I have had this device for a few years now, used it with my iPad and iPhone. I bought it specifically because it was nearly full-sized, hefty, with proper spacing between keys like an Enhanced 101, because typing on a tiny cramped keyboard does not match my touch typing muscle memory. In fact, every flaw you listed is a feature that I targeted. Different strokes for different folks.

@@grawakendream8980 Not sure exactly what you mean, but if your keys aren't working, then it's possible that cleaning the keyboard could help. Most keyboards can be dismantled (carefully, and with photographs beforehand so you know how to re-assemble it) so you can clean the contacts for the switches. Or to give you access to replace a broken switch. It takes dexterity and patience, but it may be possible. Generally I'd advise doing searches for videos on keyboard repair, cleaning, and maintenance.

Its perfect for at home, on the go with my surface pro, or even with my phone at my home station, where i can easily switch to any of the three on the fly. Its just about the same size of my surface pro and fits perfectly into the extra slot in my laptop bag. I've taken it with my around the world. Very durable. I've had to clean it out a few times. comes apart easy, despite the number of screws. The keys are responsive even if its using a silicon membrane. I'm very satisfied with this keyboard, even if I do alot of typing. I occasionally miss the number keys, but its never been an issue.

Dude I have been looking online to see if anyone else had any issues with the actual typing experience, as a guy who recently bought this keyboard and are considering returning it because of the typing experience. And so far you hit the nail on the head, not necessarily the spacing, but god damn the keys feel so hard to push down I end up typing at a snails pace, and even bizarrely I find that tapping on the edge results in it not being registered, and you need to hit smack dab in the center of the key for it to register which just crippled my typing efficiency. I don't know if anyone else also has this problem, cause none of the reviews I've seen so far (save for maybe this video) be it on Amazon or elsewhere have brought that up. So thanks, glad to know I'm not alone in that opinion.

I purchased this keyboard because at the time I did not have a pc and needed to type papers on a cell phone. This is a great use case scenario as it worked well for me (though I did have to take my case off of my phone to make it fit). By the way, the keyboard is heavy so that it does not tip over while using heavier tablets in portrait mode. The keys could be better, but I don't think it is that bad. I would say that it is actually really good for rubber dome keyboards. I am still able to hit 90-100wpm on this keyboard vs 100-110wpm on a mechanical keyboard. Now that I am in a different place in life and I have a real computer, I will say that the biggest reason that I do not continue to use it in my setup is that I use the F keys a lot in windows and those are setup as secondary buttons to the media keys rather than primary buttons. Wanna close something out? alt + fn +f4. That's annoying. But if you're typing on Android, it's a lot better that way as you need the media keys a lot more. MSRP is $34.99 on this one, you can usually find it on sale locally for $25-$30, I really don't think that there's a multi-mobile device keyboard that can compete on any level with this one at this price point.

The size of this keyboard is good and the keys are well spaced. However, the chunkiness not withstanding, the issue with this keyboard is that typing on it is so hard - every time I type a few lines, I end up missing letters because keys tend to not register unless your fingers don't hit them in a certain way. I got faster speeds when using the tiny K230.

smaller and lighter may result in toppling when a device "ipad" is insert into the bracket. it comes from a product design perspective and not estatic only. if it is smaller than the weight will have to increase to counter balance it.

I work in Mobile Application Development. I've been using this keyboard for over 5 years, I use it in my workstation with a Mac and multiple devices such as iPads/Tablets/iPhone, etc, I was the first one in the company to request this keyboard as a "concept test" for "standard keyboard" for everyone else. Every new developer in my team receives one of these and all of them are more than happy with it, it's just matter of perspective.. I also have a G Skill Rip Jaws KM750 for my personal setup and I have to say this: Despite the obvious differences on the switch from cherry brown to membrane keyboard, I love both of them, I have no struggle to change from one to another and I found very comfortable this Logitech K480. If I have to say one negative thing is the cleaning, since is very tricky to disassemble it and clean. Obvious you can clean the surface but to clean the keys and the membrane and all of it, it's just chaotic (just like almost every membrane keyboard).
So, for personal daily keyboard/gaming I would not recommend Logitech K480, but for work? ABSOLUTELY.

I have been using this keyboard, for about 3 years with 3 devices; I use a Logitech Pebble mouse also with my iPad. The K480 can hold my iPad in portrait mode & my iPhone SE2 in portrait mode side by side, allowing me to switch the keyboard between the 2 devices. I also have the K380 as my desktop keyboard with a 2018 Mac mini & a Logitech M590 2-device mouse. Not much/any distance in key placement/spacing & key travel between the K380 & K480 to me; I chose both for low cost, compactness & similarity to the keyboard on my old, Late 2011, 13 inch MacBook Pro that got me thru school & beyond.

The needed that "empty space above the slot" for weight distribution. With a tablet hanging backwards in the slant, you need extra heft up there. If it wasn't for that forehead, any tablet you put in the thing would make the keyboard tip upwards and fall over. Basic physics.

I got mine at Goodwill for $5. It's paired with my iPhone, iPad and whatever computer I"m working on--either Windows or Mac. I use a lot of apps including video and graphics--to many to learn a whole bunch of keyboard shortcuts, so use the Touch Portal app to program macros/shortcuts to control the computer with my iPad. So my iPad sits in the slot in the kb in front of my monitor setup. Or if I'm writing on the computer I might have a different messaging app open on each device if I'm needed for work. For carrying I don't find the size/weight troublesome at all as an iPad companion. Key action felt a bit clumsy at first but not too bad, and I'm well used to it now.

Counterbalance. Yup, counterbalance was the subject the day you missed physics class. I think I could be a produect reviewer if all I had to do was thoughlessly shoot from the hip without ever considering the reason WHY a product was designed the way it was. The good news is, Logitech did not listen to The Little Engineer Who Couldn't when designing the K480. It is a sturdy keyboard that....remains flat on the desk (maybe job 1 of ANY keyboard) even with an iPad inserted in the groove. Imagine how difficult the typing would be with the underside of the keyboard facing facing you and perpendicular to the desktop. Possibly the most thoughtness (useless) tech review on the web. There, I said it. The harsh truth about this review.

I am referring to one of the commentators about using a metal body to decrease the size; Well in my opinion if they use the metal body just to decrease the size then the metal body can actually create a weight on it.. Then it will get back to square to those who doesn't like to carry heavy bag... I noticed people have a habit to put a lot of unnecessary item inside the bsg.. Then just remove them.. Take only what you need.

Not sure why but on Amazon, Logitech Store has 2 different pages for the K480. From what I've seen, they look identical, except for the price. One is originally $57.94, currently discounted to $48.99 while the other is originally $49.99, currently discounted to $29.99. For $30, I think it's a decent keyboard, but it only makes sense if you actually need to use the cradle. If not, it's way too bulky of a keyboard like you've mentioned.

There is no appeal nor portability feature for the k480 and the k380 need a stand for your device T_T , i mean they're just bulky and thicc (in a bad way ;) ), plus when u know that 5 or 4 years earlier, there was only one version of the keys to go and it was for pc and android. but now its only for apple. I totally agree with you the typing experience is terrible, one of the worst to be honest. Took me a helluva time to get use to it. So many times when I hit the BACK key it stuck if I don’t hit it down the perfect angle. The bar where you are suppose to have iPad inserted into is too wide and my iPad fell out so many times, finally my iPad dropped on the floor and broke. If you are trusting the keyboard to hold your iPad tightly in the bar while you are holding the keyboard instead of the iPad, well DON’T, I made the same mistake so many times. Now I have a broken iPad. However, back to value for money, if it wasn’t partially responsible for my broken iPad, it’s still is a good multi-feature keyboard for day to day use, it does the job, but that’s it.

    1. It’s heavy on purpose, I love how much balanced it is and my ipad has never toppled over
    2. I agree Keys sound is a personal preference but for the and features anyone can compromise with it, I am not saying sound is bad imo sound is pretty good and typing experience is amazing as well it took about a week for me to get comfortable with it but now it feels like a charm.
    3. BUILD QUALITY IS BAD after about an year of use the rubber of the dial came off, the silicon phone holder is cracking/small bits of are coming off and the inside part is really hard to clean moreover if you hold the keyboard and apply pressure on the sides there is a squeaking sound which does feel cheap
    4. Logitech branding part is long on top but again it serves a purpose of maintaining the centre of mass and aligns the centre of mass of tab/ipad which nullify the torque produced hence ipad doesn’t fall off and even if you try to push the top of the device up to a certain angle whole keyboard will come back to original position
OVERALL THE DEVICE IS GREAT AND WORTH BUYING

There’s also more room on the back to balance an iPad.

You're not wrong about the typing but I quite like the typing on it since it has spaced out keys since I have what I would consider quite chunky & large hands. I also like the sounds of the keys since I am a chicken pecking typer and I don't type with the sheer speed of a super car. Regardless you do have some good points on this keyboard. I will admit that it could be better. I am glad to know that I have typed this coment on this exact keyboard

I type around 8-10 hours a day and I've been using this for my professional work. The keys are a little hard to press but trust me, you get used to it. I can say this is a good keyboard if you are tight on budget. I bought this when I was in Uni because I wanted it for my ipad but I got so used to it that I'm using it for my work without any issues at all.

i'm guessing it's heavy to balance the device you can stand up in the slot?
Bulky? lol. it's tiny and can fit in any bag.
i picked one up at a thrift store for 5 bucks and i love it

I am returning this for the exact same reason - the weight and the size. It needs the weight but the design is so obsolete for 2020 and 21 and now 22 soon. I thought the make an opinion video on this but as it's already here - don't need too :)

I bought this keyboard since I cannot afford a Smart Keyboard Folio for my iPad, and with my limited space of my desk, I can able to switch Bluetooths between Windows and iPad.
    You're just mad lmao

Basically I've been using this particular keyboard for years, and haven't found anything wrong with it. But given I found this at a local Charity Shop for $3AU while the retail stores had it for $59-79AU, speaks volumes towards my good luck. I did need to replace an old Bluetooth keyboard, so this was the perfect deal. Talk about good timing!

I bought my K480 second hand in mid 2017, from the local branch of a national pawnbroking chain, for use with Android 10.1in tablets.
The difference between the dark grey underside and black top, is not something I especially paid attention to. The bright yellow of the dial and the device slot though, to me that has always looked glaring ugly. That bright yellow should have been the same light grey as used on the white K480.
Its weight has to be substantial, as it is able to easily handle a 10.1in tablet, in portrait mode, without toppling over backwards. Removing the rear overhang would likely unbalance the keyboard for use with tablets in portrait mode.
The typing feel has never been what I could call nice. The keypress and break point of the keys feels like an inexpensive PC-AT keyboard from the late 1990s/early 2000s that you'd have bought from Target or KMart.
I've always liked the key spacing of the K480, as I came to it from full size PC-AT keyboards. The feel of the sculpted hollows of the keytops is nice as my fingerpads drop straight into the hollows. I find flat key top, scissor action, notebook style keyboards unpleasant to use. A K480 with proper mechanical key mechanisms would be a joy to use.
The dial, to me feels ok, with clear detent stops, but it would have benefited from ridging on the left edge of its rim, to aid gripping when you slide your finger or thumb on it to change devices.
Would I recommend the K480? That comes down to what you'd use the keyboard with. For folks who have a tablet and case, no. The K380 is the better option there.
Folks like me who don't use a case on their tablet, or for phone users, the device slot on the K480 is an absolute essential thing to have. For users in these groups, K480, no ifs, buts, or maybes.

I agree that it's heavy, but I don't think that we can expect that it could hold the tablet and phone and not be heavy at the same time.. It is just the law of physics... 😎

Logitech is a well known company and i think they have done a fantastic marketing job coming up with the requirement specifications of this keyboard. Its exactly what I needed. I process emails best on outlook mobile version instead of desktop. Switching to bluetooth keyboard with the dial is intelligent design. The weight and sturdiness ensures there is no toppling of mobile phone. The keys are sufficiently sized - the keyboard is portable size and the keys are desktop keyboard size. Tried to make best tradeoff. I am looking forward to future premium versions of this design, something that is also mentioned in this video.

The keys feels nothing like a typewriter. I will agree that they feel a bit cheap. I got mine brand new off of Facebook Marketplace for $20 so for that price I thought it was worth it. I have a an 11” iPad Pro that I use uncased and I’m not a fan of how is sits in the slot in landscape mode.
