  • First of all, last month, March was the month this should've been posted. Because of a nasty flu and losing my voice, I couldn't finish it any sooner than now.
In this video I'll show you the range of colors that manganese pigments currently give us. With most focus on the well know Manganese Blue PB33, but also YInMn Blue PB86, Manganese Violet PV16, and a range of browns and blacks!
The Manganese pigment family as handmade watercolor paints. As you can see, most of them give some sort of granulating effect. From very heavy to quite subtile. Not all though. As with other pigment families, having a similar base component doens't make the pigment act the same with each variety.

Good morning from the US Laurens. 👋 Great spotlight on the Manganese family of paints. ⭐️ I'm sure these educational videos will inspire many artists to put their faith and trust in your ability to create magnificent paints for them. How are your custom orders coming along? I know I'm looking forward to testing out the large order I placed with you. 😁

I loved it when you playfully mixed everything together at the end. Did you happen to notice what that crazy mix did while you were doing the spectrometer? The dispersion of pigments, the wide variety of grays, the texture and granulation. That could be a painting! I'd like some of that, Laurens. Looks like a massive tropical storm here in Kona.

Wow, some truly beautiful pigments in this family. Now I see what all the hoopla was about with MB! I wasn't painting back then, but a lot of painters still bemoan the loss of that one. Thanks for this informative and wonderful video, Laurens. 🌻

Oh that opaque earth red is stunning! I checked the Kremer collection, but their version seems more like a burnt umber than red. I have to buy the Spinel black.

Great video, I actually love the manganese mud. I think it would be really fun to use as a single pan piece.

I remember when I first tried the Spinel Black from you. One of my most fave colours. In fact, I tend to like all these manganese colours.

I think Genuine Van Dyke Brown / Cassel Brown is NBr8 rather than PBr8

What????? Did he just say this pigment looks better in watercolor because it’s grainy????? lol
Sorry but nothing compares to the beauty of oil paint, this color PB33 looks much more beautiful in oil, obviously it’s the exact same color but with oil you get a much more full, opaque and simply beautiful look, if you want the full effect of this color then use it with oil. 😉
