    Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe & meal. This is a new way for me to use leftover ham! Generally, I make a scalloped potato dish with leftover ham and then pea or bean soup with the bone. Also, I absolutely love that there is a use for the ham essence. I would save some for soups and stews but this is also new to me. Thank you again for sharing your love of cooking with us .

    I made a ham last week that I wanted to use some ham for a dish. it was a smoked ham also. I didn't have any ham essence or beef stock, but I did have a large can of chicken broth. I cut up some onion (about a half of a cup and put it in with the butter and the chicken broth. Then I added my rice and a cup of water so the rice would get done. It sure does smell good. I hope it tastes as good as it smells.

    I’ve never seen this ham and rice dish before. Have to make it sometime. Also need to make some squash like this. Never thought of breading it. But it looks good. When I make squash it’s usually sliced and cooked with onions in a little oil and salt and pepper and browned in a frying pan. I usually save my ham bones to make a pot of pinto beans. Yummy with cornbread.

    What is ham essences?

  • @stef1lee
    @stef1lee 5 месяцев назад

    Meme- Better Than Boullion makes a Ham base that is pretty close to the essence you have. It doesn't gel but the taste is right on the money. I use it in my pintos and butter beans or great white northern beans. But it's some kinda good. If you can find that and at times it's a bit hard to find, it's also a great substitute for the real deal. Barrington Farms also makes a powdered ham base. It's not as good but works well for a great ham flavor.
