I would use PV16 for botanicals and shadows. Regarding mixes, I think you should use more PV16 so as to make it more pronounced in mixes. It is a weak pigment.
Using more PV16 in mixes is definitely the way to go. Schmincke uses quite a bit in their super granulating paints which is why Galaxy Pink is so vibrant and saturated. Skimping on PV16 just gives boring and muted results. It's also a beautiful color to use when charging into wet washes and mixing right on the paper.
PV16 is one of my favorite granulating colors. I have a small collection of these and enjoy Turner's and W&N very much. I'm making my own paint with Sennelier pigment, and it's another beautiful hue. That Rembrandt has a very high tinting strength. 😮 Thank you for showing a wide variety of brands because it helps users so much in making a better purchasing decision. Please hug your fur babies for me ❤ I hope your son is still visiting. 😊 Take care.
Thank you Tracy for your kind message! I agree with you, PV16 it’s such a lovely color! My son left yesterday, so I’m back to editing videos…it was a lovely week thanks for asking. My fur babies enjoyed his company so much!! ❤️ can you believe I have never tried Turner paint? What is it like? Thanks! ❤️
@Watercolor & Co with Elisabetta Ahhhh. I'm so sorry to hear he has left, but I know you had a great time regardless of him not staying longer. ❤️ I have about 8 Turner paint tubes and all of them have behaved very well. They are definitely in the Pro range and offer some color variations and mixtures you can't find elsewhere. You can't beat the price at Jackson's for purchasing within the Western countries. There may be better prices in the East. I would highly recommend the Purple Gromwell. I think you would like it very much.
@awatercolourist 👋 My paintmaking and painting have been put on hold for several weeks. We have my MIL staying with us and recovering from multiple issues. It's been a joy to have her with us, so I don't mind being behind with my hobbies. 😍 I'm quite a bit behind on social media, but I will drop in when I can to say hello. 😊
Thank you for your video. I also love this color, the Schminke and Rembrandt versions are great. I have the Roman Szmal one, quite similar to them. So is the Gallo Violetto minerale, lovely too. And finally, there is Red violet, from Sennelier, a beautiful color, with a nice separation, even if it is a single pigmented color. This late color is my favorite.
Hey! This is a colour I never use but... these mixes are fantastic! You recreated some supergranulating colours from Schmincke. Actually, the mix with PO 73 looks similar to Galaxy Brown, and the mix with PY 83 looks like Desert Yellow... Your try for Galaxy Pink is awesome anyway, to get the same hue it's difficult, that's the reason why it's a convenient mix ;) Thanks for the rest of ideas you gave me, as always. The one with PG 7 is lovely! It's true that it's a strange colour to mix but it works!
Hi Estivaliz, thanks for contacting me via Instagram. I will contact you properly very soon. I’m unwell and currently attending hospital 3 times a week, and am wiped out! We will put our heads together and get some great swaps sorted out. Best wishes ❤️
I need to use mine. I’ve got the Schmincke one and maybe Roman Szmal, too. I have mahogany brown, too, so I need to see if I can recreate Galaxy Pink. It’s a beautiful pigment, thanks for the comparison 💜
Hi Elisabetta! Boy I like your color mixes with these colors, very well done! And thank you for including Galaxy Pink, what a gorgeous color. It almost looks like a dupe for Potter’s Pink!
Your mixes are pretty. I like the PV16 and Phthalo blue the most. I went through a granulating watercolor phase last year so I bought a tube of Schminke PV16, Schmincke PBr33 and some other Schmincke super granulation watercolors, and some Daniel Smith granulating watercolors to make my own granulating mixes. Well my DIY granulating mixing phase fizzled out 😆. I enjoy the colors I own and I love PV16 but I rarely use it or any of them. I use good old staple ultramarine blue the most! It’s weird I started out not liking ultramarine blue but now I can’t live without it! ❤
UM is a great mixing color! It’s always one of the first colors to finish in my palette together with Burnt Sienna and Yellow Ochre!! I don’t like it in sky though. But in shadows is wonderful!
I recently bought a tube of the Winsor & Newton Permanent Mauve on the recommendation of Jean Lursson, another watercolor artist on RUclips. I thought PV16 was a new pigment for me, until I was swatching some Turner watercolors I hadn't used in a while and found one that looked exactly like it. Turned out to be PV16 after all, which they call Manganese Violet. I actually liked it better than the W&N, it seemed more pigmented, less binder maybe? Anyways, it was $8 vs W&N's $13. Thanks for the videos, I enjoy them very much!
Dear Katherine hi! I'm very happy about your message, because I just bought a handful of Turner tubes on Jackson's (they're currently on sale). I have never tried them! I need to set up a new studio palette with all my new favourite colors....I find Manganese Violet delightful but I'm not using it much because it's not in my palette! Thanks a lot for stopping by and for your very kind words :)
Hi Elisabetta, glad to hear you had a wonderful week with your son! I imagine the time flew by though… Wonderful video as usual. Such a variety between each version, it surprised me a little. My favourite was the W&N too - such a pretty and relatively intense hue. I have only used this pigment in botanicals, so found your mixes very interesting. I am quite guilty of not experimenting overly much, but then again, I can watch your channel for all the tips I need. I look forward to the next video. Take care my friend 😊🖌🎨👩🎨❤️
Hello dear Anita! I think you are a fine artist but maybe shy? I’m sure you are a great watercolour artist. I wish you a lovely Sunday with you adorable cat. Thanks a lot for your very kind words! My son left yesterday so now I hold on to my pups ❤️. Take care my friend! ❤️❤️❤️
I heard that someone encountered Schmincke's pv16 color change from nice red violet to a shabby brown. I can't figure out the reason since pv16 is very lightfast itself, maybe the pigment have some chemical reaction with the binder just as the pb29 or pv14 bleaches with acid.
One of my favorite colors a must have on my pallet schmincke uses it in their super granulating range.
It’s so underrated!! I’m glad I’m not the only fan!

@@Dinky_Bunny yes, I should have used more paint…it’s learning by doing! Thank you 😊
