Typically we start these descriptions with the location, the car, and the driver, but Heidi Hetzer and her 1930 Hudson Great Eight don’t fit the mold, seeing as the 77-year-old took her rather ancient automobile on a journey around the world. Inspired by Clärenore Stinnes, the first to accomplish such a feat, Heidi battled cancer, nearly lost a few fingers, and defied the odds during the course of her monumental road trip. Possessing a spirit found in few, her love of driving is positively boundless, and so is her cheery outlook on life and the people you meet along the way.

Her Smile when she tells that her car now goes 100 is just adorable.
Well you really got to think cars back then yes they had big motors but not a hole lot of giddy up and go power but where like tanks
If somebody doesn't turn this into a screenplay and a feature film I would be shocked. What a story! And Petrolicious should be hired as the cinematography directors. Simply excellent!
Heidi Hetzer is now one of my handful of heroes.
I am blown away with the moxie of Heidi and other heroes I have.
These heroes I have;.......... they just go & do it.
The Sporting Professor There’s a TV documentary series about her world trip. Here’s the Link: www.ndr.de/fernsehen/epg/import/Heidi-Hetzers-wilde-Weltreise,sendung362956.html
Helen Mirren or Vanessa Redgrave.
I personally saw this car and lend a hand with some repairs down in zimbabwe
I would be honored to repair her car any time.. free of charge.
I'll watch an entire year of Petrolicious about self-indulgent rich folks just for the promise of one beautiful story like this!
...typing on his $800 smart phone.
On point! :)
Those self-indulgent rich folks were gracious enough to give up their time and allow their vehicles to be filmed so you'd have something to watch at all - you could have just complimented the lady, her vehicle, and her story without being snide.
This is the best way to honor an old car; to hell with showroom restorations, museums and concours, slap new parts on it and just drive, drive, drive. And Heidi is for real my hero. She should write a book about her journey or at least a coffee table book with captioned pictures from the trip.
I almost cried, best yet
I cried, no shame at all.
#MeToo
Uzair Khokhar hahahahahahaa!!!
me too
Me too
What am I doing with my life? This lady is living it to the fullest. Take notes everybody. Life isn't always about the destination, but rather the journey. Top work Petrolicious!
Also take note of the fact that she did this in her 70's! Try live life to its fullest as soon as you can, but also remember its never to late to start!
Be an Uber driver - all they do is drive all day.
"So, quite poorly prepared, I simply set off. You never know what's going to happen, how it will really work."
That's the basis for any good (global) road trip.
A vision, a car and the courage to make it happen. That's the basis for any great car story. Exactly what Petrolicious does best.
That's the beginning of every great story.
You left out, money, money, money, money. That's prerequisite number 1.
She has such a good spirit. Gotta go with the flow and not the woe.
T M At least she know ( or experienced) how to put her money to a good use.
T M And that's a bad attitude to a good global trip!
That was way too short! I want to watch more and listen to this wonderful woman share the whole story!
Kevin Rowley you understand what she’s saying?
I do. She just luuuuv to drive the Hudson.
What lovely, amazing, inspiring woman. She reminds me of my 76 years - young mum.. Last year I did a little 6500km trip with her in my 1990 Mitsubishi van, from Melbourne Victoria, to Broome Western Australia. Across the continent with no aircon (it gets hot out there in the desert) and not one complaint! Just the joy of travelling across Australia.
As a former Hudson collector, I loved watching this video. Yes, they were truly great cars that are all but forgotten now. And she is an amazing lady. God bless her spirit.
The most genuine smile was glued to my face throughout dieser ganze film about Heidi -Lady -Hero, the carrier of wonderful Human Spirit. God speed Heidi ! .....and thank you Petrolicious for another gem. RD
“I just wanted to drive. Drive, drive, drive.”
One of your best videos yet, thanks Petrolicious, and thank you Heidi for sharing.
Another BEAUTIFUL automotive tale from Petrolicious.
Thank you.
I'll never understand people who can down vote videos like this. I cannot fathom what reason there is to down vote! This is probably my favourite video yet. No supercar story, no riches. Just simple driving and enjoying the whole experience. How I'd love to do this!
Didn't understand but two words, but I understood her passion for that car and traveling to everywhere she could go. Godspeed Hudson Lady!
Petrolicious team, Please do an extended version of her interview. The edit make it look like she gave you alot of amazing stories. I would happily watch a documentary length film of this, 7 minutes is not enough!
The off-sounding audio was probably not from the interview. Sounded more like something she recorded previously. Further above there's a link to a documentary: www.ndr.de/fernsehen/epg/import/Heidi-Hetzers-wilde-Weltreise,sendung362956.html
"Now it even goes 100!" Pure joy!
Rest in peace Heidi. You are an inspiration to many of us. I hope you are "driving, driving, driving" wherever you are.
That car and lady are the real deal, one of the coolest people Petrolicious ever covered.
I cried when this lady was driving this incredible car
How absolutely wonderful!! This is The greatest Petrolicious story, bar none. Bravo Heidi!!!
Histoire magnifique, femme magnifique ,automobile magnifique ,un grand BRAVO Petrolicious ,one of your best film
Rest well Ms. Hetzer, and Godspeed.
I enjoy every Petrolicous video, but every once and a while there is a gem like this that really gets me. There are hundreds of channels on youtube that will show you an old car, but there are very few that will tell you a story quite like Petrolicous does. Yet another great one guys, downright inspiring, keep it up!
Such a beautiful and inspiring story. Goosebumps the entire time. Much better than all the rich folks with 20 other cars that never actually see the road.
Wonderful woman, car and story! Thank you.
Great Story, I remember that she got stuck at the Canadian/US border in Emerson due to a blown head gasket if I recall correctly. Her story was then picked up by local TV and press, I was as amazed back then as I am now.
Coolest Grandma ever. What an awesome lady.
R.I.P. Heidi Hetzer :-(
Heidi Hetzer, super interessante Persönlichkeit. 👍
never thought that at 51 I'd Ever have any new Hero's ...She is Wonderful , brought tear's to my eye's .
The indefatigable and indomitable Heidi. Mein Gott!
Fahr Weiter Frau Heidi! Was fur ein Geist!
Another timeless classic from Petrolicious
Worth every penny of your time.
Her journey has come to an end. R. I. P.
She is CRAZY! I love her!
"I do not live anymore, but I lived."
H. Hetzer 04/2019
My god what an amazing woman she has so much love of life and determination to live it she is beautiful ! and thank you petrolicious for your wonderful production ! ..this is one of your best stories to date ...Fantastic !!!!
Ich durfte die verehrte Dame auf ihrer damaligen Weltreise kennenlernen. Sie fragte mich nach dem Weg. Das Automobil ist ein Traumwagen, ein echtes Highlight. Good luck.
I feel like this was just an intro to an adventure movie. I want more!
X2!!!!!!
wow I just went to Classic Remise in Berlin yesterday and saw this car in person. So cool to hear her story in detail now. Such an amazing trip
I was there last week, wish I had seen this video before my trip, would've really made me appreciate it more.
So eine einzigartige Frau, faszinierend was sie geleistet hat.
Such a unique women, fascinating what she did achieve.
I've always loved the big cars of the early to mid 30s,the coachwork is a stunning work of art.
What a beautiful story. Not understanding a word of German. Captions set to off. Listening only to her enthusiasm while telling the story of her journey with this beautiful classic car. Thank you for her, ...and this!
Words can’t describe how cool she is!
All kudos in the world to Heidi!
"Hudo be a good boy." Many will say that is crazy but, there comes a point when you really get connected to a car, especially an old one that has issues, and is unpredictable. It will puts a smile on your face today then make you cry tomorrow. I've been there. Talking to those cars will determine if you get towed home or get there under your own power. I can't explain it.
I talk to my truck all the time. "No surprises, Wiley..."
You notice a certain behaviour repeatedly and it becomes character. And what has character also has soul and could be considered "alive".
Overwhelmed!
Brilliant short film. Thank you.
What a beautiful and heartwarming story. It never fails to amaze me what people are capable of if just willing to try something. It’s hard not to admire Heidi Hetzer; who decides at 77 to take a road trip in an over 80 year old car all the way around the world? Apparently Heidi. Prost, Heidi; I will drink to you tonight!
Love her petro attitude
Very nice Lady, she is living the life to the fullest. I love to drive too, I find my self driving, congratulations Petrolicious this is one of the the best stories.
Petrolicious you did it again...pure art!
Though I don't speak her language, it was awesome to see her handling that old Hudson like a pro. This lady makes it very evident that whatever language you speak, there's a big difference between being alive, and actually living!
If you're interested in what she's saying about her incredible journey, the caption is really on point.
I always like the videos about some kid who worked hard, made it big and bought their dream car. It's simple and relatable to a point. But this, this is truly magnificent. Words can't truly encapsulate the marvel of a spirit this woman has. Trying to summarize this woman's story will only ever manage to scratch at what is really there. This woman, with her Hudo, is the most inspiring story I've ever been so lucky to hear. From now on, if you ask me my favorite story, it's about a brave German woman, and her Hudson.
Wow. Her story just grabs your heart and makes you think about your own life. I love stories like this. I could watch it over and over again and never get bored.
There are not words to describe my admiration of and adoration for Heidi Hetzer. Her adventuresome spirit. Her love of driving. All of it. She's magnificent.
She died April 21st 2019.
R.I.P. Heidi Hetzer
Videos like this prove that there is still hope for humanity.
The best video on RUclips so far.. Story and camera. Piece of art.
Quite simply amazing.
Life! What an amazing trip, a lesson to us all. Life does not wait, you have to grab it...thank you and God bless.
Simply fantastic!
Adventurous woman with a wonderfull car. I like it.
What a good story!
I just want to have a beer with this woman. Awesome story!
Beautiful story
What a story. What a car! What an amazing person!
Awesome lady, hats off!
inspring I hope in my old age I am still just as passionate enjoying cars and going on adventures!
...Before the 40 second mark, before she even said a thing, just the storytelling through the visuals alone already had me smiling and "Dear lord, what have you gotten yourself into now?"
Die Emotionen die Petrolicious immer in die Videos packt, begeistern mich immer wieder....
Such an inspiration
Watching her saying she still love driving, bring me tears. What a woman beautiful video as always
Somebody please hand Petrolicious a Bafta, Grammy, Emmy or whatever already!
I've seen the car live in Berlin auto museum! Such a beautiful automobile!
Got emotional in the last quarter of the video.
What an epic life story, would love to ride along
This was the best documentary you ever made!
Amazing... I want to get into my 82 MB240d and drive around the world now!!!!!
Fantastic! What a dream!
This really needs to be longer than eight minutes. I'd watch a whole hour of this.
Wonderful woman, wonderful film, wonderful car.
So ein schones gedicht in bewegung.
simply fantastic
Life is sure full of extremes: you can read the news about young newlyweds getting killed on their honeymoon in an exotic destination, or watch the story of a German lady safely globetrotting around the world in an antique car.
Amazing story, amazing video.
How does Petrolicious find such amazing people and stories to film?! This is my favorite video on this channel
Very poetic one loved it.
I love this woman. I want her courage. Heidi, you are AMAZING!!! 💗
Wow!!! I would love to hear more about this woman and her amazing trip!!!
Quite the lady, quite the car too.
This is gold guys. One of your best.
Every successive video on this channel is the best RUclips video I've ever seen.
Could not understand hardly any of the word's but the look at the lady's face told me the story of true love and appreciation of the car top class video 😁👍🍀
Wonderful film and a wonderful person!
What a amazing history, congratulations Heidi Hetzer!!!
This is what a role model looks like. Good stuff, Petro.
You have all of my love i hope to see you drive through my country greetings from Greece.
