    It's heartwarming to see how much slack you leave, here in Italy they pull the exact amount from the split tray to the house termination box for the router 🥲. I had to fool them and mark a position 10 meters far from the router real installation, so i had the chance to pull back a couple loops for slack. 😅

    Many people worry that too shallow a buried optical cable will affect its use, but in fact, due to the armor of the outdoor optical cable itself, it is not so easily damaged. Theoretically, 15CM of backfill soil is enough without being damaged by external forces.

    • @jfbeam
      @jfbeam 4 дня назад

      Other than heavy vehicles driving rocks into it at the driveway. Shallow burial can end up with it floating to the surface, or yard care hitting it. (hint: this wasn't 15cm / 6in)

    Here in the UK we are fortunate that our national telco has installed ducting to every house where service is UG. When fibre comes along they fish through the existing duct up to the customers property then penetrate the wall and install an ONT.
    If no existing duct is available they'll install at your cost. If the duct is blocked they will clear it free of charge though. I had an engineer here for 3 hours fishing a fibre through my duct to the street, and the pit is practically at the bottom of my drive like this one was! 😂
    Aerial is a little simpler as they can just tag onto the existing copper and use that route.
    Businesses are a little more tricky though as generally they're having more than a single strand. In these cases they'll often put a splice point outside.
    We have a weird setup where Openreach own and maintain most of the physical infrastructure but are forced to allow other telcos to lease it. I guess that way they can enforce standards - or so they say!

    Great work if your goal is job security. Going through a gravel driveway should be deeper and/or in conduit for added protection and ease of access in the future. Also, 2-3 inch depth in the lawn is just asking to get cut if they aerate the lawn. Finally, no conduit leading up the the NID or even a clamp securing the fiber? I assume you are a sub contractor who is paid per job?

    Nice video, was very interesting to see how fiber is installed.
    However, I do have some questions, why do you take pictures during the installation?
    Is it going to part of some final report and proof the install was done correctly to show to the customer or more because of dogging any possible liabilty of incorrect install?
    Other final question, why is the fiber cable places just a few inch under the grass without any protection?
    Would it be better to have digged in deep some sort of pipe and have the fibre cable blown in that pipe, or is it a choice of the customer and less work is more cheap?
    Thank you in advance

    • @naturallyrootedgrowers
      @naturallyrootedgrowers  3 месяца назад +3

      The employers like to have us upload certain pics to prove codes we are claiming for payment , but it also shows some quality checks they wanna see. It may not be super deep but the plastic and fiberglass rods inside the jacket really protect the tiny fiber. It can take a decent hit from a shovel before it was damaged. The customer would have to have a pipe installed before we arrive, we dont provide them.

That cable would be history with no markings or knowledge of what you are digging into. I install cabling through building and I understand you have a job to do, but this is a problem waiting to happen. Are there building codes that require a deeper installation?

    That is too shallow for a driveway in Cablevision 18" to 24" is the requirement and PVC schedule 30 under driveways they will cut that if they blacktop the drive. I did fiber design and coax construction for 35 years this dig would not fly under that driveway in the company I worked for. I hatted that dig for the drop run up too the home in the winter and rain, that depth was standard for service tech replacement.

    Nice clean job. I am waiting on my local utility company to finish my neighborhood's underground install. They installed the orange conduit 10 months ago and have not been back since then to install the fiber cable in the conduits. They have pushed forward the availability date three times now. First it was mid summer 2023, then fall 2023, then early 2024 and now they are saying they will call when it is available. They were claiming supply chain issues. Do you see supply issues? Or lack of technician issues? They are offering 1 Gig or 2.5 Gig. I want the 2.5 gig for the faster ethernet port then possibly downgrade to the 1 gig later.

    • @naturallyrootedgrowers
      @naturallyrootedgrowers  3 месяца назад +2

      I would say its just lack of man power to pull the fiber through the orange pipes. Its a booming job and there are so many different sub companies, sometimes in the same area. They get pulled around to different priority orders or repairs on screwups. The 2.5gig is truly wasted unless your gonna direct ethernet those devices and those devices need the capability of 2.5 or a 10gig port to even use it. What ever fiber they run to house will handle any future speeds over 2.5gigs. 500meg is usually all any regular streaming / gaming house would need. Most wifi struggles to get over 500mbit depending on the placement and obstacles between the router and device. Mesh wifi does work pretty well but I recommend running a ethernet between the mesh routers.

    • @jrcase7511
      @jrcase7511 3 месяца назад

      @@naturallyrootedgrowers I agree 2.5 is overkill but I want the ONT used for the 2.5 gig service as they have 10 gig Ethernet ports. If you order the 1 gig service, the ONT only has 1 gig Ethernet port which maxes out in mid 900 mbps. As for WiFi, I have a WiFi 7 router that will easily handle the 2.5 gig as it is currently doing 2 gig with Xfinity. The company is using XGpon so you would think they would only use ONT’s with the 10 gig Ethernet ports and have only one device across the board for future upgrades. 🥴

    I would expect such an installation in India or another country where the level of these works is low... how deep is it, 5cm? this is a very bad and bad joke. The minimum is 30 cm for sure. And a bare cable into the ground... well, the protection for it costs about 1 Euro per meter, that would be expensive... better for cheap, temperatures and humidity will eat it up much sooner. more than ever, this video should have an inscription: how not to do it! 🙃
