Nice video and explanation. Crews are in my neighborhood at the moment running the main conduits and I didn't want to stop them to ask questions.

the sad thing is they were suppose to start rolling it out in like 1998 and be done way faster than it’s taking them now maybe 10-15 years but they took the money the government gave them and pocketed it slow getting it around starting about late 2000s

Gateway Fiber is also boring those orange conduits in my neighborhood. They already have an underground box in my yard.

I remember a crew that was boring a line into a US Secret Service building, they bored through a sewer main and flooded the basement of the building.

Anyone know what the average time frame is between the time when the initial underground conduit is buried until the fiber is available to the customers? One month? Three months? Longer?

Talks about directional drilling and then the end it looks like a vibro cable plow has done it... :O If it was the drill, there would be no disturbance on the top

Many years ago, a cable company came in trenched the old fashioned way, ripped apart my irrigation system and made a mess of the grass. Really annoying. Where I live now, we have a monopoly cable company with little competition, some 5G wireless internet and a few brand new neighborhoods that have direct to the home fiber. My speeds are sufficient for my internet speeds and the service is pretty reliable but with regular overnight outages for "upgrades". That is past my bedtime so it matters little to me .

Wow there’s no safety measures In placed , no traffic controllers, no signs and barricades around work zones. Vehicles parked on the street are not also barricaded. Pedestrians safety not in place. The good thing was the utilities are located and potholed .

If you ever have to deal with AT&T for fiber line installs or if you have problems with how it was installed good look. They bury the fiber line maybe 2 inches in the ground if you're lucky and they are horrible about communicating to the customer when they will be coming to actually do the job. Then if you ever have a problem with it or need a new line installed their customer service is always someone who barely understands english. . You can never get ahold of anyone local because they use a third party company who is based 1000s of miles away.
I had an appointment set up through AT&T to have a new fiber line installed on Friday. Come Friday no one shows up. I was given a confirmation number and when I called them Friday they had no clue about my appointment and told me their system didn't have my confirmation number and then had to reschedule another week out. Just terrible customer service.

My yard, a corner lot, was basically destroyed by this process by AT&T installers. It will take 2 years for my grass to recover. And they could care less.

True story Robert I did not give a fuck when we wrecked your yard. you were a cunt the entire time anyway so fuck you.

They were probably installing an entire network, not just a drop to a house. For the last 5 years, my lawn has been cut up. Cathodic water devices, water line replacement, sewer lining, a gas line replaced, and now fibre optic cabling. In all cases, I got the lawn to recover by the end of spring. Grass seed, fertilizer, water.
The contractor that does the work has to do restoration. You still have to water it. If you have a restoration issue, call the city and they will make the company fix it. Too many complaints about the contractor and the company will not use them. You call AT&T who subs out the once in a lifetime installation for your neighborhood and they have no mechanism for dealing with that other than "reboot your device".

@Sebastian Wow. If you honestly believe that all of this destruction of PRIVATE property is actually necessary for us to have Internet, then you are about as clueless as a person can possibly be. We have ALL had Internet for a very long time now and the Internet speed for most people has been perfectly fine and they never had to dig up anybody’s yard, cut water lines and electrical lines in order to provide it. Not until NOW, that is. Have you ever stopped to ask WHY they are doing this? They’re coming into neighborhoods, doing a lot of destruction to install this cable and from everything I am hearing, people are not getting any answers when it’s time for somebody to pay for the repairs. So they come and they destroy and then they leave without fixing what they fucking destroyed. You sound like you are perfectly fine with all of this, so please do our country a favor and don’t vote.
