In this episode I try the cheapest big brake upgrade you can get for your e36, they’re even bigger than the m3 brakes. I got e46 330i front brakes on eBay, and slapped them on my turbo LS e36

Thank you for making this video. Very clear, good quality, and just what I've been searching for to know what to look for at the junk yard & fb marketplace. Definitely keeping up with your channel & subscribing. Also nice wheels!
Thanks! I love these. They’re my fav e36 wheels
Thank you for making this great video, very helpful! Love your channel my friend
Thanks! I’m glad you found it helpful!
Good work. Thanks for the video with a clear explanation.
No problem!
Great mod!!! I did the swap on an E46 318 to the 330 brake set. I also had to do the rears as with only the fronts it had way too much brake power on the front and was not better with braking then the original setup. After swapping the rear brakes, that made a ton of difference!!!
Awesome! I’ve since put e36 m3 brakes on the back so it’s pretty balanced
Does the rear bolt up directly too?
Freaking awesome bro can’t wait to bolt this up
Thanks! It’s def a cheap and easy upgrade!
Solid and affordable upgrade.
Yea def a great bang for the buck!
Thinking about trying this on my e36/7 Z3 M roadster. Getting upgraded rotor and pads that might be better then my carbon pads and rotor setup. I have been told Z3 e36/7 parts fit e36’s like the steering is faster ratio on the Z’s but the e36 with e46 parts like that. I do have the same S54 as the e46 M3... okay when I need breaks I’m doing this. Great hack
Yea they should bolt right on. Much bigger so dissipates heat better, more clamping force too. Some good pads and fluid and it’ll dead stop.
Thanks 💯
I try my best!
I'm jealous I never had rotors come off that clean
I put anti-seize on them when I replace the hub so maybe that helped
Awesome video! Thank you for that. I'm looking to do a brake upgrade on my e36 m3 on a budget and this looks like the perfect solution.
I'm running rear Z3 m roadster wheels on all four corners. They fit fine with the stock m3 calipers and I'm wondering if they will fit with this upgrade.
Also...can you do this upgrade in the rear as well?
You cannot do this upgrade to the rear you have to get M3 rear trailing arms and brakes and everything and it would be an M3 brake setup, which I did.
Can the stock e36 caliper bracket be used with the 330 caliper would I need to swap that as well?
No, it’s too small. You need the bigger bracket.
Wow. Im doing this on my 1uzfe e36
Nice! It’s a cheap and easy upgrade
I have a question so I’m
Doing the same thing. I’m planning to upgrade the lines so do I need e46 brake lines or e36 brake lines ?
E36 lines will work fine. You’ll def want at least 17 inch wheels.
So you need the 330i caliper brackets and rotors brake lines the same ?
Yeah it all fits
hi bro would this fit with arc 8 wheel or i will need to get spacers
Should fit as long as they’re 17 or bigger
Is there such thing as slimmer rotors for wider wheels
Not that I’m aware of
Will this set up fit inside a OEM BMW 16" wheel?
You need a 17 or bigger I’d guess.
Why you didn´t fit e46 330i brakes on the rear ?
I upgraded the rear end to e36 m3 to fit the 210mm diff. That was in a different episode.
Rad!
Thanks! Definitely a great swap
Will this conversation also work on a E36 320i touring ?
I think so, I’d make sure they have the same master cylinder. But other than that they bolt on
Yeah, but it's recommended to get an m3 master (or an e34 one, same bore diameter, cheaper and easier to find. But you gotta shorten a rod and adapt some threads) otherwise the pedal could be very stiff.
What about your rear brake set up
I did the 210mm rear Diff upgrade, so it has e36 m3 rear brakes.
I did my swap with the rotors and the 330i brake caliper. The brake are spongy. I bleed the brake 3 times and they are still spongy. Need help
Double check the order of the bleed, also, the type of pads can play a role in the feel.
@@LowBoostFilms the brake pads has a lot of meat left on it, when I went to the junkyard years to get the brake caliper. The brake were still brand new and also the rotors too. But I still don’t understand why the brake pedal feel so spongy.
The type of pads can make a difference not just the thickness. I’d def double check the order of bleeding them and try again as well.
You need to upgrade to e36 m3 brake master cylinder. If you do this brake caliper upgrade but didnt also upgrade the cylinder then it wont feel the same.@@EkkoGG
Did you have to change the brake line to e46?
I didn’t have to.
You can swap it like plug and play ?
Yes, direct swap!
Are the rotors from the same car as the calipers ??!!
Yes. All E46 330i
You need to change the break pump too? Or it's the stock one from the factory?
Kept the stock booster, it’s been great.
@@LowBoostFilms because one friend told me that i have to replace it with a m3 e36 one or e34 in order to have the breaking power...the disc breaks are bigger, maybe that's the reason
I’ve tested it HARD and stopping from high speeds, it works fine. The M3 brakes are bigger too and use the same booster.
Booster is fine as stated but if you mean the master cylinder, yeah upgrading to an m3 one will make the pedal easier to manage as keeping the old non m master with the bigger brakes makes the pedal stiff.
The e34 master cylinder is the same bore diameter as the m3 e36 one and is cheaper. Some modifications can be need when it comes to rod length or threads.
Need Help!!! I bought 17in style 66s drom an e39. Can anyone help me verify that this brake upgrade will will with my wheels? It would be a night mare to order the parts just to find out the brake kit is too large for my wheel. Thank you!!🙏🙏🙏🙏
Ok here’s what you do. Find a friend with an e46 330i and see if your wheel fits his car in the front. If it does it’ll work!
@@LowBoostFilms Thanks!! Thats Genius👍 Great advice. I will try to find someone at a car club with a 330i👍😁
No problem, that’s how I checked to see if my wheels would fit as well!
What size rotor is that?
Idk, they’re off of an e46 330i
Do you know if the e46 M3 calipers/rotors fit on the bmw e36 M3 96+ knuckles?
I don’t know, they are bigger than the 330i ones. These will do so much more than you’ll need for much less than the m3 brakes anyway
@@LowBoostFilms I'm asking you because I have the parts and if it's possible use in my e30 BBK.
Actually stock e36m3 brakes are only 325mm and the 330i brakes are 330mm trip right
Edit: Just noticed a few mistakes, in my first comment that I made half asleep. Sizes for anyone interested.
e36 m3 front rotor is 315mm.
e46m3 front rotor 325mm & rear 328mm
E46 330i front rotor 325mm
E46m3 csl/competition 345mm front
How big is that disc?
I forget the size but easily an inch bigger than the stock ones
Significantly
It’s a great upgrade
Great content bud, too bad we ain’t neighbors, would be bitchin !
Thanks!!! Yea they hate me as it is lmao
@@LowBoostFilms you make me wanna make some content, I have a e36, a 52 Ford restomod 4x4, a big old obs 7.3 , and a 65c10 big block.. we’d have some fun oh and the tundra for some normalcy
@@md612mx go for it! I’ll be honest it’s not easy. I shoot, edit, and post one video a week. It’s a part time job lol.
I see you like cars.
joee juan yea just a little lol.
Does it work for the rear too?
I can’t confirm that it does. Don’t lose sleep over the rears though, the front does most of the work.
Oh, just wondering if it would work with a dual caliper setup.
E46 rear caliper will mount on the the non-m E36 rear trailing arm. The brake disc will work, however you will lose the parking/emergency brake function, due to a big difference in diameter.
It definitely works. I have an E36 and mounted E46 330d calipers and disks (identical as the E46 330i ones) The rear dust protection plate needs to be modified to accommodate the bigger brake discs, be aware that the handbrake calipers have to be modified to match the bigger inner diameter and also the mounting points on the hub. If you are using hydraulic handbrake instead of the stock one I assume it will be even easier, you just gonna need dual caliper adapter plates.
Noice.
Thanks!
@@LowBoostFilms why not do the rear also? vented and larger
I am replacing the entire rear end with an M3 rear end to handle the power from the bigger differential I am putting in. So there will be M3 brakes on there
286 mm vs 325 mm to bring in some numbers.
22 mm thick vs 25 mm
Caliper: from 54 mm to 57mm
I don't know why one puts out a video like that w/o mentioning.
I agree, I regret not having the actual numbers in there. One of many things I slap myself for when I re watch my videos lol

I know in the US no-one cares about function - but in Germany/ EU EVERYTHING has to be certified. These versions are!
Most BMW parts.
So stock e36 m3 brakes are still better
@@doodooman97 Better than WHAT?
e36M3 are 316mm diameter and afaik 57mm caliper.
Brakes are mainly physics: the more material the better heat can be transfered. Plus the coefficient of the pads.
These brakes are TINY to todays standards!
I own a Z3 3.0, that has 300mmx22 54mm caliper. Here in Germany I drive 20km w/o speed limit every day.
When I go down from 200km/h to 100km/h I do not trust these brakes!!! which are new.
And the car goes 254km/h via GPS, which I do not drive anymore, today.
