The Comeback of Manganese Blue PB33

Since a version without music was requested, here's a clean edit! The lost cyan, PB33 aka Manganese Blue! An amazing color, beautifully granulating and so vibrant! A true cyan. This incredible pigment has been discontinued since the late 80’s and although discovered in 1907, it was only around for a mere 80 years as an artists pigment in paint (a large reserve of this pigment has been used afte...

My question. I had a shure MV7 microphone, but I was annoyed that when it was connected via USB to the omputer it had a weak gain. I had to plug it into an audio interface to get it to start sounding good. My question is. Does a usb podmic usb connected to a computer via USB have more gain? Does it have a better preamp and gain in it? Does it have good listening on headphones? Is it not too quiet?
Although I don’t have a Shure to compare it with, I have do dial the gain down in Rode Connect for it not to clip during my live streams. The direct monitoring via headphones works great and there’s a volume button for that on the mic that I never had to dial all the way up, not even half I think.. hope that answers your questions!
@@dirtyblueshop That is, it works well with this myricophone with the Rode Connect or Rode Central app, I don't know what you are using at the moment, but I mean an app in which you can improve the tone of your voice or adjust it to your needs. There is no lag if you use it? Second question, do you have a comparison with the Yeti X?
@mojkanayt7758 no comparison at all, but I can tell you it has no lag and the software is great! You can use it with all their apps and even on your phone as a usb mic (and change settings too with their mobile app). I’m suing Rode Connect on my MacBook, and two other mics of theirs. I can use them all at once without any reverb, if you would ever need that.
@@dirtyblueshop I had a Shure MV7 and it was quiet, as if the preamp it has in it was of average quality. It was just quiet, I had to connect it to an audio intrface to make it sound satisfactory. That's why I'm asking you what you think of this “podmic” microphone, because I had a bad experience with the Shure MV7
The German pharmaceutical company Merck sold mummy powder under the latin name Mummia vera (real mummy) until the 1920s. For use in humans
Thank you! I’ve seen the name before but I just looked them up, didn’t know they had such a history with the material!
My heart soared when I saw the final swatch! It looks almost golden <3 I love it. Is it from Kremer? I would love to buy this pigment. I go through a lot of earth yellows and browns, this looks like a perfect Christmas gift from me to me.
Happy to see you like it! This one is actually one of the Umbers from ColorRare!
Natural earth pigments have a subtlety and nuance that is totally absent in all synthetic pigments
Absolutely!
PB16 is evidently a one of those pigments that needs a lot of careful work to incorporate, interesting to watch.
well you could be less careful, but then a larger part of your space will also end up in this color... :D
Had to be away yesterday so I'm playing catch up today, thank you for this Laurens.
I appreciate it!
I can't seem to catch a break lately. I had time for this video, or the next one... and then I didn't. And now I think my teeth are dissolving. Don't move to Florida, or stay away from me as it may be contagious.
😂love the chaos in your messages… I do wonder what’s going on?? 🧐
@@dirtyblueshop Well, it seems that my teeth are falling apart. One week a piece falls off, the next week another falls off on a different tooth. And now a third tooth is getting in on the action.

Im locked and loaded for this one
A side note. On the video info, you wrote "For my paints, that have all the pigment info, check ..." and a link. First, the link gets blocked so it'd be nice if you could post the Etsy address directly instead. And second (and most important), because you set the Etsy shop as "on hold" since 17-april-2024, we can't "check" anything you sell as it does NOT show any products from you.
Know what’s even better than a “sexy close-up” without talking? *ACTUAL CONTENT!!* Based on the title, I thought you might tell me something about… oh… I don’t know… *manganese blue?!?* (which you spelled wrong BTW).
Since a video like this was requested, I put the information in the caption. Thanks for pointing out the typo!
How is this a return of pigment blue 33? And by the way I used it quite a bit when I first started painting. It is a very beautiful blue, but it is very well replaced by modern pigments. And understand that I am not at all easily satisfied by replacements.
It really depends on the medium in my experience. In watercolors, the granulation with the vibrancy of the cyan like blue, is unique.
@dirtyblueshop I cannot argue with that. My main uses of it back in the day was with oil paints and acrylics. I have heard that one of the phthalo blue replacements for that particular shade of manganese blue is capable of granulation, but I cannot vouch for that right now and you probably know about it anyway. For myself personally, this is just personal taste, usually when I want granulation I want it in deeper colors. I'm glad you were able to get a pigment specimen of that blue. 👍
To answer why I used the ''dramatic comeback'' reference with this pigment, I have found quite a bit of it to be able to put it in my regular line of paint.
@dirtyblueshop that sounds fabulous! 🙂
Thank you for educational information. I swatched recently pr264 and it gathered as you sad and those ramifications also appeared.
My pleasure!
Beautiful blue. Was so relaxing to watch.
Thanks Dan 🙏
I do feel it made quite a comeback.. I remember seeing only one or two selling on Etsy offering it (but it was often sold out quick) a year or two, now I feel like it's almost common (well at least for a discontinued pigment level). I wonder where everyone acquire their pigment but it is good that it's not gone for good! I think it would be interesting to compare different PB33 and see if there is different behavior depending on binder.. I'd also buy yours for my collection :^) P.S. also love that you didn't put a music with this one, I find the natural sound quite relaxing and I appreciate the process as it!
I think everyone gets it from Cornelissen, it's where I got mine, they haven't stopped selling it in years
Not me, I contacted them a few years back and they didn’t want to ship overseas back then… maybe they have the same supplier as the one I found 😅
Amazing video I enjoyed it ❤, hope will be able to purchase some of your paints soon(not these historical ones 😂) .
Hopefully soon my show will reopen! 🙏
Oooo! That was a gorgeous draw down!
🩵
Stunning!
🙏
Such a beautiful colour ❤
Seeing this glorious pigment being mulled is so bittersweet... it was a staple on my palette in the 80s and I still have half a tube left but don't have the heart to use it.... as you say, it's unmatched.
Well if you work in watercolors, I can assure you that I have enough of the pigment to last a while 🤗
Mesmerising! Recently acquired a tube of manganese blue. Didnt realise it was granulating...will look when I use it
Did you get it from old stock of manufacturer or is it handmade by small bussiness? I usually see it being sold as pans
@olddays-tw9xe It was from Daniel Smith... I saw it being used by David Poxon and loved it in his painting.
@@lizleiart Is that the original PB33? I believe DS is now selling a hue, so it must be a lucky find! Would be interesting to swatch and compare it
Wow!!! I like it! :)
Thank you!
I dont remember if I have this pigment or not... Thanks for making me want more stuff
Always a pleasure! 😅
hi, may i ask what oil did you use in the video? thank you
It’s a watercolor binder actually, a gum Arabic solution
Amazing video as always, but would it be possible to release a version without music some point down the line? The sounds of paint mixing are *incredibly* satisfying
Absolutely! 💪🩵
And thank you 🤗
Posted this with a clean edit too now ;)
45:39 Maybe it was this video I was watching when I lost my internet. RUclips allowed me to continue where I left off. I guess you put up another video.
14:54 Rotator Cuff?
Yup, not sure what's the issue though...
10
Wait a minute... did everyone lose an internet connection? Damn, I'm so egocentric. Sorry about that. Hey, that's a nice blue. I'll have to look it up, this PB 10.
Haha well I know it was weird on my side at least
Supervision Conventional Watercolor... Lake Blue Source? I don't think that's very "conventional" at all.
😅
1:30:00 And it was at about this point where I lost internet connection. Just on the other side of this wall, the workman were laying down sod and figured it would be easier to use the stump grinder at a low depth setting to remove the what was left of the old grass.
Sorry, I was wrong. It was an earlier video I was watching when I lost internet. Oh... BP 35, the one I was watching you were doing BP 33.
Well, anyways, something has happened and I've given up on trying to track it down. Every time I scroll through I end up watching some ads.
@FatFilbert-lv4ki oh the ads are getting terrible 😣
@@dirtyblueshop RUclips is really confusing me because your last three videos all say "Streamed 3 days ago" Were you on for about 6 hours?
I ❤ PBr33
Yay my pigment 🎉😂❤
🤎
I heard you make fabulous granulating paint! I found you on instagram and now here❤
Yeeh! Thanks for being here too! 💙
Yes they are very good watercolors.
What the name of the colour plz tell me 😅😅....,,,, that's the prettiest pink i have ever seen in my life 😊😊❤
It’s Potters Pink 😊
I have the special edition version of this from schmincke. Such a beautifully colour
I have a video where I compare my version with their version!
@dirtyblueshop I have seen it in the past
Probably one of the most punchy reds
Absolutely!
This song made me cry
Omg that looks so fun 😂 I actually really like the hue result lol! What is the light green pigment?
That’s a pre mixed pigment I don’t really use for my paints 😅
Thank you for the super informative stream and the helpful swatch session! Really appreciated ❤ Making my ultramarine test was super exciting(although I only used a tiny bit with a knife and possibly not enough pigment to binder amount)! I will defintely keep the colors you showed in my future basket :^) Also do you think it might be possible to do a purchase of some pigments from you? I'd be happy to support you while getting some pigments I can't find (nothing Maw Sit Sit level! Haha)
It’s my absolute pleasure! About the pigments, it really depends on which pigments, some I just have a tiny bit of for my collection, others won’t be sold because of ethical reasons… but some won’t be a problem at all 😅
@dirtyblueshop Oh no worries I'm not one of the asking-for-Emerald-green-or-Mummy-brown trolls lol. Also not super rare ones that cost little fortune hehe. There is something exciting about having the colors you like in jars (you know better than us!) so I am playing with the idea of getting my favorites even in small amount for a collection sake :) I do like PR259... LOL
Btw do you have PBr33 and PR175? I couldnt find them on Kremer but pretty sure they latter at least used to be in their line. I know PBr33 should have some nice granulation going for it so I thought it would be a fun one for color seperation. I think only Schmincke sells it as paint
@olddays-tw9xe things like that, there’s enough of! 😅
I do too! 😅 and yes to both, and Kremer used to have it indeed 🧐
Beautiful color. I love Buff Titanium, especially when mixed with other colors. It gives them all a dreamy, soft look.
It really does! Way more natural than just adding regular titanium white
Buff titanium is such a relaxing colour. 🤩
