missing recruitment buildings, not enough houses or just straight up building a castle that traps the AI (looking at you, snake). Some AIs didn't even use the market correctly, attack behaviours were really odd at times, AI lords destroying almost all of there buildings... I think and really hope you yourself know all the faults I'm talking about. The UCP managed to fix a lot of these problems and only because of their work and the creativity of the modding community that is creating new AI lords Crusader managed to have such a high fan base up until today. They sat a new standard for what Crusader can be. We really wand this DE to be a success and a great game, but if it goes back to all the same bugs of that 20 years old game it will be a huge dissapointment no matter how many new things you add. We know that the UCP team reached out to you. We know that they are willing to work together with you to ensure Crusader DE will be a huge success. There is a great, experienced modding community - please talk with them and work together. Please have in mind that the more modable Crusader DE will be, the longer this great community will create content and keep players playing the game, recommending it, etc.

I have 2 questions: 1. Will there be a tool that allows you to create a campaign using pre-made maps/missions, where you can set the order of missions, add an introductory story for each mission. 2. Will it be possible to add an AI lord to the mission's scenario and include background elements like invasions and other events?
My hope for this game is a collaboration of the game developer and the community. You built the foundation of a great game, the UCP-Team and modders but also YT-Gamers created the next floors. So please structure the roof together. Btw will be SHC Extreme part of the game or a DLC? A seperate game is no answer! 🐺
I suggest you to add the personalization of forces and buildings to the game! For example, when we build a church for our castle, we can change the color of its walls according to our taste! Or, for example, to change the sword of our forces with the items that you put in the store for us! These add to the charm of the game
So happy that Crusader is back! Even if I'm not playing regulary, I still listen to the Soundtrack every few days. I'm really surprised that you added new units and I'm really excited about it. As many people mentioned, I hope to see more new units and AI Lords in future DLCs or Updates. And I would love to have mod support, maybe where AI Lords created by the community can be downloaded for skirmish in a special community tab. It can keep the game fresh for the next years (someone needs to make a Baldwin AI Lord👀)
Please please please consider compatability with the unofficial crusader patcher. It brings sooo many quality of life features and needed changes. I dont think i can ever go back to the not running by default Spearman and still have a good time while playing this game.
my dream is even bigger procedural/random maps, asymmetric resources and the estate mechanic from stronghold 2. With defeated castles remaining on the map. This is looking a step in that direction.
Hey big fan of the Stronghold series here, first off I wanted to thank you guys for all the effort and building up my childhood with your amazing games, I dearly hope that you guys won't stop at Crusader and will go for Stronghold 2 Definitive Edition aswell, When it comes to your series I am personally more of a European styled fan and Stronghold 2 was truly my favorite, The story; The systems that made your castle building and management more in depth and the characters all were top tier so if Stronghold 2 gets the same treatment like Stronghold 1 Definitive Edition and Crusader Definitive Edition I will be so grateful.
As a veteran Stronghold Crusader player, it would be cool if you could dedicate certain stockpiles to certain resources like iron + wood (located near weapons manufacturing) and wheat + hops (for food and beer). I feel like everything around the central stockpile always gets quite tight so the ability to reserve certain stockpiles for certain resources would be cool.
After playing it as a child, I later played this competitively on Gameranger for a long time! It was soooooo amazing to play on those maps with fixed rules and equal resources. You had for example 10 minutes where you can’t build units, so you train a lot to perfect your economy. Then you immediately build around 400 troops (you spam and sleep workshops) and group them after a crazy shield making process and fight while keeping your economy efficient. People invested so much love and effort to create maps and stuff. There were different guilds and really legendary players. Idk if thats still the case today, but 10 years ago everything was awesome! Great time. This Definitive Edition makes me hope for that experience again. If not somehow in this version of the game, then maybe in a revival in the competitive community. Also I am grateful and hyped for what firefly gives us here anyways. Looks great!
Again, I have to thank you for doing Stronghold Crussader DE for us, you are the best! I would just have a few small requests and ideas: please modify the old AI lords so that some also use the new units, so that they are not only used by the new ones. At the same time, I would like to be able to build over cacti, sometimes cacti really get in the way. And I would also like to see firefighters and soldiers with ladders more effective. At the same time, it might look good if trebuchets could throw fire missiles (each bullet would cost, for example, one wood and one tar). It would also be better if there were more options in skermish in multiplayer for setting up initial goods and money, like in Stronghol DE, and not to divide it into how much the player will have and how much computer lords, but to divide it by team. It would also be nice to set roughly how often random events will happen. Anyway, the main thing I would like is for the computer lords to build their castles according to several phases. The AI lord builds his castle, and even though he has the resources to improve it, he doesn't. It would now be divided into three phases. THINGS TO ADD: -Improved Ai (and option to edit it, aggressiveness etc) and also allowing Ai to use a diversity of units, like rat and snake to use pikemen so that they become stronger. -Improved Ai castles, some are not competitive at all, as someone else mentioned. It could be something as simple as adding a moat around Sultans castle, and giving him a bigger tower etc. -Improving the balance of units. Horse archers and crossbows are too overpowered. They should have shorter range than other ranged units. Maybe improve english longbowmen, giving them more range and more damage. This would also make some European Ai lords stronger, like Lionheart etc. Make fire units less overpowered. Improve health and armor of spearmen units. Shields are also too overpowered when properly used. Maybe upping the cost of certain units as well. -Option to edit world settings, like making stone and iron scarce etc. Could improve the competitiveness in multiplayer games. -In standard rules, add a range for castle building. If Stronghold is to be competitive online, having a spamfest with MASSIVE castles + MASSIVE catapult and crossbow armies are neither competitive nor fun. Balance needs to be fixed. Maybe making towers etc more expensive, costing gold + stone etc, having proper counters for all units. -Option to edit specific units in Scenario editor and making triggers etc. Would be cool to make unique scenarios, like tower defence, other mini games, making “heroes” by giving specific units kore damage/health with unique name etc, options which could allow us to create warcraft/lotr inspired scenarios etc. -I think it makes more sense that goods sell for less the more you have of them. The more you have the less it is worth. This would add strategy to the marketplace. “Should I sell now and get more gold or do I need these resources for later”. In addition it would make gold more scarce in general, which I think would add more competitiveness to the game. -Adding docks and simple ships? Could make for cool scenarios with islands etc. Simply adding fisherman and a siege boat that can transfer units, but I guess this is an idea for the next Stronghold game
Me and my older brother grew up on Stronghold: Crusader, met the devs back in EGX London few years back. Thank you for makiing our childhood and thank you for on-going support for the franchise :)
Here are my list of Suggestions: - Day and Night switch (some different strategies for enemies attack at night) and the list goes on - Give 4 or 6 saves for each or some missions (it will make the game more engaging, and will challenge the players) - Variants for different items (like wood, foods) also make it so some items use less space but takes more time to produce, vice versa - Randomize the attacks of enemies, sometimes attacks are too consistent at the same time - Strategies for enemies in attacking (like attacking only "Slaves" to just burn out the buildings, etc) - (EDIT:) Ability to download community maps to play as levels - More Maps - More Strategies - More voice lines - More buildings - More Complexity (too simple and users will leave the game) - The harder the better - More bosses maybe (i know can't happen now #sad_face) - More Machines maybe (like catapult, etc) i think this is enough
Nothing less then a dream coming true. The Demo already felt like a polished crusader. Can't wait to get my hands ob more. And to Play the co OP campaign with my dad. He Loved crusader since its release and ITS basicly the only Videogame that He ever plays 🤗
800x800 is Not enough! We Need at least 1000x1000 in order to have that AOE experience. What about fisxherman for food, and Military troops on water? This was always my biggest dream…

Alright, questions! Some of them are bound to be answered with no, that´s not in the game, but I´ll try anyway, because so far it looks really good. 1. Will old AI opponents also have beduins available to them? For example, the Wazir would work great with camel riders, since having mounted units was kinda his thing, giving him at least camel lancers would work great I think. Also, Saladdin, Caliph, Nizar... 2.Were those mosque skins I spotted at 4:18? Because that would be amazing for arabian lords, their economy would be so much more versatile! 3. I am a huge fans of the new maps. That being said, any chance with those bigger maps there will be alternative points of interest to conquer, like villages that pay tribute or camps that provide units like in Stronghold 2? That camp at 1:25 looks an awful lot like it. Thanks in advance, so far I´m a huge fan of the demo, can´t wait to try all those new units!
Such a huge W. I was a big hater of fireflys direction but it seems you turned your heads in the right direction. Im going to buy this game for all my friends if they like it or not. Finally a Game that leads justice for crusader. Still i wish we had the big maps also for stronghold 1 and a few QOL changes added after this one. Would be nice to play the original with friends sometimes for diversity reasons. Bigger maps and infinty units really makes me want to play the unreal versions too. Damn i wasnt hyped for a game like this since Diablo 2 Resurrected.
It's been a pleasure to answer these questions. I feel like it's my responsibility as a long-time Stronghold player. I truly want to thank you for all your work since the beginning of this journey. This series (alongside other books, games, etc.) shaped my childhood, and I can't thank you enough for that. I'm sure it will influence my future work as well. If I can, I don't want to die before visiting Firefly Studios and meeting the creators of this masterpiece. Besides that, troop walking, running/charging animations, and UI/UX are the only issues I have encountered. Other than that, it was a delight to play this game. In DE part 1, you released only the expansion pack, completely forgetting about balance and bugs (you can't even get a monk in the game). I hope it was because you were preparing us for Stronghold: Crusader.
I had many different ideas on how to enrich and improve the game. NGO I will write three requests. As for me personally: 1) I like the way the swordsmen from Crusader 1 move (pay attention to their step) they walk powerfully confidently step by step, like a real iron force. Take a closer look - their gait inspires awe and horror, that they will not retreat or run away. A very confident step. The second part is how they carry the sword - they hold it in their hand and almost do not move it. This creates an additional visual effect - like a statue, like a robot, without unnecessary movements, he carries the sword. The hand with the shield moves back and forth. But it is the way he holds the sword in his hand vertically and motionlessly that creates the image of a powerful ferocious unit. Personally, it seems to me that the animation of movement (step) for the European swordsman would be better taken from Crusader 1. 2) Some units are visible through the terrain and through buildings (this was in Crusader 1) 3) As it seems to me again - the color of the white mantle of knights and swordsmen (namely white color) was better and more beautiful in Crusader 1. Firefly, you created a Gem in 2002, Stronghold Crusader, played it as a kid, became my favorite game, I am 22 now and I am still playing it and it's still my favorite game of all time. I have always wanted some kind of update and I am so thankful to you for first creating a masterpiece and then making a definitive edition of it that is worth the wait ❤❤❤.
Hello, please include LAN multiplayer & co-op. I really miss this in the definitive edition of stronghold, which is a perfect game except for that. Thanks for thinking about adding it.
Mod support and multiplayer options are going to keep this game alive for years to come, please include it and don't just focus on single player campaigns. look at what AOE2 definitive edition did!
I am happy that we got Crusader DE, but also i am a bit concerned. The AI has the same Problems as the Original Game, for example Pathfinding. The Castles from the AI Characters looks also like the Original, in this Time the Modders have build Castles that have much higher Quality. The game should be at the level of UCP Crusader.
I cannot express how happy this announcement makes me! When I was a kid and Crusader came out, I played it like a mad man. And still I am installing it every 1-2 years to play some hours! Now with the Definitive Edition you bring so many great changes like larger maps, new KI opponents and new units... this makes me a very, very happy man!
Firefly, thank you for returning to the the glory days! The 2d era of Stronghold really was peak RTS (even if all you needed was an army of 30 catapults)

Question 1: Will Steam avatars be visible in cooperative mode? It would be really cool to create avatars in the style of lords with friends and fully immerse ourselves in the game. Will they be visible from Steam, or will there be a way to upload them into the game? Question 2: As an old player, I found it uncomfortable to play the demo with the building panel in the bottom right corner. It used to be in the middle before. Will it be possible to change this in the future, or is this already a final decision? Question 3: Will the campaigns be just as large? (30 missions like before) Question 4: Will the quotes on F1-F12 be returned? "I won and you lost again"? Question 5: Will you honor me with a 1vs1 match when the game is released, or are you afraid of the Lordik_SeVsus?
Better believe every other game I've been playing up to the release of this will be immediately put on hold until 2026... this is how you build on amazing old games and how you keep a fan base alive and happy:) love you Firefly.
I've been playing Stronghold since I was old enough to use a computer, Crusader was always my favorite because I could be trade partners with everyone, this is like a dream come true, thanks Firefly!
Excellent. I was waiting for this video! I have a couple questions: - In the original crusader you could create a custom portrait for yourself for others to see. Will we be able to do something similar this time? - If we're able to have twice as large maps, would it be possible to support more than 8 players? If so, would it be possible to have more playable colors not already present? Like Brown, light gray or pink? - May we have expanded customizable rules for skirmish modes so we can finetune the experience further?
I really need the best possible tools to create AI characters and AI villages myself and to extend/improve the existing ones. The crusader DE will only be 20% of how good i could be without mod support. Let's make the best Stronghold Crusader we could possibly imagine!

Please use the UCP and work together with the UCP-developer team! At the utmost minimum: look at what they accomplished and try to implement their features and make the game mod compatible so that the UCP-Team gets a solid ground to continue their work!
@firefly For a new Crusader with all UCP3 Features!!! + community content + bigger maps! in one game with multiplayer - I'd pay - 50-60€. (Even tho I already have 3 Crusader-CDs at home) I DON'T want/need new units, grafic - okay-towers look good but maps, missions and AIs can be done and given you for free by the community. I love the idea of a co-op trail but the UCP updates are MOST relevant!!! You have the chance to make the best stronghold crusader of all times, so please take the time and don't ruin it! It will be worth it.
This is just wonderful! The first time I experienced Crusader was when I played the demo version back in the day, right around the time it was first released. I still remember going up against 'The Rat' in that mission ..it completely blew my mind! When i realised that i can put archers on any place of the wall was just WOWW.. I switched immediately from age of empires 2 to stronghold crusader and it is my game for life. 2 days ago i played new demo version haha and i can say it is such a thrill :D :D. The nostalgic feeling mixed with new freshens is the way! The crusader DE demo is 5/5 .. i even played stronghold de for few missions to get a feeling how the crusader remaster/de would feel and now i can just say it is brilliant. The only thing it is missing for me in new DE version is the ability when you click on stockpile and click on stone/wood or whatever.. nothing happens :( . In original stronghold crusader it would immediately switch you to marketplace where you can buy/sell resources. The same is with armoury. Nothing happens.. you can only see how much of supply you have but need to click on marketplace first to buy and sell stuff. So a big shout to developers .. PLEEEASEEE bring this function back. :D but over all. THANK YOU developers for all the effort and troubles for making new release of this game!

The 800x800 map is still too small. The maximum should have been 1200x1200 because there are no more hardware limitations like in 2002 that limited rendering to 400x400.

How about bringing some modders or map designers on board? The team behind the UCP has fixed numerous bugs over the years, and the designers create amazing maps. I think there's no greater honor than being part of one of the most brilliant games out there.
Also, why not increase the number of AIs to 21 or 22 and launch a competition? We, the community, have been supporting this game for years, and with the Definitive Edition, a dream is coming true. So, bring us on board!
There is a key feature missing. Without it, it will not reach the highs of SHC. The UCP/Mod Support.
There is such an endless supply of Community Content for the HD edition, its not stronghold anymore without it.
Not just the much needed balance changes or the bug fixes. So much quality of live and customization.
They are working relentless on the UCP, brought new joy into the game and kept it interesting for over 6 years now. It'll be a shame if that would go to waste. Let them help or at least give them enough access, that they can implement the UCP.

I am generally excited and happy that you are doing a Definitive Edition of Crusader, since this is THE game of my childhood.
It would be really good though if you would take some pointers from the makers of the Unofficial Crusader Patch, especially, when it comes to AI behavior. The Vanilla AI have so many bugs, and rough edges, which have been adressed by the Unofficial Patch (missing recruitment buildings, a snake which boxes itself in, inaccessible churches being constantly being destroyed and rebuilt, the new european lords not being able to buy weapons (Frederick etc), bad resource management, bad attack wave management + unit pathfinding, and so much more). From what I have seen, there seem be no improvements on this side so far in the demo of the Definitive edition.
I would really urge Firefly to get in touch with the team of the Unofficial Crusader patch either in production for DE or to at least make sure the new version is still moddable. Because as it stands, the Original with the Community Patch might remain the superior version in several important aspects.

I use the UCP and I recommend the Spearmen Sprinting, Apothecary Healer, and Quicker Gates with Smaller Radius. And start troop customization.

I hope the UCP patch will be compitable or even would be applied already upon launch by developers, or at least be long standing bug fixes and improvements. Apart of that thanks again for the DE version! By the way if now a gigantic maps will be available, why not increase player limit on the map to 12 or even more at the same time? A TRUE CRUSADE!

It is so important that you guys please make contact with the UCP team and work out a way to make the DE mod compatible! The community is now used to being able to create their own ai lords, own trails, maps etc.
If this is not possible in a Definitive Edition, why would people want to switch from the Original Game to it? Dont look away from the many Stronghold loving fans who enrichen the game on their own time.
PLEASE edit the old AIV Files.. some castles of the AI Lords are not competitive. Snake trapping himself in his own castle, Pig not building Engeneers Guild, etc.
Make them stronger!! Caliph, Wolf, Richard, Abbot, Sherrif need more gatehouses to be efficient.. you dont have to edit EVERYTHING but please look at the content some RUclipsrs made.. especially the UCP Team from Germany..
OR you allow us, your loyal community since day one, to tweak the game in some ways.. so pleaaaase make us able to mod it
Also tweak the AIC a little.. Rat used to build Laddermen in SH1, Pig used Pikemen, Snake Macemen (limited amount).. give wolf knights to harrass his opponents.

When you click on the stockpile, then on a resource please make it so it directs you straight to the market, like in the original
When pressing V, it used to flat the terrain just so you can see behind the buildings, please bring it back

I would love for this to be a success, i just doubt it will be plagued by the non-involvement of the epic skills of the Community who have built expertise of creating content for this game for the last 20+ years, and are very attached to their creations. Would be a shame if the backwards compatibility to the great creations of the then legacy SHC HD would all go to waste...
And please: Fix the lagginess of singleplayer, where it has action delay, making it hard to doubleclick or select and command units around. (And please make ALL hotkeys adjustable and be available that were in the original game, including v and selecting buildings, as well as just at least reach feature parity with HD, else i think it ll be a blunder :/)

The javelin throwers have way too much range. It should be half of the range of an archer. (I do like the designs of the new units and lords though!)

They are very annoying and unrealistically have the same range as bows and or crossbows with better accuracy it seems
I'm glad that you told us more about the upcoming D.E in a slower-paced video. It's very appealing to me that it's not "tiktok-paced" and doesn't want to build a hype so that as many people as possible buy it. this means that they don't want to make a fortune, but they want to offer more to their existing players.

Could you please address the topic of cooperation/compatibilty with the amazing work of the UCP?
Crusader was a great game back in the days but it was the community efford that unleashed it's potential and made it fantastic. Original Crusader hat a lot of AI related bugs, some as severely as missing recruitment buildings, not enough houses or just straight up building a castle that traps the AI (looking at you, snake). Some AIs didn't even use the market correctly, attack behaviours were really odd at times, AI lords destroying almost all of there buildings... I think and really hope you yourself know all the faults I'm talking about.
The UCP managed to fix a lot of these problems and only because of their work and the creativity of the modding community that is creating new AI lords Crusader managed to have such a high fan base up until today. They sat a new standard for what Crusader can be. We really wand this DE to be a success and a great game, but if it goes back to all the same bugs of that 20 years old game it will be a huge dissapointment no matter how many new things you add.
We know that the UCP team reached out to you. We know that they are willing to work together with you to ensure Crusader DE will be a huge success. There is a great, experienced modding community - please talk with them and work together. Please have in mind that the more modable Crusader DE will be, the longer this great community will create content and keep players playing the game, recommending it, etc.

I have 2 questions:
1. Will there be a tool that allows you to create a campaign using pre-made maps/missions, where you can set the order of missions, add an introductory story for each mission.
2. Will it be possible to add an AI lord to the mission's scenario and include background elements like invasions and other events?
My hope for this game is a collaboration of the game developer and the community. You built the foundation of a great game, the UCP-Team and modders but also YT-Gamers created the next floors. So please structure the roof together.
Btw will be SHC Extreme part of the game or a DLC? A seperate game is no answer! 🐺
I suggest you to add the personalization of forces and buildings to the game! For example, when we build a church for our castle, we can change the color of its walls according to our taste! Or, for example, to change the sword of our forces with the items that you put in the store for us! These add to the charm of the game
So happy that Crusader is back! Even if I'm not playing regulary, I still listen to the Soundtrack every few days. I'm really surprised that you added new units and I'm really excited about it. As many people mentioned, I hope to see more new units and AI Lords in future DLCs or Updates. And I would love to have mod support, maybe where AI Lords created by the community can be downloaded for skirmish in a special community tab. It can keep the game fresh for the next years (someone needs to make a Baldwin AI Lord👀)
Please please please consider compatability with the unofficial crusader patcher. It brings sooo many quality of life features and needed changes. I dont think i can ever go back to the not running by default Spearman and still have a good time while playing this game.
What kind of DLC do you plan? You eg said there will be "four new characters at launch" so I assume you plan to add four others with additional DLCs?

Hey big fan of the Stronghold series here, first off I wanted to thank you guys for all the effort and building up my childhood with your amazing games, I dearly hope that you guys won't stop at Crusader and will go for Stronghold 2 Definitive Edition aswell, When it comes to your series I am personally more of a European styled fan and Stronghold 2 was truly my favorite, The story; The systems that made your castle building and management more in depth and the characters all were top tier so if Stronghold 2 gets the same treatment like Stronghold 1 Definitive Edition and Crusader Definitive Edition I will be so grateful.
As a veteran Stronghold Crusader player, it would be cool if you could dedicate certain stockpiles to certain resources like iron + wood (located near weapons manufacturing) and wheat + hops (for food and beer). I feel like everything around the central stockpile always gets quite tight so the ability to reserve certain stockpiles for certain resources would be cool.
After playing it as a child, I later played this competitively on Gameranger for a long time! It was soooooo amazing to play on those maps with fixed rules and equal resources. You had for example 10 minutes where you can’t build units, so you train a lot to perfect your economy. Then you immediately build around 400 troops (you spam and sleep workshops) and group them after a crazy shield making process and fight while keeping your economy efficient. People invested so much love and effort to create maps and stuff. There were different guilds and really legendary players. Idk if thats still the case today, but 10 years ago everything was awesome! Great time. This Definitive Edition makes me hope for that experience again. If not somehow in this version of the game, then maybe in a revival in the competitive community. Also I am grateful and hyped for what firefly gives us here anyways. Looks great!

Again, I have to thank you for doing Stronghold Crussader DE for us, you are the best! I would just have a few small requests and ideas: please modify the old AI lords so that some also use the new units, so that they are not only used by the new ones. At the same time, I would like to be able to build over cacti, sometimes cacti really get in the way. And I would also like to see firefighters and soldiers with ladders more effective. At the same time, it might look good if trebuchets could throw fire missiles (each bullet would cost, for example, one wood and one tar). It would also be better if there were more options in skermish in multiplayer for setting up initial goods and money, like in Stronghol DE, and not to divide it into how much the player will have and how much computer lords, but to divide it by team. It would also be nice to set roughly how often random events will happen. Anyway, the main thing I would like is for the computer lords to build their castles according to several phases. The AI lord builds his castle, and even though he has the resources to improve it, he doesn't. It would now be divided into three phases. THINGS TO ADD:
-Improved Ai (and option to edit it, aggressiveness etc) and also allowing Ai to use a diversity of units, like rat and snake to use pikemen so that they become stronger.
-Improved Ai castles, some are not competitive at all, as someone else mentioned. It could be something as simple as adding a moat around Sultans castle, and giving him a bigger tower etc.
-Improving the balance of units. Horse archers and crossbows are too overpowered. They should have shorter range than other ranged units. Maybe improve english longbowmen, giving them more range and more damage. This would also make some European Ai lords stronger, like Lionheart etc. Make fire units less overpowered. Improve health and armor of spearmen units. Shields are also too overpowered when properly used. Maybe upping the cost of certain units as well.
-Option to edit world settings, like making stone and iron scarce etc. Could improve the competitiveness in multiplayer games.
-In standard rules, add a range for castle building. If Stronghold is to be competitive online, having a spamfest with MASSIVE castles + MASSIVE catapult and crossbow armies are neither competitive nor fun. Balance needs to be fixed. Maybe making towers etc more expensive, costing gold + stone etc, having proper counters for all units.
-Option to edit specific units in Scenario editor and making triggers etc. Would be cool to make unique scenarios, like tower defence, other mini games, making “heroes” by giving specific units kore damage/health with unique name etc, options which could allow us to create warcraft/lotr inspired scenarios etc.
-I think it makes more sense that goods sell for less the more you have of them. The more you have the less it is worth. This would add strategy to the marketplace. “Should I sell now and get more gold or do I need these resources for later”. In addition it would make gold more scarce in general, which I think would add more competitiveness to the game.
-Adding docks and simple ships? Could make for cool scenarios with islands etc. Simply adding fisherman and a siege boat that can transfer units, but I guess this is an idea for the next Stronghold game

Please take into account the community that made the UCP mod, give them the tools so they can work on this new stronghold
Here are my list of Suggestions:
- Day and Night switch (some different strategies for enemies attack at night) and the list goes on
- Give 4 or 6 saves for each or some missions (it will make the game more engaging, and will challenge the players)
- Variants for different items (like wood, foods) also make it so some items use less space but takes more time to produce, vice versa
- Randomize the attacks of enemies, sometimes attacks are too consistent at the same time
- Strategies for enemies in attacking (like attacking only "Slaves" to just burn out the buildings, etc)
- (EDIT:) Ability to download community maps to play as levels
- More Maps
- More Strategies
- More voice lines
- More buildings
- More Complexity (too simple and users will leave the game)
- The harder the better
- More bosses maybe (i know can't happen now #sad_face)
- More Machines maybe (like catapult, etc)

on the previous version,the limitation on troops was annoying. It will make more fun to have more troops in both sides(Us and the enemy).
Alright, questions! Some of them are bound to be answered with no, that´s not in the game, but I´ll try anyway, because so far it looks really good.
1. Will old AI opponents also have beduins available to them? For example, the Wazir would work great with camel riders, since having mounted units was kinda his thing, giving him at least camel lancers would work great I think. Also, Saladdin, Caliph, Nizar...
2.Were those mosque skins I spotted at 4:18? Because that would be amazing for arabian lords, their economy would be so much more versatile!
3. I am a huge fans of the new maps. That being said, any chance with those bigger maps there will be alternative points of interest to conquer, like villages that pay tribute or camps that provide units like in Stronghold 2? That camp at 1:25 looks an awful lot like it.

Such a huge W. I was a big hater of fireflys direction but it seems you turned your heads in the right direction. Im going to buy this game for all my friends if they like it or not. Finally a Game that leads justice for crusader. Still i wish we had the big maps also for stronghold 1 and a few QOL changes added after this one. Would be nice to play the original with friends sometimes for diversity reasons. Bigger maps and infinty units really makes me want to play the unreal versions too. Damn i wasnt hyped for a game like this since Diablo 2 Resurrected.

It's been a pleasure to answer these questions. I feel like it's my responsibility as a long-time Stronghold player. I truly want to thank you for all your work since the beginning of this journey. This series (alongside other books, games, etc.) shaped my childhood, and I can't thank you enough for that. I'm sure it will influence my future work as well. If I can, I don't want to die before visiting Firefly Studios and meeting the creators of this masterpiece.
Besides that, troop walking, running/charging animations, and UI/UX are the only issues I have encountered. Other than that, it was a delight to play this game. I hope you guys achieve even more amazing things in the future. Good luck!

please support the game after release not only with dlc but also with balance patches and bug fixes. In DE part 1, you released only the expansion pack, completely forgetting about balance and bugs (you can't even get a monk in the game). I hope it was because you were preparing us for Stronghold: Crusader.
I had many different ideas on how to enrich and improve the game. NGO I will write three requests. As for me personally:
1) I like the way the swordsmen from Crusader 1 move (pay attention to their step) they walk powerfully confidently step by step, like a real iron force. Take a closer look - their gait inspires awe and horror, that they will not retreat or run away. A very confident step. The second part is how they carry the sword - they hold it in their hand and almost do not move it. This creates an additional visual effect - like a statue, like a robot, without unnecessary movements, he carries the sword. The hand with the shield moves back and forth. But it is the way he holds the sword in his hand vertically and motionlessly that creates the image of a powerful ferocious unit. Personally, it seems to me that the animation of movement (step) for the European swordsman would be better taken from Crusader 1.
2) Some units are visible through the terrain and through buildings (this was in Crusader 1)
3) As it seems to me again - the color of the white mantle of knights and swordsmen (namely white color) was better and more beautiful in Crusader 1. Here is a beautiful white saturated and not very bright color.

Firefly, you created a Gem in 2002, Stronghold Crusader, played it as a kid, became my favorite game, I am 22 now and I am still playing it and it's still my favorite game of all time. I am happy that we got Crusader DE, but also i am a bit concerned. The AI has the same Problems as the Original Game, for example Pathfinding.
The Castles from the AI Characters looks also like the Original, in this Time the Modders have build Castles that have much higher Quality.
The game should be at the level of UCP Crusader.

When I was a kid and Crusader came out, I played it like a mad man. And still I am installing it every 1-2 years to play some hours!

Firefly, thank you for returning to the the glory days! The 2d era of Stronghold really was peak RTS (even if all you needed was an army of 30 catapults)

Question 1:
Will Steam avatars be visible in cooperative mode? It would be really cool to create avatars in the style of lords with friends and fully immerse ourselves in the game. Will they be visible from Steam, or will there be a way to upload them into the game?
Question 2:
As an old player, I found it uncomfortable to play the demo with the building panel in the bottom right corner. It used to be in the middle before. Will it be possible to change this in the future, or is this already a final decision?
Question 3:
Will the campaigns be just as large? (30 missions like before)
Question 4:
Will the quotes on F1-F12 be returned?
"I won and you lost again"?
Question 5:
Will you honor me with a 1vs1 match when the game is released, or are you afraid of the Lordik_SeVsus?
Better believe every other game I've been playing up to the release of this will be immediately put on hold until 2026... this is how you build on amazing old games and how you keep a fan base alive and happy:) love you Firefly.
I've been playing Stronghold since I was old enough to use a computer, Crusader was always my favorite because I could be trade partners with everyone, this is like a dream come true, thanks Firefly!
Excellent. I was waiting for this video! I have a couple questions:
- In the original crusader you could create a custom portrait for yourself for others to see. Will we be able to do something similar this time?
- If we're able to have twice as large maps, would it be possible to support more than 8 players? If so, would it be possible to have more playable colors not already present? Like Brown, light gray or pink?
- May we have expanded customizable rules for skirmish modes so we can finetune the experience further?
I really need the best possible tools to create AI characters and AI villages myself and to extend/improve the existing ones. The crusader DE will only be 20% of how good i could be without mod support.
Let's make the best Stronghold Crusader we could possibly imagine!

During the past 20 years I (As a native Arabic speaker) was thinking the Assassins saying: الأفكار تتحرك "Ideas are Moving" just recently understood that they're saying IN DEEP VOICE: الأفعى تتحرك "Snake is moving"
Please use the UCP and work together with the UCP-developer team! At the utmost minimum: look at what they accomplished and try to implement their features and make the game mod compatible so that the UCP-Team gets a solid ground to continue their work!

@firefly For a new Crusader with all UCP3 Features!!! + community content + bigger maps! in one game with multiplayer - I'd pay - 50-60€. (Even tho I already have 3 Crusader-CDs at home) I DON'T want/need new units, grafic - okay-towers look good but maps, missions and AIs can be done and given you for free by the community. I love the idea of a co-op trail but the UCP updates are MOST relevant!!! You have the chance to make the best stronghold crusader of all times, so please take the time and don't ruin it! It will be worth it.
This is just wonderful! The first time I experienced Crusader was when I played the demo version back in the day, right around the time it was first released. I still remember going up against 'The Rat' in that mission ..it completely blew my mind! When i realised that i can put archers on any place of the wall was just WOWW.. I switched immediately from age of empires 2 to stronghold crusader and it is my game for life. 2 days ago i played new demo version haha and i can say it is such a thrill :D :D. The nostalgic feeling mixed with new freshens is the way! The crusader DE demo is 5/5 .. i even played stronghold de for few missions to get a feeling how the crusader remaster/de would feel and now i can just say it is brilliant.
The only thing it is missing for me in new DE version is the ability when you click on stockpile and click on stone/wood or whatever.. nothing happens :( . In original stronghold crusader it would immediately switch you to marketplace where you can buy/sell resources. The same is with armoury. Nothing happens.. you can only see how much of supply you have but need to click on marketplace first to buy and sell stuff.
So a big shout to developers .. PLEEEASEEE bring this function back. :D
but over all. THANK YOU developers for all the effort and troubles for making new release of this game!
